I didn't know that you can use zoom on super macro. What mode are you in?

Ah, all of your pics is so cool. I need to find some insects too. tongue.gif
*
I was in AV. And nah, I didn't use zoom in super macro.
I just sat about 1 1/2 feet away from the dragonfly and zoomed in.
And maybe used digital zoom until about 16x or so.
The picture isn't cropped, in case you're wondering. It is full reso.

tulerst, kinz_11,
Are both of you sure tht you using S3!?!?!?!
How come your photo all so sharp 1??!

It's bcause using low ISO?? MACRO?
*
Not really. ISO yeah, true. But not macro. Plus for me a little bit of sharpening, on the dragonfly.
Most of the shots were ISO 80 - 100.

When you use digital zoom, you are not in full resolution.

Well in good situations, this camera is pretty damn good. But I've been limited by it quite a few times.

My take on the S3:

Manual control is good. M,AV - I use these the most.
ISO is good up until 200.
IS works, I guess, as I can get hand held shots at half-a-second pretty blur free.
Video, I like the high FPS though I've only ever used it once.
Don't really like the LCD as it's pretty hard to see in bright light. Composing a picture through the EVF and LCD can be tough at times.
Super macro is fun to play with. So is the 12x Zoom.

All in all, a pretty great cam to start shooting with, barring a few negatives.

I tried the reverse lens thing. Zoomed in to 12x, then I taped a 50mm Manual Minolta lens onto the end, reversed.
Hardly looked good, but it was pretty fun to play with.

Two things :
1. DOF is EXTREMELY shallow. Like, really really shallow. Probably 0.2mm or something, I think.
2. You need really good, and I mean real good, lighting to take shots.

Camera Settings:
AV Mode
Manual focus max distance
Zoom 12x
Apperture, whatever you want

Reverse Lens Settings:
Apperture f/2 (razor thin DOF, but least vig)

You can get pictures like this:

And the flowers are actually these:

The lens is going to get jammed if you push the off button. Dangerous...

Oooh most def. But then again, I'm sure anyone wouldn't be that ignorant to turn off the camera before removing the lens.

hmpph....i'm using a canon 10d and still cant get great shots
my hand shakes la
any suggestions ka?
*
Try not to use such slow shutter speeds, remember the rule of shutter speed: 1/focal length, get an IS lens. wink.gif

Cos as much as I love my 400D, I do miss the IS of my s3 at times.
Which is why I still have it tongue.gif

hmm.......should any tripod be ok ka
the thing is my camera damn heavy la....i'm afraid it will tip over
i was hoping can get one below rm100
=)
*
Well IHMO you shouldn't be stingy when it comes to tripods. Cos the way I see it, if you can spend thousands on a camera, you should spend at least a reasonable amount on good support. You wouldn't want your camera to fall down and whatnot all because of a cheap tripod, now, would you? Of course I don't mean spending ridiculous amounts of money either. But get a good, solid and not overly cheap tripod. It'll be a good investment.

Eh, not all manfrottos are about 1k. Some can get for around 500, maybe 400. Hahahah. You know there's a shop near my house, yang kat lobsterman tu, they sell camera equipment like tripods, monopods, studio lighting and stuff for pretty okay prices, apparently.

Alternatively you could get a monopod. That's what i plan to get. Getting a carbon fiber one, can't recall the brand, from bintang maju in lowyat sometime soon. Monopod + head should be bout 500.

Edit: Yeh, it's pretty steep. But I can use the monopod as a weapon too. biggrin.gif

@ aceejay: Yep it's the S3. You pun boleh buat. Senang jer. Hahahaha

@ Kinz: Digital kasi itu gambar abit the blur blur la. Even if I sharpen, it doesn't look that good. If use normal zoom and crop, not so bad.
BTW this was shot in RAW and edited with Lightzone. RAW editing is so memuaskan! biggrin.gif

I don't use manual focus except I'm doing focus bracketing. The EVF resolution is too little for my eyes to track the focus accurately.
