Rooney used to be a great alternative to our CM, but that only happened during SAF days. Remember when we were 2 or more goals up, he would be instructed to be our box2box man, in order to replace tiring Fletcher or Anderson. He was exceptional though, hardworking, offensively and defensively. His long passes were almost Scholes-like, and his defense rate was second to none. Those days were his prime times IMO, but time passes, so does his greatness, solely caused by his own ego unfortunately.
If the next manager knows how to handle it (LvG has the criteria), given the lad ready to step down his ego, then I'm sure it will be fine for both parties and thus pursuing his dream on overtaking Sir Bobby's goal scoring record.
If not, I cant see any reason on why would we keep him. No man bigger than the club. Enough said.
