Anyone got an opinion on unique toys Mania King?
The upcoming vintage color reissue looks so much better thanks to the grey plastic. But the size seems a bit small for Galvatron... And I heard unique toys' build quality is not so good? |

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jul 15 2014, 05:15 PM) Any actually but the problem is cash. Got my first ever 3rd party figure in the mail the other day: Terminus Hexatron.Feel like cancelling my Starscream for this guy but at the end, i think i stick to it since I have been waiting a good quality Starscream for a long time. 3rd party are pretty damn awesome so might go for them in the future. Collecting high detailed transformers and diecast cars models is a pretty terrible combination. What an amazing piece of engineering. And very solid plastic + build quality too. Beats 99% of anything Hasbro/Takara has ever made. The only thing that still bugs me about 3rd party - apart from the borderline criminal copyright infringement - is the tacky packaging and the ridiculous prices. |

QUOTE(waikin_31 @ Jul 16 2014, 11:25 AM) Ya, simplified indeed but partly because we are comparing it to construction vehicles which are not that boxish or uniform in volume. RM1430 here:I got a quote from a seller before at Rm1300 but required more deposit, around RM260... http://www.x2otoys.com/goods.php?id=347 Crazy la these combiner prices. They're nice and tempting... but how do people justify paying that much? |

QUOTE(HxiiiK @ Jul 16 2014, 06:15 PM) other than 'it looks good'? Yeah that's probably the best way to think about it! no idea.. i'm trying not to think about the end price.. i'm only picking up my first ever 3rd party combiner, warbotron's not-bruticus.. while he does look fantastic, they're 260 per limb and i estimate the body is going to be around 400 just think of them as separate purchases over a few months that combine into an amazing looking figure and you'll be fine I've also been on the fence about not-bruticus, the only thing holding me back is the price relative to what you get. The combiner itself looks amazeballs... but the individual figures seem a bit lacking. Air Burst is not so bad, but Heavy Noisy is just kinda meh, especially that shoulder articulation issue. I guess worst case, if you do ever suffer from buyer's remorse, you can just sell it off at minimal loss since this is a high-demand item This post has been edited by omichael: Jul 16 2014, 06:45 PM |

QUOTE(HxiiiK @ Jul 16 2014, 07:06 PM) i have to say i'm pretty darned impressed with the individual figures too.. not-Brawl may be a bit lacking but i think he's still damn good looking and amazing display-wise Dammit bro why are you telling me all this...what made me go for warbotron's bruticus is the fact that the figures themselves are bigger compared to say, maketoy's or TFC's and the price is pretty much the same that and bruticus has always been one of my favourites.. having a re-imagined figure of him is right up my alley and yes, if you ever have buyer's remorse, you'll likely just be losing out less than 5-10% even when you resell BIB since people still buy them, so there's hardly any reason not to get one if you really feel that you like it The temptation is growing... |

Maybe it's too much of me to ask... but can we please keep KO discussions out of this thread?
KO figures are not Transformers. KO figures are dirty, unethical, creativity-killing pieces of trash made by opportunistic criminals. |

QUOTE(jhcj @ Jul 18 2014, 10:45 AM) in some ways, third party can be considered KOs too. How to differentiate makes sense, since you're helping people AVOID them.my personal opinion is that discussion on KO should be allowed as long as it's informative (e.g. how to differentiate) and not commercial in nature. But reviewing KO figures, or recommending KO figures, or telling people where to buy KO figures, just seems unethical and negative for what is supposed to be a TRANSFORMERS community. Just my opinion, no offense to anyone As for third party, agreed that they too are KOs in their own way, in terms of intellectual property. But at the very very least, companies like FansProject and MMC still have passionate designers creating amazing new moulds. Can't say the same for the copycat pirates who are profiting from existing moulds. This post has been edited by omichael: Jul 18 2014, 11:13 AM |

QUOTE(cycheah @ Jul 18 2014, 11:22 AM) by providing information how to differentiate and review would be fine IMHO. if wanna provide where to buy and stuffs, which involve business nature... that probably can PM that particular person instead post public since it doesn't favor all parties. Hehe then again I am just one guy.fine with all everyone? If I'm the ONLY one who feels this way about KO then no need to change anything lah, just stick with what the majority enjoys |

QUOTE(tnsai @ Jul 18 2014, 09:53 PM) Lol yes. I was aiming for a bit of sarcasm on the KOcepticon part. I found it weird that people can get so bent out of shape over other people wanting to save some money to get a Prime for use with add-ons, but yet gushing over 3rd party Not-Transformers. Because yes, they are KO also. THey did not steal molds but they still "take" the intellectual property. For me, if want to have such a high horse then should condemn all. I was going to post a much longer response on why your opinion is misguided, but others beat me to it.Just my opinion My perspective is that when it comes to ethics, we all draw the line at different places. I'm mostly OK with original 3rd party moulds because despite the intellectual property infringement, they are still driving CREATIVITY within the TF designing & collecting scene. In fact a Hasbro/Takara designer could actually take inspiration from a 3rd party mould, and create better official ones in future. Blatant mould knockoffs, however, benefit no one except for the pirate who sells it. It does not drive creativity in any way whatsoever. Also, no need for sarcasm bro. Or telling me to get off my high horse. We can just agree to disagree like adults. |

BTW, Fansproject's Smart Robin is the perfect example of a 3rd party TF that drives creativity.
I just got him in the mail today (I know, I'm a little late...) The transformation is pretty crazy. Personally, I've never seen any other mould applying some of these techniques before. Like the collapsible torso. Soon, we'll see official and non-official designers borrowing new techniques like this for new moulds. And that's the kind of innovation that benefits everyone. QUOTE(RegistraCHAN @ Jul 22 2014, 10:06 AM) I ordered Warbotron Bruticus just to try it out.The first figure I received so far (Heavy Noisy) is quite disappointing for me. Plastic quality, engineering and transformation is nowhere near worth the price. I guess you have to evaluate these combiners as part of one big bot. And not so much as individuals... Takara Generations Roadbuster preorder reduced from RM13X to RM120 on x2otoys.
Tempted but ETA is November. So late. I might be wrong, but surely the Hasbro one will arrive sooner... |

Hopefully years from now, MP figures will look that good AND be able to transform.
But for now, MP10 is close enough. |

Sure, it doesn't look as good as 3p.
But at least we know the price won't be too crazy. And the quality should be consistent. |
