From Oh Tung Sang, they will provide the material. Here is the quotation, although this is not my final design.
I have to check again with SC lasercut, their aluminium plate seems cheaper by rm25, rest is the same, but they did not stated if material included. Thank you for reminding!

Yep, something similar like gon's, but gon's uses cnc milling, much harder process but better control on quality, hence the higher price.
*
You are only doing 60%?

If other sizes got or not?

EDIT: might wanna consider getting plates that can easily swap switch covers also.

Hi guys,

I'd like to build a custom mech keyboard. I wonder how is the process to "build" one? Is it hard?
*
How custom is custom.

I have teensy 2.0 and teensy++ 2.0 incoming. You interested then reply here la. Good things meant to be shared.

Like I said in the whatsapp... inconvenience fee is a good cup of coffee.. not more than RM 10.

Of course, you'll have to come visit me in Subang.

I also accept sacrifice/offering/gift of random curios, good stories and friendship.

Considering I have to bear the risk and everything, that's the least I'm asking for.

I'm thinking a custom like 0168257061 if not mistaken, the one with heart shape in the middle. Only to have a custom backlighting too. Not the ripple effect or such, just different lighting for different key
*
You'll need more than the teensy to do it... I'm not planning to venture into backlight ever, so I'm unsure how would the controller function. If you can figure out the software side of it, then the hardware is easy.

if u have enough money then most of the problem is settled. the DIY part is easy. anyhow, theres two types of custom, one is where u get the pcb, plate, case, switch and diodes and solder yourself. another type of custom is where u replace the pcb with a controller (much harder), for this u can refer to faridr's thread
*
His thread use a simple matrix and Hasu firmware... I plan to use Soarer's firmware, which is much easier to program and supports on-the-fly changes. Emphasis on easier to program because I'm a very physical DiY kind of guy and I can't figure out software code for the life of me.

Theere's mod for custom backlighting, someone did it. I stop reading at page 3 because ... rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
I never understand Soarer's firmware and how to use it. I did try it before, by loading the hex file and fire up teensy hid_listen.exe, but doesnt seem to be doing anything. Maybe it uses different wiring method or something?
*
For soarer's firmware you need to assign the sense and strobes to the pinouts before you use hid_listen. It's also easire to build/program than Hasu's firmware with similar (at least at my level) features as Hasu without the complications.

There is no hex file for soarer, just the firmware file only and then you're good to go.

EDIT: Just skimmed through the link you provided for the backlighting... I think it's overkill amount of work.

Sorry but I still didnt get it  tongue.gif
so assign sense and strobe inside config folder --> load up firmwaree --> hid_listen
is that it?

Yeah, too much work for LED effect, unless for someone with LED fetish
*
Nope. It's just a config text file.

What you do is to load the soarer firmware into the teensy.

Then, seperately, you build the controller file using a text editor.

Finally, you use a command line option (just one line only) in windows command prompt to compile and load it into the teensy.

Straight away can use.

If you want, I can try to upload my files and do screenshots for you to understand better, but that'll need to wait until I get home tonight.

I'm a broken man...

Things I haven't paid for (confirm need to buy):
1. Switches for my lightsaver v2.

Things I wanna pay for:
1. Dat link.
2. Switch harvest board. USD 40+ thanks to Aaron trying to outbid me, but at a certain point I buy from taobao also cheaper.
3. Switch plate. For... testing purposes.

So, my offer opens up again. Who wants to buy my slot for lightsaver and for my slot on the raindrop r2 gb can PM me if interested.

Why want to let go your master race tier keyboard?
*
Planning to go full custom with second pair of Ergodoxian/ergodox-like keyboard. Getting quote now from acryllic cutter to see how much I need to pain. In the end, it might be an extended/enlarged ergodoxian that can support my gaming habits. Maybe two more rows added on top of the keyboard.

QUOTE(yukihatsu @ Jun 12 2014, 02:35 PM)
I feel sorry for your wallet. sad.gif

Does anyone here have a pair of Ergodox keyboards? Is it really more comfortable (read: ergonomic) to type on?
*
Ergonomic? Definitely.
Comfort? Massively compared to my TKL.
Faster? Arguable, since I'm still learning how to use it fully. I'm still adjusting to the columnar layout instead of the stepped layout, and might be making another layout change tonight to make it similar to a ANSI shape.
Worth buying? Definitely.
Would I recommend it? Only if you're into customs.

QUOTE(Puteih @ Jun 12 2014, 03:00 PM)
do I really need to venture into the software part? I thought it would be just putting different coloured bulbs under each caps sweat.gif
*
Controlling the LEDs would be difficult, whatever controller you end up using.

Even if you put bulbs under the caps, you'll still need to consider things like power source, wiring, and PCB support, resistance (you don't wanna feed all that power into the LEDs and get blinded now, would you?). So yeah... that's about it.

I followed these instructions from geekhack. As you can probably see, it's a huge step simpler than hasu's work:

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=59068....3525#msg1353525

In the end, I have an excel worksheet to help me visualize the key locations and how I wanna deal with WYSIWYG issues.

Pretty neat stuff.

Macha, I wait for raindrop until drown macha... Very the sien already smile.gif

Lightsaver + raindrop = endgame pseudo-tkl.

Ergo + granite = endgame home unit.

Also, been thinking about making ZXCV my bottom row for left hand (B put on right hand) because it is similar shape to ANSI layout. My fingers keep pressing the wrong buttons when playing Doto.

If the price tickles my fancy, I would prefer the hakko rather than any soldering iron. Estimate time? Cant wait for too long now.

If you horny now then no go. Lightsaver just started production. ETA 2+ weeks after production will reach my doorstep, +1 week for assembly. So lead time is one month minimum stretch to 2 months.

I hope so too. If it arrives same time as my lightsaver then I will hngggghhhhhhh~~~~~~~

Kinda celibate right now, even if i order through taobao, still a 3 weeks to wait for shipping and stuff. So, period is not a matter, price then?
*
I'll sell Hakko to you at cost, throw in whatever Kestrel solder I have remaining at the time (it's at 85% remaining now, thanks to ergodox experiments) as a top-up.

I really have to warn you though, I will NEVER let go until my ergodox experiment is complete and my Lightsaver v2 is fully assembled.

Also pending my 1 or 2 completely customized from scratch keyboards.

zennasyndroxx I remember you said something about free pcb printing at your uni?  whistling.gif
So.... want to design your own pcb?  brows.gif
I found a complete pcb schematic for all the component ( cherry switches with different size + teensy), just put the component and make trace, I can give you the file if interested
Dem, that is much much much more easier. I miss the cmd line flashing step. Thank you  notworthy.gif
*
It's pretty easy, right?

I just leave the command line open while I use the keyboard, because you can change the mapping in 1 second.

QUOTE(amirinz @ Jun 13 2014, 11:29 AM)
Seems like that would be quiet a long time, considering that experimentation is not a fortnights time work. Ill just source another soldering iron then. Tetiba horny after you said that.  tongue.gif
*
Actually ergodox is pretty much completed, just that yesterday night one of the cable pins came out so I dulan and resolder the whole thing. I also filed my ergodox PCB a bit to make things smoother wink.gif

Need to print and go for either etching with acid (not sure whether if the term is correct) or go for UV.

Need to consult friend about this. so you want pcb? :3

Count me in also for another 2 ergodox PCB and one more TKL PCB. I'm REALLY serious bro, so don't disappoint me.

Just search for cherry in modules, already have pre-made modules

Why so hard? Just use phantom board and ergodox board from the GH repo. They have all the files ready.
