I guess nowadays not many into DX lenses and some more 3rd party lenses are cheaper with pretty decent performance too.
Good find on the Oly 14-35mm f/2.0. But did you check the price and size / weight of that thing?

My 14-24mm f/2.8 is cheaper and about the same weight as the Oly 14-35mm f/2.0. So you want to put this on a small body?  sweat.gif

The thing is a lot of people jump into something without really checking out what they are getting into. Yeah, generally weight is lighter and size is smaller but you sacrifice quality which many don't see. If when you want to get back the quality and equivalent performance as your former DSLR, you're screwed with the weight and size of the lens and burns a hole in the pocket on the way.

BTW, the Oly 14-35mm f/2.0 equivalent in 35mm FX is 28-70mm while the 17-55mm f/2.8 equivalent in 35mm FX is 25.5-82.5mm. The Nikon is still wider and longer.  hmm.gif
*
why not consider the oly 12-40 f2.8 instead? what's the point of mounting a 4/3 lens onto a m4/3 lens and you need an adapter too to mount the 4/3 lens.

and sacrifice quality? how many people need the FF ness? using a larger sensor wont create a better photo. high iso also m43 lose like 1 stop or close to apsc, so what quality losing? DOF isn't everything in photography again, f2.8 in every picture doesn't mean better picture.

compare a em1 + 12-40 with a d7100 + 17-55. price wise they are close, size and weight? you decide yourself.

I really dont understand anything about my camera exposure even after reading so many articles! LOL!
I just cant understand

1)if i'm outdoors is there a default exposure i should set then adjust it from there onwards?

2)if suddenly the weather changes then it becomes alittle more cloudy what should i do?

3) how do you guys know what exposure is correct for the shot right away? or do you need to take a shot to know?
*
1 : no such thing as default exposure, setting a exposure totally depends on the scene, if it's bright or dark.

2 : reduce the amount of light coming in by speeding up shutter speed / decrease iso / close down the aperture.

3 : there's something called metering in your camera. the thing -2...-1...0...+1...+2 most of the time if it's 0 then the exposure is theorically correct. however in backlighted situation or any tricky lighting, it's best to take a test shot then adjust the exposure compensation.

oh..haha. okay. Bt i personally feel canon is better in overall. it may not have the excellent dynamic range, bt the colours seems to look better, and video is much much better at low light. the purple tinge in d610 at low light video really annoying. bt i still like d610 though. haha..well i cant compare i've nt used a canon 6d before..  sweat.gif

we use lenspen.

canon's biggest weakness is the dynamic range, if they manage to come out a new sensor (rumours saying the Foveon from Sigma which is crazy good) and 4k, then it will stay ahead from nikon already (sorry to say so).

how's the lens ar? at night performance? autofocus ok? sharp?
*
no complaints la for the price, 1.5k u get 70-200 f2.8.

night performance autofocus quite weak la, but it has no VC so i don't think many will use it at low light although the f2.8. in bright light quite fast actually, the noisy motor makes it look and sound slower. sharpness wise, i would say on par with canon 70-200 f2.8 IS or even better (based on my experience with the L lens for a day).

depends on your hand. Like myself having steady hands (since i shoot a lot of macro), i can shoot at 200mm with 1/60s and still get sharp shots.

it takes some time to fully understand a camera/ lens combo regarding the steadiest supporting point. once you know where to hold, it's quite easy to get sharp results. of course, your hands must not be too tiring if not you will never get steady result tongue.gif

damn ur hands so steady! u should be a surgeon haha.
isit? 105 at 1/500 shud be sharp d o? it's many times it's focal length. maybe bcz d800 too heavy..

but still la, not every day i can get results like that. find things to support are most recommended smile.gif

for example this shot was taken at 1/50, iso 3200 200mm and f2.8

I think I saw someone in forum selling Rm5850 only blink.gif it's Allen camera in something. quite cheap tho, little more expensive than the d600 when it first launched.

Anyone switched from FlickR to 500px?

Why so?

[PF T.J.] why do you have both accounts? tongue.gif

I have both too. Flickr is used as a image hosting site for instead of proper photography website, was using imageshack before until it fak up.

500px has a lot of awesome works and inspiration there, always visits to gain inspiration and new ideas.

Woah, didn't know about the bot thingy. I managed to get quite a few of my pics with rating of 90+ before, one of them even got 99.5 ( my famous hedgehog portrait). I did notice some bad pictures having high amount of rating though. I guess same thing happens on every website when it involves Likes/ Views as a standard of quality, deviantart is kinda the same.

so far good camera in market today, means worth for money;-
a) Canon 7dm2
b) Nikon D750
c) Sony mirror-less camera (A6000 & A7)

But im thinking towards mirror-less camera now.. probably all dslr soon will be mirrorless.
*
how possible it is for a DSLR to become mirrorless, the term DSLR itself stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex, which already means the camera will be having mirror to reflect light into focusing mechanism and viewfinder sweat.gif

there are many good cameras out there, not only 3 as you listed.

