is lambert needed for LIV upfront ?? he's more to target player, carrol-type (plus he's 32).. borini and assaidi both still in the squad (for now) .. it would be sad if suso gone tho..
Just because he is big and tall doesn't mean he is a Carroll type player.
Even at the age of 32, I think Lambert is at least twice the player Carroll is at the moment. His first touch, dribbling, awareness and finishing are top notch from what I've seen from him this past season. Definitely not your typical target man striker. His penalty conversion rate is 100% out of the previous 34 attempts.
Oh and I don't really rate Remy by the way. If Lambert's price is the quoted 4m plus addons I will take him over 8m Remy.
Remy is more Sturridge like. Typical selfish-ish striker who looks for himself most of the time. Wonder how many here think we should buy him only by looking at his goals scored instead of actually watching Newcastle play this season. Remy didn't impress me all that much. Ba has scored a ton for Newcastle, so has Cisse but where are they now in PL striker's ranking?
if following the premier league player performance index, remy is actually just below coutinho in overall ranking...at rank 34 and 33 respectively...so not that bad also. lambert is surprisingly at rank 12...
Yeah and Coutinho isn't a consistent player. The same can be said of Remy. Lambert on the other hand has been consistent and a very very good team player. Definitely gives us something different off the bench. Depth is what we need. 4m for a backup striker whose love for the club wouldn't mind sitting playing second fiddle to Sturridge and Suarez. Doubt Remy can do the same and not complain.
Suarez is hoping for a big name to come into Liverpool this summer;
and BR gave him Rickie Lambert.
Looks like we are still clinging to the British herd mentality....Sigh.
Oh please. We already have 2 20 goal striker. Do you expect another one to come warm the bench? This is a backup signing. Marquee signing still to come.
Really, I suppose everyone thinks that Suarez and Sturridge can score 20+ goals per individual next season and free from injury the entire season.
Not me. Maybe Suarez will repeat the feat, but definitely not Sturridge.
Exactly why Lambert is a backup striker? He scored 28 goals in the past 2 seasons. Let's say Suarez scores only 20 which is way off from his 30 last season with Sturridge chipping in maybe 15 and another 10 from Lambert. That there is 45 goals from our strikers alone from a conservative estimate. Why not have a look at Lambert's number of assists? Only 4 players managed double figures in assists last season, Gerrard Suarez Rooney and Lambert. Now we have 3 of them.
Were you really expecting us to throw 32m for Costa and bench him when we start with Sturridge and Suarez? Then what? Spend peanuts on other more crucial areas - fullbacks.
Liverpool have made an improved £25m bid for Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana, according to Sky sources.
Southampton rejected a £20m bid from Liverpool for Lallana earlier this month, but the Merseysiders have returned with another offer for the England international.
Liverpool are thought to be determined to complete the deal before Roy Hodgson's squad fly out to the World Cup.
4mill for me still is a little bit overpriced.. lallana 25mill surely over and over overpriced. With 29million combined for soto player, we can get a much more talented player than overpriced british. I still remember when first time we sign andy carrol and said we overpaid the transfer fee... Almost the same exact argument lol to justify him with all the stat since he played at championship Hope lambert dont retired early
Difference is Lambert had 2 good seasons for 4m whereas Carroll had HALF a good season in top flight for 35m.
I thought some posters here were absolutely over the moon when we signed Andy, & some of them even went as far saying that the 35mil was a BARGAIN. And then the next minute you know, you get all sorts of article coupled with cherry picked nonsensical stats to make Andy look like the next big thing in Liverpool....
Oh fans in lyn just lap it up...looks like history is going to repeat itself with Lallana. Seriously, lallana at current form = i'll pay 15 mil at best and not a penny more. Scouts need to do their job. Or perhaps BR needs to have a bigger scope n look beyond UK horizon.
Maybe we should hire the scouts from Newscastle.
Except no one is saying that 25m for Lallana is a bargain? Every single comment from many websites are saying that while Lallana is a good player 25m is a massive ripoff.
Not so keen on the Newcastle scouts though, 2-3 seasons ago plaudits were flowing in for their capture of Cabaye, Cisse, Ba etc at cut price deals but look at where they are now. Ba had one good season and Cisse had a half. Cabaye was the only consistent star player they had. Their subsequent captures of the likes of Sissoko, Gouffran, Marveaux, Haidara, Anita, De Jong, Mbiwa ain't great. What made you think their scouts are good? Perhaps you wanna take a look at Joe Kinnear too now that he is off their books?
why compare carroll's stats while at LFC? carroll's stats the 2 seasons before LFC and lambert's current 2yr stats arent that much different...in fact carroll's was slightly better. only time will tell if lambert can fit into LFC's style of play...then again...the 'value' term comes into play...as ppl would just say...its only 4m...
Lol maybe read what I said again? I wasn't comparing Carroll's stats at LFC. What I said was prior to the 35m purchase of Carroll he only had HALF A SEASON of top flight experience in which he impressed scoring 11 goals in 19 games for Newcastle. He scored lots of goals the season prior but it was in the Championship and only scored 3 PL goals before Newcastle was relegated.
On the other hand, Lambert has impressed in the past 2 seasons IN THE TOP FLIGHT with a return of 28 goals.
4m for someone proven over the course of 2 years versus 35m for someone who had half a good season. Easy to spot which buy was more impulsive and more risky.

