QUOTE(jimlim007 @ Mar 30 2014, 02:44 PM) why not swap to Fuji XT Correct me if I'm mistaken but i believe the XT is in comparison with the E-M1. Price / cost factor as I don't really want to spend that much oh cameras and accessories... this year.

Been using DSLR for 2 years last time before I sold everything and switch to Olympus E-P3. Then last year upgraded myself to Olympus E-M1 No regret as i enjoy bringing out my camera with Olympus 12mm only almost to everywhere. The size is small enough though not pocketable. Sometime I mount with pana 20mm f1.7 too which is much smaller than my 12mm If you're looking for Macro lens, Olympus 60mm f2.8 is superb sharp. Take a look at Robin Wong blog and his macro photos using that lens. As for those who asking UWA lens for m43 format, as I know it is never easy to do wide angle lens for m43 due to size etc. But pana already got 7-14mm f4 (eqv to 14-28mm) and Olympus had 9-18mm (eqv to 18-36mm) f3.5-5.6. Olympus also announced next year they will launch 7-14mm f2.8, fully weather sealed lens. This post has been edited by jloi: Apr 2 2014, 04:20 PM

QUOTE(goldfries @ Apr 1 2014, 11:18 PM) how is that a weak point? you see how much a Nikon 16-35 F4 VR costs. that Nikkor is still quite new right? the problem with mirrorless is, they are still new to the market (okay m43 might be older, but still no where as old as DSLR), so new lenses are constantly getting launched and they need money for the R&D. so of course the price will be higher for SOME lenses compared to FF (DSLR) equivalent lens. some might argue it's not fair to do a comparison based on the lenses between different format but a m43 lens will always need less glass compared to FF since the area of sensor it needs to cover is a lot smaller.

If I was just going for photography I might have went mirrorless already.
Already knew DSLRs are big. I was very hesitant to buying the 650d back then and looking for all the reasons to get the Sony Nex. My main interest for the cameras are videos. Was very close to choosing the NEX but with many reviews about it overheating when shooting video continuously. I went back to choosing the Canon EOS system because so many youtube tutorials for that system. I'm a learner so might as well go for the system with the most free online learning resources. Didn't go for Nikon because their entry level DSLRs don't have PASM for video.
I was looking at Panasonic for video and it only had GH3 at that time. The lower end cameras of the m43s aren't that great for video and is not different from PNS cameras in this area. A lot of them lack PASM and controls for video. Native lenses are so horrible for manual focus too!
Mirrorless just isn't that great for video except for a few top end cameras. And I wasn't gonna risk investing on the NEX to find out if it does overheat easily and would be bad during an event.
Camcorders were considered but the ones that are good to pick up videography are like RM5K+. And the ones that have interchangeable lenses are above RM10K+. Its not surprising camcorders are not popular use anymore. Besides alot of well made videos on youtube are filmed by DSLR.
Now that the EOS M dropped price insanely its body is great for video. But its native lenses also suck at manual focus. The EOS M is a far better travel and casual camera than the 650d. But I will still use the 650d for times that need the external flash or using specialized lenses (because the EOS M feels very imbalance with DSLR lenses).

I agree . Both camera comes with benefit, and also weaknesses. As my personal experiences, i love my d7k when comes to big event, such as handle my own cousin marriage, sport or f1 event. I also love my nex5 when jejalan at kl, make a food review, portrait and selfie

The new upcoming Samyang lenses are totally covering UWA with mounts for all, especially for the mirrorless. 10mm F2.8 & 12mm F2.0 lenses. Dunno if they can take filters but the 14mm F2.8 couldn't so I'll assume they can't.
But hearing that 12mm F2.0 will have Canon EF-M mount. UWA at F2.0! Best indoor low light UWA for video.
Downside is they are manual lenses, but UWA doesn't need much focusing so not a big issue.

Getting Started

|
I converted from 5dmk2 to olym em-1 and never look back.
With 5dmk2, the camera and lenses only go out with me occasionally because it's bulky and heavy.
With em-1, the camera go out frequently.
I shoot more with em-1.
The better camera is the one that is always with you.

Future will be mirrorless rules once all lenses and accessories available greatly. at present day we left with a7 option from sony... sooner more and more players will in; dslr weight is a major draw back, in term of image quality its just getting better and better with newer sensor

Mirrorless cameras have become very popular because they are light and not too heavy on the pocket. Easy to bring along with you, good quality JPEG's out of the camera. To some having both a mirrorless camera and a Dslr (FF) gives them the option to shoot without thinking about the weight factor and using their Mirrorless camera on trips or holidays, without looking too intimidating..lol Fujifilm has quite a bit of followers and popularity is rising with their cameras.
The best way to pinpoint is Budget What are you going to use it for A camera is only as good as its owner..
I am sometimes using the pocket cameras more, am quite happy with them although i have Canon and Nikon Full Frames, due to portability and ease of use. Whenever i cycle , i tend to carry the pocket camera and stop to use it if i see anything interesting.
But i guess the ones who use their cameras on a Pro basis have lots to say...

But have to sell everything first haha.

Well I am at a crossroads now after reading all the posts here. Mirrorless or the smaller dslr like canon d100d. I use it mainly for social shooting but need fast lens. My dilemma is the mirrorless dont have much zoom lens and the dlsr are heavy and bulky. So really hesitant but need to decide soon cos got a big event coming. Sifus thots ?

I do admit there are almost none for the super tele range but how many of us will want to really lug a super telephoto and a heavy duty tripod on a social shooting? If need be, you can always convert from manual zooms.. but I will prefer to stick to prime on those range.. Anyway, zooms IQ can hardly match prime if we compare peer to peer (for fairness). The only issue with mirrorless which someone rightly pointed out is, dust easily get onto its sensors easily if you frequently change lens on the field.. but not really a big issue if you know how to deal with it..