Hmmm, I think mirrorless cameras will surely become more popular among average users  hmm.gif
But I suppose DSLRs will still be around, mainly because they are much more comfortable to hold and use haha..
Even though I have a Fuji XT1 (which is supposed to be one of the more ergonomic ones), I still prefer using my Nikon DSLR by alot laugh.gif

Some more for macro work, current mirrorless bodies are too light- the whole system becomes imba laugh.gif And not having a proper optical viewfinder means its going to be extremely hard to see whether subjects are in focus or not huhu
*
DSLR will exist for a long time I think, just like even film is yesteryear technology, it still exist because there are some hardcore fans supporting it. same thing will happen to dslr, mirrorless still need some time to get 5D/ 1D kind of quality (not just image, but overall user experience/ stability/ lens choice and such).

QUOTE(goldfries @ Oct 30 2014, 08:39 PM)
about the video on switching brand - LOL on some points.

even more LOL to compare Sony A7S vs Nikon D4.

to me it's very simple - on lens image stabilization alone is enough a reason for me to stick to SLR and I don't like EVF.
*
QUOTE(goldfries @ Oct 30 2014, 09:15 PM)
Sony A7 series definitely has very good image quality, I wouldn't even doubt it one bit.

As for image stabilization - this part can go a bit lengthy. Sony's older line like Alpha SLT camera and NEX, and also mirrorless from other brands have sensor but they use stabilization on sensor so all lens used will be stabilized. Sony's A7 and newer NEX for example, does not have in-body stabilization but has OS on lens, which I think is better.

So which mirrorless? smile.gif You have to check.

About his D4S vs A7S comparison - one has to consider, the A7S does not come with weather seal and would very likely to fail when conditions are harsh. D4S was build like a tank.
*
He over exaggerated some points, but still his points are quite clear, he's saying things that matter to him anyways. I thought all A7 series cameras are weather sealed? I saw one landscape photographer using a7R for all his shots taken around sandy/ cold areas, the camera survived. compared to d4s, it might still not as tanky but we are comparing camera that's totally different league and pricepoint.

the EVF takes some time to get used to, you can notice some moire and drops in sharpness when you pan the camera around (at least on my olympus), but the exposure preview works really well, save you a lot of time from retaking shots with wrong exposure incase the metering failed in strong backlight or large white area. One big letdown is that when you turn to M and change settings for flash, you can't see anything on the EVF anymore until you try to focus where the camera lights up then darken again after getting focus.

for stabilization, why not on sensor stabilization? i never used sony SLT, but the stabilization on olympus cameras work like a charm. you get stabilization on every lens, even super wide angle or fisheye or telephoto like 300mm or 400mm. cons is it drains the battery a lot and the mechanism is quite noisy.

Flesh flies are often found along with blowflies though adults are much larger, faster and sensitive to its surroundings.

Flesh flies are known to develop embryo within the body and lay hatched maggots on suitable materials.

Can I know what's your usual working distance? I'm kinda struggling to go high magnification because of always scaring the bugs away, even worse when there's light modifier.

Yaya, though how near you really get for max magnification varies from lens to lens.
I used to shoot with a 50mm and 3x Extension Tubes, need to get super close and I often scare bugs away too huhu  cry.gif

If you are photographing considerably large subjects, try not to go for max magnification unless if you want to focus on a particular part of the body e.g. eyes. Otherwise the shot will mostly be worst (due to thin DOF) then a shot taken from a slightly farther distance and cropped laugh.gif I rejected a lot of my photos cause I always like to get higher magnification haihsss  doh.gif
*
looks like i really need a proper macro lens, the current 0.6x magnification from the oly 1240 doesn't satisfy me, I cant crop much from m4/3 also.

A gigantic Nephila antipodiana (easily 10cm) resting on its web which is covered with.. not dead leaves, but plenty of termite flies!

These Nephila spiders are some of the largest around (even the males can grow larger compared to other species) and build impressively large webs. The yellowish tints of the webs will "shine" in gold under the morning sun- thus the name!

If you take a closer look, there is a male N. antipodiana at the back of the female, and a sneaky food-stealing spider (Argyrodes flavescens) stealing a bite out of the host's preys.

Not much difference. If u really serious in photography, i recommend u getting a d7000. or a used d7000. even cheaper. save the extra bucks for good lenses like the 35mm or 50mm 1.8G.
d750 is the answer. almost similar price, bt it's a full frame.  thumbup.gif
*
not really, the d750 is more expensive than the 7D II. it's a lot slower in comparison too, since the 7D has AF across the whole frame, more fps. you just can't compare a crop with a full frame. quite sure the 7D's price will drop very soon as it's a little too expensive imo.

QUOTE(gunzerdude @ Nov 12 2014, 07:43 PM)
KLDSLR prices are at 5099 (7DII) and 5930(D750). At retail they are almost matched in price.

Give it some time, nikon prices drop really fast these days because nikon likes to update their bodies too much.
*
yeah, now the d600 is around 3k only, compared to how much it is 1 year ago is a big difference.

would be awesome to see that, but nikon doesn't seem like willing to join the fight? (the d700 successor was rumored for a long time until the d750 which isn't actually a d700 replacement, same thing with d300s).
