When the needle is pointing straight up (~70-90kmh) that's the most efficient spot.

Should be engine rpm at 2000-2500, correct me if I'm wrong.

just 1/2 complete my school holiday journey from Sg Petani to JB and turn back to N9..

Using Toyota Avanza 1.5G Auto (just change engine oil before travelling, used Lexus Oil Fully Sintetik)
also just change to new tyre 4pcs .. 195/60 R15
Loaded with 2 adult & 2 children...

mileage start (Sg Petani) = 49430km
mileage end  (Senawang) = 51022km

Total mileage = 1592km
Total fuel =RM210 (3x pump full tank) RM70 per full tank
Use RON95

Average speed = 100-120km/h (mostly below 110km/h)
Driving condition= Highway = 65%      City = 35%
so.. Is my FC is good, average or terrible..
Please somebody tell me..TQ

Now I know Toyota's good FC is pure marketing gimmick... Lucky never fall in to their trap....

No no no... Toyota SA told me that 1.5 Avanza G can give at least 18km/l when I visited their show room....

Well, when some SA wants to secure a business, anything including cheating they will do... Only never think they will talk like this... I from start till now never believes that Toyota's VVTi or Honda's VTEC can safe petrol if compare to other brands. Any car with RPM <3000 and constant speed sure the FC will be superior but then how many roads in Malaysia can gives us such condition? Just like I'm going to work from Seremban to PD, I can always pay rm3.20 toll to get my FC 16km/l from my current 13.5km/l when driving on coastal roads.

Nowadays manufacturers quote a few different consumption figures so buyers can make their own judgments, i.e., urban, extra urban and combined. It's always good to see the urban figures cos that's the most typical figures that ppl living and working in the city will get.

Over my 20yrs of driving I've also learnt another common misconception, that higher revs at top gear means higher consumption. It really depends on engine size and gear ratios for any given car weight.

Example: A 1-litre Kelisa doing 3.3k rpm at 100km/h vs an Accord 2-litre doing 1.9k rpm at 100km/h. It doesn't mean that the Kelisa is burning more fuel, on the contrary it's actually burning less due to the smaller displacement:

http://www.stealth316.com/2-air-fuel-flow.htm  This website lets you calculate roughly how much fuel is used at any given rpm/cubic capacity of an engine.

Based on the site, a 1,000cc car doing 3.3k rpm is burning around 216.17cc of fuel per minute. A 2,000cc car doing 1.9k rpm will burn around 248.93cc/min
*
Well, if everyone like you, for sure more people won't be that easily got cheated.... If you read the ads, they always state 90km/h constant at straight road. Did they state speed at 110km/h and on climbing up hills? Because they know a fact, no car will be efficient on this.

If buying a car = rob a bank
Then buying a hybrid = steal from bank
Is still wrong anyway, if considering polluting the enviroment by releasing CO2.
Like Civic Hybrid, it only registers 1.3 on engine capacity but actual 1.8 because the power pack contributes another 500cc. Then Honda compare their Hybrid's emissions to other unefficeint 1.8 engines. For sure Civic Hybrid wins.. But did they compare it with 1.3 engines?
But then people now are educated such that wasting rm1000 to safe rm0.10 is right.... So.....

That's means your skill are questionable....
Buying a fuel efficient car but without good driving habits will result to poor FC....

Some simple mods(plug cable and plug), extractor and removing the catalytic convertor can help improve the FC, if your skill are ok.... Also pump your tyre slightly higher pressure(5-10kpa from norm), your car will be "lighter"....
If do the above, can give you 2-10%
Fuel saver won't help, most of the time... But injection cleaner can help, not much, maybe 2-5%.....
Reseting ECU won't help..... It just to fullfill your expectations.

^All you need is rm800(rm400 for 4 times service) per year and you are good to go.... Rm400 is for you to change gear oil, brake fluid, brake pad....

Added on January 17, 2011, 8:17 pmBTW, rm400 is the minimum you must spend... If got other parts going to fail, that also you must change.... Today just strike my brake pump's gasket failed....

If your fuel tank is rectangle then you can say the above calculations are wrong, else, that's the best method to calculate...

VIOS E 1.5 2009
petrol used: RON95
mileage thus far: 20000++ km
FC:  consistently around 11.5 km/L
driving condition: 100% stop-go city driving, routine of 10+ km per day travels with average of 10 traffic lights (Typical Melaka roads flooded with many traffic lights)

On 100% highway it can reach 15km/L to 16km/L!
*
Wow, 2 years Toyota that boast that very good fuel efficiencies can get 11.5km...
My balia 8 year old car that never boast about this can give me 13.5-15km/l with total of 15 traffic lights... Lucky I never trust what Toyota always boast about....

Quite ok I would say.... Get the injection system cleaned 1 time and it will improve a bit to 15-16km/l. Or can try using 3M(~rm18-20) or Wynn's(~rm30-35) fuel injecion cleaner.

For me, regular service is a must on brakes, GB and engine.
Some mods on my Wira :
9.5mm spark plug cable
Bosch Super 4 spark plugs (can be used till 50-70kkm)
add fuel injection cleaner once every 2000km or earlier if your exhuast got strong carbon or wax smell during morning cold start. A rm3 alcohol from hardware shop also can do the trick. But if worry, just use the fuel injection cleaner.
bypass the catalytic convertor and change the extractor(not that effective)
