Reports in Italy claim the Turin giants have agreed a deal worth up to £5million for the Portuguese winger as they look to switch from a defensive 3-5-2 formation to a bolder 4-3-3 system for next season.

Nani, who agreed a new five-year deal with United earlier in the season, was frozen out of the first team by ex-boss David Moyes as last year's Premier League champions struggled to keep pace with the top four.

The versatile attacker, signed by Sir Alex Ferguson for £20million from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, started under Ryan Giggs in yesterday's 1-0 defeat to Sunderland at Old Trafford, but was hauled off early in the second half after another poor performance.

Nani has long been linked with a move away from Manchester after an inconsistent seven year-stay, and chief executive Ed Woodward has moved quickly to offload a player unlikely to be in boss-to-be Louis Van Gaal's plans.

Nani will become to second player to exit United this summer, with club captain Nemanja Vidic on his way to Inter Milan on a free transfer.

Plans are underway for a huge squad overhaul, and the likes of Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley and Rio Ferdinand also look set to be shown the door by the Red Devils, with stars including Toni Kroos and Kevin Strootman topping Van Gaal's shopping list.