Very true. Navas is definitely better than lallana. I'd rather buy shaqiri at 15mil and mascherano at 9mil. 2 top players at 25mil odd is better than lallana.
Don't really rate Navas to be honest. Shaqiri is nice but Mascherano is not. He commands top wages and where are you gonna play him? In the Gerrard role? He doesn't have the creativity and passing range. In the Henderson role? He doesn't have the attacking instincts to make offensive plays. He is basically a much more expensive Lucas who struggled to play further up the pitch last season.
yes i can see the stats on games played...but its also extremely easy to forget carroll had only just turned 22 when he signed for LFC...and had just emerged from the newcastle reserves at almost 18 to play for first team... those 3 goals he scored before relegation...well that would make him 20yrs of age then...basically what sterling has also scored so far... so needless to say he had plenty of potential for growth then...he just needs the right team to bring it out again...provided he can stay injury free.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking on Carroll's "potential" even though I believe he doesn't have much of it anyway. My point in the first place is that Lambert's purchase is far more justifiable because someone suggested that 4m is overpriced and compared it to justifying Carroll's purchase with his stats from the Championship. Hence my response that Lambert has more than proven that he can be consistent in the top flight whereas we were relying too much on faith on Carroll.
Even when Carroll is playing for the long ball specialist Big Sam he still doesn't look like he has that massive "potential" in him. He is blessed with a big physical body but that's about it. Probably no one ever bothered teaching him how to "play football" with his feet when he was growing up.
And why compare winger Sterling with out and out striker Carroll? Even so, Sterling now at the age of 19 has 11 league goals, way more than Carroll's at this point in their respective careers. Even then I don't see anyone throwing 35m in our faces for Sterling because despite his potential Sterling has only really impressed towards the 2nd half of last season. He has shown maturity beyond his years and no longer only relying on sheer pace and no end product. Carroll on the other hand has been bullying others of similar age since his youth team times with his massive frame and is still only relying on that now that his body is deteriorating because that's the only thing he knows how to do. He is not a proper footballer, Lambert is.

Rickie Lambert will be announced as a Liverpool player tomorrow – but the move for his Southampton team-mate Adam Lallana is poised to drag on. The Reds had already agreed a fee in the region of £4million with Southampton, with the transfer completed tomorrow when the relevant paperwork is registered.
However, Liverpool’s pursuit of Lallana has reached an impasse with the Saints digging in their heels over the 26-year-old midfielder. Southampton rejected the Reds’ opening bid of £20m and have shown no signs of accepting an improved final offer of £25m.
Lol this is just silly. I don't see a reason why not have a go at Cesc if reports are true however unlikely it is while looking at other alternatives. Cesc is the sort of player who could eventually develop into a deep lying playmaker. Still much more likely to rejoin Arsenal though or even United.
25m for a 26 year old and another England international. We aiming to become the feeder club for England? and holy what's with all the liverpool fans so sure we're gonna get fabregas?
As long as we don't suffer the same trophyless fate as England.
Getting Fabregas? Highly unlikely but see no reason why not to not give it a go anyway. Nothing to lose.

Yeah but they always failed to go all the way through. I think they'll reach quater/semi this year too but they won't become champion. It's either Spain or Argentina IMO. But bonus if England wins it Anyways, regarding Moreno. Worth it? I've seen him play but on youtube. Maybe some of yous who follow La Liga can shed some light on this guy.
"Sevilla are reported to want an initial cash sum of £16.2 million which could then rise to £20 million with add-ons."
From what I've seen, personally prefer Ricardo Rodriguez over Alberto Moreno. Rodriguez is bigger, better defensively and can really cross the ball while Moreno is quicker.
I'm more optimistic about Can making it in England than Moreno. Moreno might be the more expensive player at the moment but I'm not convinced he can adapt to the English game especially when he didn't even really impress me with his La Liga clips.
I'm convinced Can will be the more valuable player in a few years time. The only reason the kid isn't playing for Bayern is because Schweini, Kroos, Lahm, Thiago and Martinez are all ahead of him.
i don't really think it was that bad of a tackle to warrant such a reaction from valencia. he obviously wasn't injured and was walking around perfectly fine so to grab sterling by the neck because you were scared he was going to end your career? erm...ok? it was a two footed tackle though (although it started as a one footed one), and opinion is divided whether it deserved a red. this article makes me worry about what moreno can bring. his interceptions per game are way higher than our existing wbs, but in all other stats he's really inferior. granted he's younger, but i don't think he warrants a 15m-22m pricetag.
Moreno vs our wingbacks? emre can is like lucas, and apparently his stats are also inferior compared to lucas. he is 7 yrs younger though.
Exactly why I think Moreno hasn't really convinced me as a supposed "offensive wingback". Despite his dribbling ability and speed down the flanks, he doesn't actually create much for the team when he overlaps. All he does is take the ball out wide and plays a safe pass back into midfield. Too predictable. That's what Flanno has been doing all season in that position but forgivable since his dominant foot is right. I was expecting a "wingback" to be more of a Coentrao or Evra who can take the ball down the byline and thread a dangerous pass/cross into the box. His defensive stats doesn't look that good either. His deficiencies in defense might be forgiven if his offensive game was as good as Glen Johnson in his prime but unfortunately it is not. He is only 21 though, hopefully BR can work his magic on him.
Emre Can for me is more of a playmaker than defensive midfielder though. Much more skillful and more passing range than Lucas. Maybe a mixture of Gerrard and Alonso?

Haha same, I also would be happy if we sign Balotelli, then we could have Suarez & Balo the bad boy duo..
There was a joke last summer of a front trio of Balotelli Suarez and Costa. Bring in Joey Barton too and the club goes into a bad boy meltdown.

or thats what youtube would have you believe anyway alonso with LFC the stats on goals scored is pretty similar to Can.
Alonso in his prime is slow but Can on the other hand can burst down the pitch. That's the biggest difference there. That's also why he can deputize at left back too.
Well that spells an end to the british fanatics wet dreams now.I always knew BR wasnt that dumb. Buying british can only win you the coca cola or pepsi cup at best.
