The Edifier S1000DB is actually a pair of active speakers designed to give you that big hi-fi feel with features that are more suited to the 20-teens. i.e. simplicity and Bluetooth. The subwoofer and all the satellites are encased in 100% medium-density fiberboard (MDF). The solid construction gives C6XD an elegant look that also comes with enhanced acoustic performance. I was pretty impressed with the quality of sound on offer here, given their roughly AU$370 price point. There’s minimal distortion at high volume, even when you’ve cranked that bass knob as far as it will go. The high range remains crystal clear while the lows are pleasantly rumbly without pounding in your ears. I did find that when playing music on these speakers it had a tendancy to tend to push the vocals forward more than the instruments but this can be worked on with a bit of treble and bass tweaking.

They've delivered great sound for a basic home theatre setup, served well as laptop speakers for my office, and have pumped out the jams for impromptu dance parties.
