QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jul 13 2014, 04:34 PM) i just realized that u were refering to media playback with xbmc, not live streaming... Boss the media playback I able to run at 1080p without jerk. I selected audio pass through to release the burden of audio processing from himedia and pass it to my receiver. I found that it support dts but not dts ma. Still some room for improvement therea user reported no improvement for media playback but i guess u can try, perhaps respond and share result here: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1849024/+880 post #899-902 |

QUOTE(cosmicmeadow @ Jul 21 2014, 10:13 PM) The only device that can passthrough DTS HDMA or Dolby TrueHD via XBMC is a PC. HiMedia = android boxes can dude.. it comes with a native player that allow DTS HDMA and TrueHD to passthru it without glitchesRaspberry cannot. Apple TV cannot. Mac cannot. Android boxes cannot. Any others? |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jul 21 2014, 10:51 PM) you are right boss.. anyhow i feel the PQ is better on XBMC but i am not sure if that is my bias or I think if they do not have the copyrighted issue they might improve it on XBMC so that we can enjoy this feature in the future release.. |

QUOTE(powerwoot @ Jul 22 2014, 09:36 AM) I am an extreme noob here about passthrough audio, all the while as long I am able to hear it correctly, it is ok. mind telling me what is passthrough is all about, thanks. i try to explain in layman termspassthrough is asking the media player not to process (can be tv, android box, apple tv). Audio from your media source (movie) are encoded. Normally it will be encoded into DTS or Dobly format. If we select passthru media player will pass it to the next target (for eg your AV receiver/TV/Soundbar) for decoding. if not then it will process the decoding itself Why is this matter? This matter then you have a quality receiver that you are connecting to. In this case i do not want my media player to decode the sound i wan my receiver to decode this. another pro point here is we can reduce the job for the media player. Working to output 1080p video will create certain stress to the player already. If we still ask the player to process high quality audio, if your player is not good enough it will give you non-smooth movie playing. The target here is to get the best possible experience from the quality media source that you are trying to play. |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Oct 14 2014, 12:59 PM) like to explore a bit on this crackling sound thingy... actually we can have a lot of variety depends on the model of ur TV and AVR. My case i am using type 3. My TV and AVR support ARC. in my case... 1. in setting-systems-audio, default is passthru deactivated, dd/dts deactivated. with that, only stereo sound, whether hdmi to tv to avr. enable pass thru, activate dd and dts: 2. if hdmi connected to tv, digital audio to avr, the tv sound cracks but avr delivers normal dd/dts. 3. if hdmi connected to avr, avr to tv, no cracking. i like 2. since i dun wish to power on avr as in case 3 all the time as many files are just 2.0 and few dd/dts these days. but this gives cracking sound when i want to play a file that is dd/dts. so, end up set to 1 normally. this has been the case for a long time, frodo or gotham. spmc does not help, same result. is there a way to set 2, but no cracking sound (other then turning tv vol to zero) like playback a file from usb? can you or anyone shed some like on this? thanks. I will connect my media player to AVR and my AVR support 'off mode' pass thru. In this case my AVR will be sleeping mode and the signal still able to reach my TV i will still able to get video and audio. I also found that if you are using type 2, my tv will not able to deliver DTS-MA or Dobly-TrueHD to my AVR as my tv doesn't support this encoding it will downgrade to normal DTS or Dobly by my TV before reaching AVR. |
