say hi to everyone here first  smile.gif  im an iphone user since iphone 3G era and finally decided to jump ship to android, sold my 4S yesterday.  rclxms.gif  will need a lot of help when my nexus arrive n when i wanna root it n so on, hv totally zero knowledge about android.  blush.gif
*
Since you're from iOS, you need to familiar yourself with Android ecosystem tongue.gif
Make sure before attempting anything (root, flash), ALWAYS READ INSTRUCTIONS provided by the OP.
If you planning to root, I suggest you unlock it right after you get it since unlocking will wipe your phone.

So now since you got time (before your phone arrives), go do some reading on what are rooting, flashing, roms, kernels, etc, etc. First page got some links for reading too biggrin.gif or head on to Nexus 5 @ forum.xda-developers and do some reading.

Happy learning. And have fun thumbup.gif

Btw, anyone can recommend good SP? not glass SP please. Good ol' plastic sp. Dry or wet is no matter.
Read a lot in xda. But skeptical at some cause some say good, some say bad.
Post any experience of any SP you used before. TQ ~

finish reading the site provided by NightFelix so kinda understand most of it now. so basically before i root my phone, i have to unlock the bootloader to install the recovery which can be use to backup and everything. after that i have to select a rom and flash it, some rom come pre rooted and some dont. if i choose those tht come pre rooted, my phone will b root after flashing the room. is my summary right?
*
rclxms.gif
ROMs are optional. You can stick to stock and root. Custom ROM provide more features than stock. But if you want to stick to stock but want features, you can install xposed (study this too) biggrin.gif
Custom kernels may provide better battery+performance than stock kernel.

Now go study more: EFS backup (This is important), nandroid backup, [how-to] adb laugh.gif

Going to flash my first custom rom tonight. Can suggest me a good pair of rom and kernel? Preferred battery saving.

Is this ROM good enough?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2655722
*
Wow.
So much features that I won't use laugh.gif

But it depends on your preferences. If you like the features that the ROM offers, go ahead.
You have the option in experimenting with different ROMs and choose the one that suits you best nod.gif

Edit: Sorry totally missed your question. Can suggest me a good pair of rom and kernel? Preferred battery saving.
It depends on your usage. I'm having great battery life with Cataclysm + faux. Go on and experiment.

i use both maxis and umobile...both on prepaid

umobile = UMI38 (only support LTE) 1gb ,150minute, 50sms

maxis = RM30 , 1gb, no free call or sms

when umobile reach quota , my speed reduce drasticly to 0.12kbps. only can whatsapp cant even google super slow

but on maxis my speed after reach quota is 7mbps~14mbps. still can youtube, still can spotify

rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
btw umobile share line with maxis

digi share with celcom
*
I did not subscribe the LTE plan. (I'm on E28 so no LTE..boo UMobile)
But after my 1GB quota I still get roughly ~4mbps, according to speedtest app. Still can spotify also hmm.gif

what's the best custom rom for nexus 5 now? just upgraded from nexus 4
*
No such thing as "best" in android development.
Recommendation is a more suitable request. I've been on Cataclysm since day 1 on my N5, so far I'm satisfied with it.
I have Slimkat 3.4 on my S2 so it's good as well.
I have Carbon on my N7 so that is also a plus.

Go test/experiment with your phone and see it for yourself.

Questions!

1. Do you guys use ROM manager to flash roms and manage your roms? Why, and why not?

2. Does restore stock ROM from custom recovery restore stock kernel? does flashing a stock ROM do the same as well? if not, how to restore stock kernel after flashing a custom kernel?
*
1. Nope. Just use custom recovery to flash and do backups. I don't see the necessity in using rom manager when the recovery can do it.

2. Restore/Flashing stock rom will restore stock kernel.

And make sure pick the right one based on ur caf/aosp based rom biggrin.gif
