The very typical Malaysian mindset would be "hey this is the direct conversion price when i googled this massive online store in the US! We are being charged too high!"

Now that might be the case for Bentley but you all have to consider shipping, taxes and that those mega stores in US do sale enough quantity to be able to offer those kind of deals.

Back to your question, I've visited Swee lee and their prices are quite competitive. Let's take an example of the list price of a Fender American Standard Telecaster (Sweetwater USD1399) and compare it to Swee Lee list price of MYR5.9k. I'd say that's very very competitive, considering the fact you dont have to pay for shipment and tax and you can go try out the guitar before purchasing. I dont care if it's American made for guitars I'll definitely want to have a close look at the workmanship (unless its a Suhr or high end PRS - yes, I'm biased).

Price of PRS and Mesas in Bents is nuts.
Now I'm hoping some serious competition for tube amps because shipping them in is a massive headache.

QUOTE(Ramin @ Apr 19 2016, 05:21 PM)
Yeah, except they never actually got to sell 10.

Because for the price of "10k", the more astute Malaysians realized that we could have a holiday in Singapore (or watch a concert, or whatever) and come back with the same guitar (purchased at a lower price).  Much of my gear has been purchased from Singapore - Davis, Swee Lee, City Music, TyMC etc. because it simply made sense.  Why pay more?  What value would we be getting buying locally?  We shouldn't have to ask for a miserable 10% discount on already ridiculously marked up prices.

They lost Fender because they did little to develop the market, and basically they were not competitive - even to this day, they don't have an e-commerce enabled website to cater to out of state customers.  If a company wants to be the exclusive distributor, then they need to ensure that they can achieve sales and grow their market.  They're now trying to reach out to tourists with the Global Blue initiative, but it's too little too late.

you'll be surprised how many rich uncle musicians here in Malaysia.
The people coming on the internet, jamtank, etc are not the real spenders.

actually, one well documented reason why there are fender japan is cos fender decided to seek out a fake fender maker and then license the name to them.
so essentially, fender japans are licensed fakes tongue.gif

but built wise are they really that much difference?

wow just wow
my respect for local business owners just went up a notch knowing they have to deal with this

edit:
I just realized I have a few sms from Swee Lee (both Lot 10 and Sunway Putra) both updating me on items I've called to ask a while before.
Bangsar Swee Lee had no issues with me heading straight for their expensive guitars unlike Bent*cough*lee

hi guys.. sorry for spamming.. first time post here.. i'm looking for some advise..

left playing guitar for several years already.. but thinking to play back..

but thing is, now have small kid and screaming wifu tongue.gif

so, i need to play in silence.. doh.gif

i like to jam along with music playing from pc/player.. so i want something (device) that take the sound from my pc, and from my guitar, and all come out to my headphone.. do i need a mixer device? something? what is the cheapest solution for that? appreciate any advice.. thanks
*
do consider some of those amps from line 6. it's a guitar amp with good built in effects so you dont have to worry about the techy part of wiring and putting it all together as compared with an interface. You can plug your headphones in. If you wanna play along with music just bluetooth it from your phone / pc

probably only VOX amps that's interesting there.
Even for Korg items that I want there always seem to have no stock (surprisingly smaller shops have them).

Their big year end sales have not been interesting too.

I guess thats why, my pedal took up enough real estate for 2 tc-eletronics, sounds dope tho.

JT? off an on la, i got the Flashback from there, but its mostly the usual stuff, but i think i finished the pedal rig , just a delay and a comp for now.

Im eagerly waiting for ceriatones klon copy tho, dont know when that will ever come out
*
let us see your board.

ceriatone's klon clone is at its final stages. mostly casing stuff from what I saw yesterday. sorting that out then they'll be releasing it.

edit: let me try whatsapp you the details

Not tried or heard the AX8 but i've heard the helix and AxeFx alongside.

I think for high gain amp heads, theyre all pretty close. It's the low gain classic amps that i find them easier to tell apart.

Yeah, that's why I was asking around. Plugging it into something like a Laney IRT-X would make a nice and simple rig. Now if only they have a plugin that emulates it which we can try  sweat.gif
