I thought it was Moyes team out there playing today. Piss poor display by the experienced duo in midfield.
I guess it would take more than just spending millions upon millions on buying new players to repair this current team. Something rotten in the core. My prediction it would take some time to get this team back up there and I hope it is not just by buying new players. Need to implement new ideas into the club I think. New ideas on playing football. New techniques and play with more sophistication. Combine those ideas with world class facilities that they already have. Hopefully some like LvG would bring that idea so in hope the current coach would take it up and learn something. Even Barca and La Masia was inspired by a Dutch. I just hope current situation would *not* make potential stars like DDG and Janujaz looking elsewhere. With that kind of football every week, dont think anybody would. QUOTE(three2wan @ May 4 2014, 12:08 AM) I dont think thats the right way to go. They have been loyal servants and players like Vidic and Evra showed us today that they still give their all when playing out there. It is the philosophy that needs to be renewed. Inject new fresh ideas. I guess it would be more sophisticated than just changing of personnel and what set of numbers you put in your formation. There was no movement no one touch passes no ball retention. It would take more than just right motivation to make this team move forward. The board needs to make the right decision now and appoint someone with big brass balls to take on some big headed individuals in the team. It would be a shame to see such talents like Jones Kagawa Mata Janujaz go to waste. |

QUOTE(sunblaze @ May 4 2014, 12:28 AM) Problem is: Bar Vidic, if United simply discards "old players" just because of their age would cause more instability. I was referring to a post saying the old players should be kicked out. I still think Evra could become part of squad but maybe not first choice. Rio well maybe he is close to retirement anyway. 1) Vidic already decided to go to Inter 2) Evra is always awesome going forward, but defensively he has been giving heart-attacks for around 2 years now. Keep him as a LW? hehehe 3) Out of the 3 big defensive seniors (Vidic/Rio/Evra), does anyone think Rio has been the best this season in terms of performance standards and attitude? If not, would keeping him be good or would it be compromising on standards? Boils down to the next manager and his plans. Hopefully it's LVG or someone with experience and the skill to make the right choice(s). If anything I would like to see change of playing style rather than wholechange of personnel. Southampton managed to do good without so called world class players. If somehow United could combine intricate passing style with better first touches and ball retention with the SAF agressive counternattack way i would be great. The only team that is close to that idea now is Real Madrid for me. Play with width and good passing and ball retention. Good counter attack when chance arises. |

QUOTE(alien2003 @ May 4 2014, 01:33 PM) http://www.caughtoffside.com/2014/05/03/ex...spending-spree/ I would be really, really, REALLY surprised if United could pull one or two of the 5 off, let alone all Cesc + Shaw + Cavani + Vermaelen style doesnt change, it would still be same story like this season |

Rooney doesn't have the vision for making key passes. All he does is going sideways. He is a good emergency CM but not for every game. His awareness and
discipline is lacking for that kind of key positions. He is a great striker no doubt, but pretty average at other positions. |

Rooney is a very good striker and unplayable on his good days. But IMHO, in order for the team to move forward, he needs to be released, but not to another
EPL rival United core is important for any team. Bayern have their stars but youth team products are within that team. Same goes with Real, and Barca. If, let's say, the likes of Rooney, Nani, Young, Carrick, Vidic, Rio, Evra, Giggs are no longer there next season, I would think those two are needed because they are experienced United players, knows the club inside out compared to whoever will be brought in by new manager. Just saying that because I don't want suddenly United become another lifeless mercenaries team with no passion for the club. |

Last game at OT. Time to play the "United boys"?
Pereira, Janko, Varela, or whoever. |

Miss the game
manager, youth players like Wilson would get more chances and trained properly. Janujaz looked like a senior player already. |

For me, I guess it is delayed out of respect for the Oranje team, I mean he is still the manager, only would be released after their WC campaign is ended. They
have been waiting 4 years to get to this stage, and perhaps more determined to win it in Brazil after what happened last time. Just hoping that the United team would have already learnt their lessons regarding their handling of club's affairs and past mistakes. |

Pity for players like Rafael not to be included. Special WC too for them, but he is still young. He would get more chances in the future. Whether he would grasp
that opportunities in the future, well who knows? |

