Well I am at a crossroads now after reading all the posts here. Mirrorless or the smaller dslr like canon d100d. I use it mainly for social shooting but need fast lens. My dilemma is the mirrorless dont have much zoom lens and the dlsr are heavy and bulky. So really hesitant but need to decide soon cos got a big event coming. Sifus thots ?

m43 system has a range of fast zoom lens for you to choose from, and they're way cheaper and smaller than DSLR lenses.

What kind of fast zoom lenses are you looking for?

Pana has the 12-35mm 2.8 (FF 24-70mm), 35-100mm f2.8 (FF 70-200mm equivalent), 100-300mm f4-5.6 (FF 200-600mm equivalent)

Oly has the 12-40mm f2.8 PRO (FF 24-80mm equivalent) and will be bringing in the 40-150mm f2.8 PRO next year too (FF 80-300mm equivalent)

what's the point of getting a "small" DSLR body when the lenses themselves are just the same, large, bulky ones? they'll be just as heavy and look weird as hell, to say the least

Thanks to the sifus that replied. Sorry I should have made my queries clearer before. As I will be using this for travel and jalan-jalan shooting, with dslr I would be looking at 18-135/200(max). This sort of lenses are still not common for the m43. I know the quality is not good but to bring a couple of lenses for travel with kids, its quite cumbersome. I can live with the lack of quality but the weight, is a back killer! I might just settle for the oly m10

The Sony NEX/E Mount system has a Sony 18-200mm lens in their line up. That Sony E-mount also has a third party Tamron 18-200mm lens too. Too bad Tamron doesn't have this 18-200 lens mount for other mirrorless brands.

And Panasonic has the 14-140mm for the M43 system.

thank you sifus. You all poison kau kau! the 35-100 is quite big. Was hoping to get the oly body only and buy the 12-40 and then later get something longer. but the 12-40 is like 3k!! so stick to kit 14-24 and then later look for something longer. Hopefully later will have a one like 14-60/100

just be fully aware of the crop factor.. 4/3 is x2 and Sony APSC is x1.5 unless you want the FF then it is x1.. One advantage over APSC is its sensor is bigger giving you a different effect.. Do your homework objectively and not go diehard approach.. unless you already has a base lens system. but more important, the camera feel good on your hands. I recently upgraded from Sony NEX5N to A6000. It is quite a significant jump in image quality..
