Q16 Quad Core has improved the limitation of Q16 Dualcore which unable to replace Himedia Launcher. Now you can change the default Himedia Launcher to APEX launcher in Q16 quad core as below :

Dear Customers, if you subscribed to Netflix, please follow the below step to upgrade your Netflix to Super HD streaming :

1). Pls download the apk file in my Skydrive drive under subfolder "Netflix Super HD".

2). Backup your current Netflix apk file to external Pendrive just in case you would like to fall back.

3). Uninstall your current Netflix and install the Super HD version by click the downloaded APK file.

4). Check your Netflix setting in your Netflix account, set the Data Usage to Auto or High as per below link :

Netflix streaming will start with none HD, if your Internet bandwidth is sufficient, it will auto switch to HD or Super HD. As per my testing, mostly you will get HD during day time and night time possible to get Super HD.

P/S : If you are new about Netflix. please to be noted Netflix is paid service. We do not sell Netflix service but you could get it from Lowyat thread.

2). There are India movies content in xBMC and CloudTV. I believe you could google more Indian movies apps.

In term of audio video codec, Himedia has longer history in media player development, Himedia audio video capability is better than X8H. This is software development which you could not compare in term of hardware specification.

As mentioned in x8h thread, the reason to choose x8h if you merely depend on xBMC to watch movies because x8H has xBMC minix edition which customized from Minix hardware.

Both q16 and x8h have it's strength, the selection is depend on your requirement.

Since you are doing the survey, let me share with you the below :

1). Selection criteria of Android TV box is not the CPU speed or number of cores, very important criteria is the audio/video decoding capability and the reliability of the hardware.
2). Hardware Principle play very important role. Please select the hardware manufacturer that has in-house Android engineer to continuously develop the firmware to fix software bugs and capable to develop Android Apps as value added service.
3). Check the historical firmware version to verify the continuous bug fixes and improvement.
4). Please avoid Stick base or dongle base Android TV due to the heat and WIFI signal issues.
5). Post sales support is very important to optimize your device. It is best if the principle has public forum for sharing and feedback.

P/S : Android player is different from traditional DVD or Blueray player where you the functionality is static. Android Player is software driven, the functionalities are dynamic by upgrading the apps or firmware. Therefore post sales support is very important and sharing of information among the community is very important as well.

1). Home button and Menu button working perfectly (previously HOME button not working with Dual Core model)
2). You could disable the mouse by double click the top right button (with mouse label).
3). The keyboard function is working as well.

Please find below my answer to your questions:

1). The build in player could not preview picture of the movies. This is nice to have features, most important is the video and audio code.

2). When you press menu button, to can see ExpressX where you can adjust video setting as below photo :

Your may refer to HD600A Quad Core product catalog as below, the player will be the same as Q5 quad core or Q16 quad core.

The operating system and the CPU of HD600A quad core is totally different form the HD600A. Please do not expect the same player for HD600A and HD600A quad core, only the casing is the same.

The beauty of Android player is capable to install 3rd party player from Googleplay and do not bonded to the hardware manufacturer. Just search 3rd party player from the GooglePlay if any player meeting your requirement. But I am very confident you will like Himedia native player at the end. As mentioned earlier, the most important of the player is not the cosmetic but the audio and video codec capability.

Bro, Ethernet port could not set proxy.

To set proxy for Ethernet, you need 3rd party app such as proxydroid. But using 3rd party apps you need to root the device.

My suggestion to customer is :

1). Use wifi with proxy setting
2). Use Ethernet without proxy

With the above setting, you have the flexibility to switch between proxy and none proxy without changing the setting.

Dear Customers,

Firmware for Quad Core(1.0.4) and Dual Core(1.0.8) already available in my Skydrive. Just download the firmware from my Skydrive to your Pendrive root directory (DO NOT unzip the file or save in subfolder). There is 2 way to upgrade the firmware :


1). Goto Setting -> Upgrade -> Choose local upgrade. This method will retain the apps and settings after the upgrade.


2). Use the Restore Button to upgrade. This method is clean upgrade, it will remove all the apps and setting, pls backup the apps before use 2nd method. Detail step by step guide is in the Skydrive.

P/S : Upgrade the firmware only when necessary. If the current firmware do not give any issue, it is advisable not to upgrade.

Below are the change log for Dual Core(1.0.8) :
1. Add MangoTV logo in the loading screen
2. Long press HOME button to enter recent used apps and clean apps from memory
3. Minor improvement of Himedia Launcher
4. Fix wrong time shown in some Live TV Apps
