What "lack of place to shoot"? laugh.gif
In KL/PJ baru no place to shoot yo haha... some more might end up getting robbed or raped  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Here dangerous also eh, I don't dare go out shoot milky way, only did it once, have to ask whole bunch of friend to accompany rclxub.gif

Malaysia's crime rate too high liao. Wish I can stay in Japan, your gear put on the floor people also will pass to police cool2.gif
QUOTE(Darkripper @ May 6 2014, 09:05 PM)
Damn TRUE!!

Anyway, anyone here tried using Welding lenses to substitute ND Filter? The result looks interesting for long exposure photography, although it will produce a green cast that would be quitie easy to edit during PP.

Anyone tried with tinted glass before?

Also how is the performance of Cokin P series ND?
*
Never tried cokin P, but even with high grade glass like Lee's big stopper also will have color cast, mostly people convert to bnw also for their long exposures.

If you wanna use welding glass I think have to test out the exposure 1st lo, then maybe hold it with your hand? Probly no filter holder for it

Exposure should be okay after testing a few round, the problem is that how do we retain the colour and contrast of the real scene? Kinda lazy to PP too much.

Because i am using 77mm lens, and now i only found 3" by 4" max ( i need at least 4" by 4") for the welding lens after asking 5 hardware shop. Damn...

Btw do you have any nice spot to shot milky wave/ star trail? Kinda interested to try but need someone to go together, Sked kena midnight robbery T.T
*
Using these strong ND filters sure will have color cast 1 eh. But on web reviews they say the easiest to correct is the Lee's filter big stopper, since it only exhibits a blue cast, others are adjustable, just troublesome.

Sorry I'm from Miri, wouldn't know any spot in west malaysia, cant join u guys either cry.gif

But Lee price is way out of my league, considering the coking P series though.

Aww... Miri should have plenty of nice spot for night photography, what a good place!
*
Cokin P is good too, color cast is sort of like greenish magenta, bro NurAzam used it before while he was doing landscape

Nah Miri is as dangerous as the rest of Malaysia, crime rate here just sucks sad.gif Have to ask a few friends to accompany when going to shoot Milky Way the other day

Hi guys! I need opinions from nikon users here. I've been reading about nikon dslr in the web and learn the basic knowledge of using it (PSAM mode, composing, lenses, tip n tricks etc) and now i think im ready to do the practical part which is buying the camera and start shooting! Lol. I like to take pics of people, cats, potraits, street and maybe landscape/macro in future. I've never use dslr before, totally beginner. I got few questions that i need your honest opinions:

1. I've tight budget of rm1.5k (can add few hundreds if necessary) so i've narrow down to new D3200 and D5100 plus kitlens or secondhand D3100 plus extra lense and accesories. Which camera should i get as beginner? New D3200,D5100 or just use 1.5k to buy secondhand D3100+kitlens plus 2nd hand 35mm lens and few accesories if got balance, then shoot and learn kaw kaw until good enough to upgrade to new dslr body, which one should u guys suggest? Can 3100 produce IQ as good as d3200/5100?

2. If i'm consider to buy secondhand D3100, i MIGHT have balance money from 1.5k. Should i buy 2nd hand 35mm DX nikkor lens? Since i like to shoot potrait and people, i heard this lens can produce sharp image with good bokeh, am i right? Or do u guys have other lens or accesories that u guys want to suggest to finish 1.5k? Maybe 50mm or 85mm?

3. If u guys have rm1.5k plus minus, as a beginner, which choice would u buy?

Sorry for my england, dont know to english, lol! I've learned to retouch a few photos in lightroom and now cannot tahan to produce my own picture and process it,heheh!

Thank you in advance, hope sifus2 and nikon users here can help me to decide and support my new hobby! Yeay
*
Hmm, if I were you, with a really tight budget, I'll go with the cheapest option for the body, and get the best possible lens with the rest of the budget.

Learnt from the hard way, good lenses are good investment, value of camera body deteriorates fast, haha.

Good luck shopping smile.gif

Me no sifu but.. from a HDR view point, I think the picture is a bit overcook, the lines are a bit harsh, maybe too much clarity or sharpening, and the ghosting is a bit obvious too.

Just my 2 cents tongue.gif

Did some milky way shots last friday night when the night is clear, played around with some light trails and foreground element. Still too much light pollution nearby =.=''

I think this kind of shot is when a full frame sensor have a bit of its own advantage.

Thanks bro! =)

Hmm, I applied quite a bit of noise reduction to the picture, original picture is really noisy as well.

Let me see... shot at 12mm, f4, 15sec, 1600 iso with a tokina 12-24 f4 on a d7000.

I'm planning to upgrade to a lens with f1.4 aperture in the future and combo with a full frame dslr, can this freeze motion in the above situation without raising ISO or using flash?
*
It will be limited as well, if you limit yourself to 1.4, you won't be able to take picture of multiple people with the low dof, and a full frame sensor won't bring you any further I think, unless you go for d4/d4s, the max you can cap yourself is probably at 6400 or 12800iso..

But... for a single kid in motion, dark places, f2/f2.8, iso 6400/12800 should be enough to get a ss of above 1/125.

So the answer is yes, still cheaper to invest in a flash though... photo with enough light looks more interesting as well

Is there a specific time to capture milky way? or just anytime will do as long as it is in the night? icon_question.gif
*
Bro, download the app called Planets. Will be able to see exactly where the milky way is. Also can see when its rising up as well. Look for the part near Scorpio.

As for time, in Miri I prefer around 9.30-11. After that the Milky Way will be too high to include any foregrounds elements. Else the Mily Way will just be on the sky all night long.

lenses heavy agreed. but body small, helps a lot dy. Also not planning on getting heavy lens ... old dy...
Im sure there is a 17-55 ranged lens on mirrorless, didnt research, just decided to sell my lens only.

bringing dSLR around travelling is a chore. I want something small, something that wont attract attention of mall security biggrin.gif
*
Price is the reason I'm still sticking with dslr, nikon's 1.8g series good and light and cheap. haha

QUOTE(wkwong91 @ Jun 9 2014, 04:55 PM)
Bro, for Android or iOS? I saw many apps are using this name. Is from which developer?  icon_question.gif

Mine's the same as the rest, Planets and QContinuum developer.

Or Google Sky Map works as well, just that it won't show the milky way graphically, have to look for Scorpio.

Somehow I like to take sunset instead of sunrise, could be either i hate waking up early or maybe ... sunset is easier to grasp, cause can see the whole day's weather, haha
