very nice of RVP to defend Rooney from criticism...

but speaking about ROoney, i still wanna criticise a bit. he has really lost that instinct/sharpness, or whatever you call it. he wasnt like this 2-3 years back. i remember in SAF's last season in charge, rooney couldnt influence a match even coming off the bench. Against Uruguay, when his back is facing goal, he gets robbed of the ball so easily. it wouldnt happen if RVP was in that position coz anticipation/awareness plays a big part and rooney somehow has lost it... haiz, not to say i like to criticize him ler but sad that cant see his magic on the field like last time. brilliant chip against david james, fantastic volley against newcastle, etc. somehow someday sometime i hope that the magic will come back and lit up theatre of dreams again...  nod.gif

For me. He seems to have lost his touch and passion. There's less joy in his game nowadays.

Like RVP said wayne always been under massive pressure.. inside and outside the field. british media always very critical and harsh on him. even united fans these day start becoming very negative and critcial towards him. Yes he doesnt hv good season last time but so is many of our players..

rooney probably were judge more coz of SAF claim him wanted a move and his new 300k contract. even if he did ask for a transfer SAF really should not hv make it public.. really hope LVG could relive rooney back to his best flex.gif

I prefer the Bald Wayne Rooney mid season 2010/11.After he scored the winner in the thriller aka Manchester Derby..he scored more goals till the end of the season.I remember seeing him showing the F finger towards West ham fans!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Exactly. Nowadays it *looks* like he's trying to play smart, but more often than not he ends up slowing down play with his cute diagonal balls or losing the ball way too often.

The difference between him and the other players is:
1) He asked for a transfer in 2010 and was even willing to go to City (of all clubs).
2) Couple of years later he disputed SAF's statement about wanting out of the club, but after that all through the summer he didn't close the door on an exit either. If he really didn't want out of the club, all he had to do in his final season under SAF was continue to do his best, and at the end of the season issue a statement that it was his aim to stay with the club and that it's just a matter of contract negotiations being in progress. Instead, he made it clear when he was unhappy at being dropped, and the whole summer he didn't make any effort to deny the reports about him being unhappy and wanting out of the club, and kept quiet until the contract to his liking was there for him to sign by Kayu and Moyes.
3) Other players are being paid less than him, so even if their performances are underwhelming they aren't taking as much in wages AND they can sit on the bench. Rooney has shown more than once that if he is benched it's strop-o-clock.

He has proven more than once that when contract negotiation time nears, he is willing to publicly go in two-footed with studs showing against the club to push the club to give him what he wants. How do you have a soft spot for someone like that? His performances are streaky depending on his form but he demands big money and status in a rough way against the club. If he wants to act like a mercenary, then for me there is little reason to think of him as anything more than that.

If LVG can get the mercenary to provide his good form again then it will be a relief, if LVG decides that he isn't needed then that will also be fine.

Because the latter 3 players are lower profile AND had less expectations on them tongue.gif

Gerrard, Rooney, Sterling have the Superman shirt. Welbeck is the favorite scapegoat whenever anything goes wrong.

That's the thing about England. It's always about the next superstar player that will save the team, the country, end the hurt, blablabla.

Not about the team working better than the sum of its parts, instead it's about how to fit every superstar into the starting 11 so they can take turns to work miracles. End up playing guys out of position because their name is big and the manager can't bench them. Then wonder why the player doesn't perform, and why the team falls short.

If Nasri was English he would be in the starting 11 even if he had to play @ RB because he is "too good to not play".

if that so it mean england fan has 0 knowledge in football.. all they did are just take 3-4 targeted player and if thing goes wrong the 300k/week, overated, headless chicken issue will pop up...

even with rough comparison, the defence is still poorer than attack... 2 goals in 2 game is average but 4 conceded in 2 game is garbage...

2goals conceded are from unmarked header
1goals concded is from unmarked player
1goals conceded is from free space long ranger

this show we are half weak in aerial and very poor in marking..

the player that good in both marking and aerial is ________________ .

a. Played in a friendly before the WC with Jones @ CB and according to reports did poorly. Hardly a "titan" at club level either.
b. CM coming off another injury hit season where he hasn't been at his best. He had 17minutes on vs Italy but didn't convince the manager for more.
c. Not in the squad so it's a moot point.
d. Not in the squad so it's a moot point.

Personally, I feel it's because the team formation is top heavy. Not enough cover for the defense. The "idea" seems to have been to do a Liverpool and scare the opponents with attack and outscore them. Sadly, it didn't work out.

Looking at the defense.

- Baines and Johnson are better on the attack than on defense.
- Jagielka and Cahill are "okay" without being top notch.
- Gerrard, master of suicidal back-pass and slips along with Henderson in a 2 man CM. They didn't want to play 3 in the middle.... and this part perplexes me the most actually.

Then again, even in years when there were better players England always had this knack for somehow losing. Uruguay and Italy are both higher ranked AND have had better results in major tournaments in recent years.

So on one hand, cannot say it's surprising.. at all.

On the other hand, look at Costa Rica. When was the last time England even managed THAT kinda result in a major tourney?

Blame Kayu la, no signings to make us go hnggh brb. Just media hot air and lots of .... nothing. Unless Valencia signing for 3 more years is supposed to excite us like a new signing.

So talk about WC and WC teams since our players are playing there.

IT'S GONNA BE A DAMN LONG SUMMERRRRRR

Accepted. How not to accept? Deny also it's there and it happened.

More a case of scratching head and face-palming and wondering what could have been done differently.
