I don't remember how Redang was like 8 years ago. laugh.gif

I quite like Tioman, coral bleaching here and there though. The last I went to Lang Tengah was about 3 years ago, corals were not bad.
*
Redang was colourful & alive back then. Now it's either black or white with all the developments going on >_<

Corals started to bleach and some of them already wipe out d...
More and more titan spawning in that area. But I'm still enjoy the beaches there...

Lang Tengah a lot of Giant Clam [last visit 2009].

Try Tenggol or Tioman if you wanna see beautiful corals...

Tioman - Tiger Reef, Kg Genting House Reef, Pulau Renggis..
Tenggol - a lot of Nudi, Whaleshark (seasonal)
Perhentian - Tokong Laut, T3, Coral Garden (many bumphead)
*
From your description, seems like Tioman & Perhentian is still ok lol. I'll probably try Perhentian then.

QUOTE(DrBarbarian @ Apr 10 2014, 09:54 AM)
huge difference! I started going to east coast islands since the mid 90s.... there's significant difference in coral health, visibility and marine life......with the amount of snorkelers and divers now, I think east coast gonna be similar to the current dive quality in west coast in 10 years time....

So better go explore all ASAP before everything is gone there hehe.

hahaha...

I will choose Tenggol > Tioman > Perhentian

Perhentian got one spot, I pretty enjoy is the Sugar Wreck. Last year when I heard, those owner (Thai) wanna take back their wreck (not sure how true isit?!) And many local DC object and drama went on and on...

In sugar wreck, beside sea urchin, there are a lot of stuff to spot! Marine life is very crowded. You may do many penetration inside the ship. Printer on the ground etc. Some time if u lucky, you may see whale shark passed by...

Now this is really some challenge brows.gif I love the attention to detail they gave to the kid's puzzle!

QUOTE
THE TEST CIRCUIT
The obstacle course was largely based around the Diamond Reef system, which uses a series of plastic diamond-shaped frames as a reference point for buoyancy-control training and assessment. The assessed part of the challenge consisted of eight underwater tests:

1 DESCEND AND HOVER FOR 1 MINUTE
A frame was set up at 4.5m, the object to position one's body in the centre and hover without touching the frame, simulating a deco or safety stop. The safety divers measured the minute.

2 HIGH-LOW-MID-DEPTH TUNNEL
Three diamonds were arranged at different depths to form an undulating tunnel, simulating swimming through a cave, wreck or over a reef.

3 SKITTLE BOX
Four skittles were placed at the corners of a square. The diver descends into the square, lies on the bottom, then rises - all without displacing skittles by contact or fin-wash. This simulates dropping into a confined space, as when taking a photo.

4 KID'S PUZZLE
While holding position in the same frame as the 1min hover, the divers had to complete a suspended puzzle. This task involves inserting a plastic shape from a bag in the matching hole in a box and is suitable for 3 months and up - easy! It introduces task-loading and simulates taking a photo or manipulating equipment such as a delayed SMB midwater. Using a toy overcomes the fact that some divers may be more familiar than others with certain types of equipment. The slightly buoyant toy was suspended by a lightly weighted line just below the centre of the frame, such that it couldn't be used as a handhold.

5 SWIM-THROUGH TUNNEL
Three diamonds formed a tunnel of constant depth to simulate swimming through a cave, wreck or along a reef.

6 WEIGHTED GOODY BAG THROUGH TUNNEL
A goody bag had to be carried through the constant-depth tunnel to simulate the buoyancy effects of picking something up, such as a camera or artefact. It contained 4kg of weight.

7 REEL THROUGH TUNNEL
A line had to be paid out while swimming through the constant-depth tunnel. This simulates line-laying in a wreck or cave, or for a search pattern in open water, and increases task-loading.

8 45-SECOND ASCENT
Ascend to the surface from the 6m bottom without using instruments. This tests time-appreciation and simulates loss or failure of a dive computer.

It's a commercial vessel, so it doesn't make sense for the owners to conduct an expensive salvage operation to get ... rusty scrap metal.

At this rate, I'll probably continuously go back to Tenggol & explore different sites each time lol.

I do feel the fishes there is a bit lacking but I was told that it's because I went at the end of the monsoon, so the marine life & all is still recovering. But still I'm happy to be able to see giant lobsters, grouper, string rays & black tips....those are the ones I consider unique la, the typical coral fishes like trigger, clown, puffer etc boring de cause I felt everywhere also got.

Funny thing is the fishes in Tenggol don't eat breads ahahaha.....
