Hi everyone, I am planning to pop the question officially to my long time GF of 9 years. I know she has been patiently waiting for me to ask her the question.

I have zero knowledge on gold/diamond/platinum etc.
Yes I tried to google and find out, but there are way too many things to absorb.

First and foremost is my budget is rm1.5k ( saving up for a house to surprise her soon)
Because there will be another ring from my side during our official engagement, thus I need to prepare my budget for TWO rings.

Which retailer should I go to?
Possible to get a diamond ring with that budget?
My GF can only wear gold(that is what she told me few years back as she is allergic to other type of metals, white gold/platinum I am not sure)
I kinda want to get the ring within a week.

And what other factors that I need to consider before I do the purchase?

All advice and comments are welcomed.

If budget is 1.5k, just get a gold ring. 1.5k diamond is too small to impress, and it may be counter productive in a proposal..

Your budget RM 1.5k is too low.

You should really see this thread.

Went to Tiffany and Co today, really love their harmony design, but yes, it is so expensive, the 0.5 carat ring cost RM24k, and 0.65 carat cost RM30k... Speechless....
*
Other factors to consider: The most important is ring size for both you and your other one. What kind of gold/diamond, can it be replace or remade if your original rings are lost.

Other: Religion. If you can't wear gold, consider platinum ring.

Yes I checked that thread, honestly I'm not earning 10k a month. I still have to support my parents n my siblings whom are still studying. I don't know how much a diamond costs. I can spend more, but I personally think that spending more on a house is a better idea...

Plus i will have to get another ring before our wedding. And i beloved that she would be happy regardless of what i get her.

I just need some advice from those who have actually bought disabling rings before.

Yea with that budget I think gold ring would be the best option for now. You can try looking for diamond ring with gold casing (the holder). Shops to look for are those like Wah Chan, Habib, etc they sell affordable diamond rings. I think they might have something within your budget. No harm taking a look at those. smile.gif

Good luck!

If she allergic to metals then no need ring jor.... Just jizz into the pregnancy outta her and you no need propose also since she nowhere to run loh.... I can tell you this is the ever best tactic that Chinese men do out of desperation to avoid their chick leaving lar....

Only applies unless she's super hot and still as hot as Miranda Kerr after rolling out her first baby unlike the majority that becomes lazy and start shoving McDonalds into their mouths in front the TV instead of hitting the gym.

On the serious note find Platinum.

Yea Im sure they do have as well. I suggest you to just take off one day and spent the whole day in few shopping malls going to all jewellery shops. Of course avoid those expensive branded ones since you have a low budget.

That was what I did haha... Ended up getting the ring from Wah Chan.

If you are lucky, you might get a good deal from an unknown shop smile.gif

If you are looking for diamond rings, just make sure they have the cert. Most common cert is GIA. For diamond ring I suggest you just concentrate on size (carat) and the cut (triple excellent, etc etc). The rest are not so important with your budget.

TBH 1.5 K quite low. I mean for diamond.

Work harder for that or buying from outside Malaysia.

I can get double carat when in UK/US compare to Malaysia.

I had different ideas. Get other metals rather than gold for engagement bcos is less important compare to marriage ring. Then, get gold ring for marriage. Since gold ring is more dangerous to be wore during daily life, a non-gold ring is preferable for engagement ring and she can wear it everyday.

RM1.5K can still get a diamond ring but the diamond is not certified by GIA. To be GIA certified, the diamond must be at least 0.3 carat which will set you back about RM4K inclusive of casting. the price of diamonds will be based on the 4Cs (Carat, Cut, Clarity and Color).

For RM1.5K, you can settle for gold or white gold with an extremely small and lower quality diamond. IMHO, it will not be impressive.

Since you wanna go simple, just get a band will do.

try to get a design that she likes.

remember to get her ring size too.

for me personally, i don't like my ring to be cut and altered. i worried the workmanship will not be good.

just bring her to the nearest shop and pretend to look for rings. ask her to try and later calmly ask the retail assistant the size. while she looks at other rings, take note which design she likes.

P/S: Don't let her try those expensive ones la... later u buy the cheapo ones, ppl will disappointed.... potong stim only.

Seriously ? Just get her a wedding band until you can actually afford a nice ring in the near future laugh.gif Dont need to get anything fancy if your tight on budget. You can even walk into Lazo, thou many doubt their quality and design.

My uncle gave his wife a basic ring when they got together, it was only until their 20th anniversary which he gotten her a 2carat ring as he was making good money then.

why don't take proposal and engagement rings turn into 1 if you have tight budget? You just have to buy another ring for yourself afterward.

Else, you gonna spend more if wanted to buy engagement ring again.

My GF can only wear gold(that is what she told me few years back as she is allergic to other type of metals, white gold/platinum I am not sure)
I kinda want to get the ring within a week.

And what other factors that I need to consider before I do the purchase?
All advice and comments are welcomed.

The only good thing about this whole thing is. She has told me repeatedly not to spend so much on ONE ring. AND I am not specifically going for those gorgeous diamond rings. As long as the ring is nice and meaningful.
I know for rm 1.5 k...I can't get a decent diamond ring. We Indians are more towards gold anyway. I really appreciate all the advice I have gotten so far.

Is it possible to get a nice platinum ring with some normal rock with it? I will definitely tell her it is not the purest of stones, but knowing her for 9 years, I know she will be very happy as long as I get her the ring.

The wedding ring's budget is around 4-5k, coz I feel it as much more important. This one is for formalities la biggrin.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

p/s: I don't think spending around 20-40k on one ring is a good idea unless I get paid a lot....i mean A LOT

As I said, you may always go for a cheaper alternative smile.gif I got myself and my gf a couple ring from Lazo which cost both of it less then 1K, and in our opinion, it looks magnificent. Dont keep your options to only the big labels. Sometimes the unname gold shops also carry good designs and a lower rate wink.gif

Normal gold ring is already 1k+... just imagine the size of the diamond 200-300 can buy.. need magnifying glass to see, and impossible skill to set the diamond.
