QUOTE(futra @ Apr 23 2014, 11:31 AM) That's the SADDEST part about it. I would proudly still call it Nokia whatever name is changed. Just imagine ppl ask what phone ure using, instead of saying 'Nokia' u'll say 'Oy' or 'Mobile Oy'.. or at least 'Microsoft Phone @ MS-Phone'.. You do realise that Microsoft didnt buy the ENTIRE Nokia company, just the mobile division. As part of the sale agreement, Nokia (the parent company) agree not to use Nokia branding on future mobile devices for the next 10 years. So in 2024, you could see nokia phones being sold again in shops worldwide. Microsoft are forced to change the Nokia name to Microsoft Mobile. Marketing people at microsoft are not stupid, they know the value of one of the most recognised name in the world. They just didnt have the option to stick with it. Same thing happened with acer back in the early 00's.

QUOTE(300thecat @ Apr 24 2014, 08:18 AM) What happened with Acer? O.o Acer bought the entire Texas Instruments mobile and personal computer department. The name might sound alien to youngsters but Texas Instruments was very big deal back in the 80-90s (my first laptop was a TI, it cost me RM16,000 with docking station). Same thing with Lenovo when they bought IBM computers business. Acer to date still uses Travelmate name and Lenovo still uses Thinkpad and Thinkcenter. So microsoft most likely will still use Lumia name for their phone lineup but they cant use Nokia brand.

QUOTE(Boldnut @ Apr 26 2014, 02:55 PM) they should have just buy the brand name as well and ask Nokia use other name. Nokia has a history of 150 years and Microsoft has around 50. I dont think they will give up the name as its the pride of Finland. Microsoft still want the support from their people too I think.

Microsoft still want the support from their people too I think. They can use the "Nokia" brand for 2 10 years. QUOTE “Microsoft will not be using Microsoft Mobile as a brand name for Nokia; the Lumia and Asha brands and products as well as rest of the Mobile Phone portfolio sold under the Nokia brand will be transferred to Microsoft as part of the transaction. This Nokia branded product portfolio will continue to receive full support from Microsoft. Nokia does continue to own and operate under the Nokia brand, but Microsoft has licensed the Nokia brand for Mobile Phones for 10 years, as well as for the purpose of marketing Nokia branded smart devices for a limited time.
Microsoft Mobile Oy is only the legal entity and Microsoft subsidiary to which the Nokia Devices and Services business was sold. The products and services acquired in the deal are now part of the Microsoft Devices Group, an expanded devices business that includes Lumia smartphones and tablets, Nokia mobile phones, Xbox hardware, Surface, Perceptive Pixel (PPI) products, and accessories. Any further decisions regarding specific branding will be made further down the road as part of the future integration.” Source from: Forbes

I don't find this really worth upgrading from my 920 and to be honest, I feels 920 is still considered a good WP8 phone to get for a new buyer except the availability is an issue.
Few things that really need to consider IMO; -lack of glance support -no cyan/yellow back cover -no expandable storage -lack of assertive display
which in short; 5" version of 1520 then I'll be really happy to upgrade

Totally agreed that its not worth changing my Lumia 920 for 930. I'm now considering Samsung Ativ SE - 5in OLED, removable battery, microsd & easy to install dual sim adapter for overseas traveling use. I'm pretty sure the price will be much cheaper than 930.
