I decided to create a thread that is productive just for widescreen monitor users, be it lcd or crt, or even crt tv. As long as its widescreen ratio, blush.gif thumbup.gif

The aim is to help and share experience, guides ,tips among users, and create awarness on behalf of widescreen benefits or maybe cons, if there are any.

Here's goes

Faqs and usefull sites for widescreen users

1. http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/...title=Main_Page
2. http://www.widescreenbabes.com/
3. http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/mpages/widescreen1.shtml
4. http://www.hardforum.com/
5. http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...e+Multi-Patcher
(Vista theme mod, that require little system resources)
6. http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/index.php

Application that can takes the benefit of widescreen display

1. Adobe Series
2. Microsoft office ( run several spreadsheet a time, etc)
3. Powerdvd/Windvd
4. Bs player (divx, etc)
5. New pc games ( counter-strike, quake 4, age of empire 3,etc)
6. Internet explorer (browse with dual browsers, vertically)
7. CDisplay ( to view dual pictures vertically, nice for comic scans)
8. VMware (run a virtual pc/desktop, for debug, dual platform networking, etc)
9. Ave desk (ultra low resource required dock like stardock, but its free and fast)
10. Rklauncher (same as ave desk, but a shortcut bar instead)

Here's some simple guides and infos I can cook up suppose to includes list of games that support widescreen rez natively and some tat don't, but tat one need some time to compile a list, which is quite a lot.

So any things u guys want to share or ask regarding widescreen can post here, I can try my best to help if possible and others will too I hope.

So , welcome and enjoy your stay guys.....official widescreen club is launch huraay~!!

Benefits of a widescreen monitor (from first hand experience with a 19" normal aspect ratio CRT vs a 24" widescreen LCD):

- You have more to see in games, thus you may have an advantage in many games like Counter-Strike: Source

- You can place two apps side-by-side like a webpage tutorial and Adobe Photoshop, and you don't need to constantly refer back to the other page

- Like above, you can watch a movie or TV episode while surfing the internet at the side

- Human vision is more akin to 16:10 than it is 4:3

- More desktop space pixelwise when comparing same-size models (1680 x 1050 compared to 1280 x 1024)

No more missing scence at both side or Darken Edge at Top and Bottom ...

With my Xi - Fi ... haha ... My computer is better than My home 29' home theater ...

Anyway ... while serving website .. if put full screen ... some page "cacat one" because they only set them to "1024X768" or "800X600" .... either it come to the midle or side , left one side empty ..

most of the latest games can support widescreen. For games not supported you have hacks for them. Get them at www.widescreengamingforum.com.

welp, ppl get wide because, they want wide. not the size. of course, that's preference. you cant compare 20" normal with 20" wide. to get 20" 4:3, it is better off to get 24" wide. cool.gif

FEAR and NFSMW...no. you need to hack it. it is easier for FEAR, just edit the settings.cfg file, as for NFS, u need a hack software + camera hack. EA has been long outdated without supporting wide. Monolith has learned from FEAR and they implemented wide support for Condemned:Criminal Origins. the game is already wide, those 4:3 monitors will display black bars, while widescreen also has black bar, just that it is smaller, looks more natural. thumbup.gif

Are you sure there are black bars? To my knowledge from the 20 or so games I've installed that don't have native widescreen resolution and no quick fix, the image just gets stretched to fit the entire screen.