I would like it to be given to Adidas. Not that I don't like Nike's designs. Just the same every year. Hopefully when they lost the contract, they will buck up with
better ideas next time. |

30 years old is old nowadays?
important in today's game, but he has the intelligence to overcome his lack of pace. I think he would play until his mid-30's, bar his luck with injuries. He is genuine quality player, and he still bang in the goals when he plays. Not sure why would you spend lots of money of quality player, who have proven his quality to the team just to sell him because he is 30, then spend lots of money on a player, who is quality but not sure if he would work in United team? Just don't expect too big of signings in the summer. Reus? Sounds like Klopp would play him in Lewa's position next season referring to his latest quote. |

If there is no upcoming better player in the reserves than Buttner, I would let him stay as back-up at least. Real have both Marcelo and Coentrao. Both
former winger playing as LB nowadays. Just like Buttner. I think with proper coaching he could be good squad player. Valencia too. I hope |

QUOTE(king_eric @ May 10 2014, 10:12 PM) next season is gonna be crucial... very very crucial. if we dont win the league, we will then be used to mediocre seasons just like what the other teams were facing. Therefore, at whatever cost, we have to go for the title. So, Cavani being here will only help us in our quest next season... I don't think our strikeforce is bad, and having Cavani would be too much of luxury, where other areas in the team are very weak. I mean since when RvPbecame bad player? Or any other strikers for that matter. |

QUOTE(andrewtho @ May 11 2014, 01:05 AM) Buttner has been around for quite awhile now, 2012? Sure he has a few good games but that doesn't mean he is a shoo in for the starting eleven. If you've noticed, Buttner tends to make mistakes, especially when it comes to tackling and marking. He has this trait of going forward. Maybe he can consider changing to LM rather than LB because he operates well when he is attacking rather than defending. I still don't trust him for big games, maybe as a backup yes, but not a on a frequent basis. With no Europe next season almost becoming a certainty, I don't see why Janujaz couldn't play most of the games. He would have first full season under hisExperience is vital. Youngsters will have their part in rotation, they can play often but not on a week in week out basis. The whole idea of squad rotation is to blend youth and experience together, not overly relying on them because they need to be nurtured with proper guidance and that will take time. Surely we have plenty of youngsters waiting on the flanks, but I believe our main downfall this season is due to the lack of calibre in certain positions and I'm glad that Januzaj had the opportunity to develop well this season. I don't see Januzaj playing week in week out either. If you've noticed, David Moyes blends the team in terms of experience and youth as a unit. The only problem is that the squad is declining, age factor, the lack of pace and injuries. Squad rotation is the key. belt already, hopefully another good pre-season, he would become stronger and experienced next season. He is the best winger this season without a doubt and he will be for years to come if he continues the rate of development like he is having now. For me, he is less frustrating to watch compared to CR7 when he is at that age. |

QUOTE(andrewtho @ May 11 2014, 11:39 AM) RVP is never known for that 'pacey' trait but he is a cunning forward, and his finishing is excellent. But injuries this season really affected his form of late, with the WC looming and RVP is the main forward for the Dutch team, I am worried he will get wornout again. Of course it is always good to have more than one clinical strikers. Chica and Welbeck are good backups, but we surely need another forward if we were to offload Rooney (worst case scenario). 3 strikers are not bad IMHO. I don't think RvP's form have been affected much at all. He got injured much of the season, yes but United's form generally have Pace is important in the BPL but not in Spain/Serie A/ Bundesliga. Look at how Man City/Chelsea/Liverpool went with speedy wingers this season. We won last season because of pace too, but it seems to be the missing element this season. I would welcome the addition of a new winger, be it Reus, Muller or Griezmann been patchy, including other players. Welbeck's form has been good, even though there are many haters out there. In the league, his stats are not that much different from that 30+ million Negredo. How much is Welbeck? Europe next season. Just don't see why United would want to spend that much of money, on a single player, that wanted to get out of PSG, just because he is second best? Heard that one before somewhere when United got Mata, but it would be a really major coup if United could tempt Reus. Maybe after next season, when United got back to the top, playing good football with a certain style. |
