Buy when you need, wait if you can nod.gif The Y50 is very tempting laugh.gif
Personally I think you can't really expect a laptop that offers the best bang-for-buck to perform miraculously in terms of cooling  hmm.gif

Hardcore gaming notebooks are expensive, thick and heavy just so they can handle the heat dissipation  hmm.gif

I think the Illegear RE-15/17 should perform relatively better in terms of cooling, but those are around Rm4k range already  sad.gif

Looking for a notebook for students.
Brand: Reliable and easy to maintain
Price: Max RM 2.5k
Screen: 14 to 15.6
Uses: Mostly surfing but might occasionally play mid-range games.
Try to have a unsoldered GPU and CPU.

I did gave some serious thoughts but then again Y50 is coming.

Is this lenovo ok for 12 hours long usage for work, i scared the heat from the graphic cards will lower its lifespan of the machine. Though if the GTX800 series is cooler.

Any other better options? looks like have to wait for y50

Currently only MSI has updated their range of G-series notebooks with the 800M series of GPU. (correct me if i'm wrong cause i only based on my last survey of PIKOM PC Fair in April)

If your price range is 2.5k then should be their GP series but based on feedback from others in the forum, most suggest investing in the GE60 as there are more upgrade options and features.

You won't find any notebook with unsoldered GPU and CPU at your budget range unfortunately
I don't think you will be able to find a notebook that's easy to maintain as well

To be honest, most people don't really care about that 0.2kg difference haha laugh.gif
Different sources are giving different weights so we are not sure as well nod.gif

The one with GT820M is the newer version, go for those instead  nod.gif

Then I need to do more lifting LOL

What do you think of

Acer Aspire V5-473PG-54204G50 14"
Intel® Core™ i5-4200U-1.6GHz | 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB SATA HDD | NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M | est 8 hours battery

If i read it also says: OB 4GB x 1 upgradable to OB 4GB + 8GB x 1

Is Acer brand ok?
Any brands that are not recommended?

Thanks a lot! biggrin.gif

Need help in replacing my old laptop (4+ year old ASUS K40AB)... any decent laptops that are within/below RM2300 range, has the following spec list:

- 4th Gen Intel Core i5 CPU or better
- 4GB DDR3 RAM or more
- Nvidia GeForce GT740M GPU (found out it's still slightly better than the 840M GPU)
- 500GB or bigger HDD
- 14.0-inch display (15.6-in ones are heavy)
- at least Win 8 Single Language OS preinstalled or no OS.

Gonna get one as my secondary gaming station, of course playing at Low-Medium settings for most of my games. Will appreciate of helping me out.

The M... The U series CPUs are low voltage CPUs which has a weaker performance, in order to boost battery life. icon_idea.gif
Also, define medium gaming? Gaming laptops can be very expensive... (IMHO a proper one would cost >RM3.5K)...
