Hi AVFAN,
Need your advice. I have Samsung UHDTV, Onkyo TX-SR309 AV Receiver and Q16. The hdmi out from Q16 goes to SR309 and then out to UHDTV. SR309 is not 4K ready so will I get a good picture quality or should I get a newer AV Receiver? Or should I connect hdmi from Q16 direct to UHDTV instead?
the 4K capability of the q16 only comes in only if u play 4k video. n i think there arent many now, so unlikely u want 4k output to tv all the time.Need your advice. i havent tried bu i wud think if u do play 4k, input to the avr will just be downgraded to max the avr can handle. so, may be a little lower in quality. note also when we say 4k, it also largely depends on yr source - is it really 4k or just labelled 4k?!
if u go q16->tv, you will b assured of 4k video whenever u play it but... u give up on hd audio since the hdmi is not going into avr. you can only get core dts/dd with q16->avr via toslink or coaxial.
best to try both and see which setup comes out better for yr eyes n ears.
unless u have lots of 4k video to playbac and don't care much about hd audio, i suspect u will be happier with q16->avr->uhdtv.
