HI all,

Has anyone used MiBox supported by KODI before?
Found a seller below:
mibox kodi

And I'm quite interested with it.

Please let me know if there's any issue with this box/mod so that I can start looking for others. (Completely clueless in this area)

Bro, Android boxes are kind of all the same using similar kind of chipsets and most of the seller sell their Android boxes for Kodi (At least that's how they always advertise) If your only use is to run Kodi to watch Movies, Dramas and Live channels then i would suggest better go with RPI2 as that's more stable and performance is also better.

May I know where I can get RPI2?
Was also looking at HiMedia Q2, Q3 & Q5 as recommended by other forumers - do let me know where I can get the box that has RPI2.

Thanks!

Bro frankly building & setting up RPI2 is not very difficult and if you install OSMC or OpenElec then once installed these will even do auto update whenever new software is available.
Otherwise the only Android box i like and currently using as well is Amazon FireTV but again maintaining, running Kodi on Amazon FireTV is not that easy....
May be you can try Minx media player you may like it as Minx do have their own tweaked version of Kodi running on their Android Devices.
Else you can try the followings, ready to use Kodi/OpenElec/OSMC boxes but they will cost you more than RPI2 (actually you can buy 2 RPI 2 in the same price smile.gif )

Kodi: Cubox TV http://cuboxtv.com
OpenElec: WeTek http://webshop.openelec.tv
OSMC: Vero https://osmc.tv/product/vero/

Vero is the most expensive one and for each one of them you have to place an order online and wait for delivery.... currently there's no local vendor who is selling something similar which runs Kodi/OpenElec/OSMC out of box as native OS/media player.

everyone went thru a period of learning, from ground zero, so yr concerns are real.
i understand becos i went thru all that last yr.

u need to come to terms with these critical factors:
.. r u the "astro type" - push buttons only or willing to spend time to make a device work properly and maintain it?
.. do u want ENGLISH only or other languages?

specifically, if himedia, u will be better off with Q16 unless yr budget is too low.

this is a kodi thread, i do not wish to derail it with device selection matters. u can visit:

androidtv box:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3126605/+420
himedia:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1849024/+1280
*
For my case - I am the type that would wanna just bring it home ... plug it into my TV and start watching. I understand that most ready-to-use box are in Chinese interface whereas the shows will be in English. I am perfectly fine with that.

So to answer your questions, I just wanna push buttons. I do not mind increasing my budget if I can get a better box like the Q16 if there's a valid reason to pick it over the Q1/3/5/etc.

Is buying locally is also important or you ok to buy online and wait few days for delivery?
*
Of course prefer to buy locally where I can get support easily or at least CALL the person for quick troubleshoot if a problem occurs.
I have not used these boxes before but seeing there's so many firmware updates / patches / etc ... I do think that it can get quite tedious if the stuff suddenly stops working.

Well in such a case go to this link and visit this shop https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1462384 they have most variety of different android devices available to them locally. Almost every brand you can find there, you can take your pick ....
I like this seller also cuz at least in my case i have bought the player and they easily let you change within reasons if you can show to them why you want to change...Will entertain you to demo every product in detail and help you understand... most sellers don't do all this.
Though i think Minx is still better than HiMedia and few others.
Rest it's your choice.

Thanks for the directory, will definitely be in touch with the buyer on the suitable models.

That is the seller that recommended me to go with HiMedia biggrin.gif

Should I opt for a Minx unit instead? smile.gif

there are many links for many devices, many sellers. some hv great reputation, some less so. some disappear after selling. u can dig deeper into some of the threads, u will find many horror stories. biggrin.gif

check this one too for seller of himedia and minix models, ask questions.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3201002/+780

2 things i wish to reiterate:

- androids are changing very quickly. 1 yr old is quite old, 2 yrs old is almost obsolete.
- if u r not going to be hands on too much, u will definitely need good support - make sure u r convinced u will get all the help u need!

all the best. wink.gif

Hello, have spoken to few of the LYN sellers and have come to the conclusion of either of the following device:

1. HiMedia Q16
Advantage - Dedicated app - HiTV to watch more Asian Dramas/Movies

2. Minix H8
Advantage - XBMC a.k.a KODI (seller also mentioned that theres apk to install to watch asian dramas/movies on H8)

Honestly, to me the advantages does not make much of an impact because I won't tinker around with it.
I just wanna turn it on and watch. Home internet will be TIME Unlimited 10mbps Fibre Broadband.

Price wise, HiMedia is cheaper than Minx by at least RM100.

With those in mind, can you recommend me one that I should go for?

Anyone experience the problem where video playback will very often have no sound? I have to pause / play (repeat process) until I get sound, which will drop off after 10 minutes or so.

Another issue is a lot of add-ons are incompatible, kept showing the "Do I want to disable the add-on" error ... On first start, I will usually get about 10 ~ 15 of these popups.

Need more info to help narrow down a solution.. Like:
What device?
KODI version? Custom or stock?
If recently upgraded.. How?
Did you install each addons yourself? Retrace steps..
Tried a fresh install or version rollback?

The sound issues is a bit weird.. Using passthrough options? How about connections? Ruled out file's audio issues or hardware & codec incompatibility? No issues using another player? All files gives the same issue or a particular one? Give more info.. Else.. Simply do a complete uninstall, search system for leftovers & delete manually.. Then reinstall stock versions. Starting with the latest: Jarvis, test and if still has issues, work your way down versions.

TV Box - Himedia H8 (OctaCore) - Bought it from a forumer on LYN.

Recently did a fresh install of Isengard

First time - Had the red mute icon on the top right. Uninstalled and reinstalled, the icon was gone. As for add-ons, I've actually downloaded like a zip folder where I just copy/paste all the add-ons in. Link / file shared by the seller.

Connection is sound bar -> HDMI -> TV. Every other apps such as Popcorn / Newest Movie HD are fine with no issues with the sound at all. Only Kodi/XMBC has such issue. When I first got the box, Kodi worked perfectly until I had to reinstall because video playback would suddenly just stop and bounce me back to the selection menu.

So now, the videos won't suddenly stop and bounce me back to the selection menu but instead - videos will just have no sound, which is really annoying. I can try to do a reinstall again but I figured the result will be the same, it might be the add-ons that I installed through the seller's link, lots of incompatible add-ons. Keep getting pop-up saying add on is not compatible, should I deactivate it etc.

Otherwise, can I just do a clean install and install the add-on 1 by 1 myself through XBMC?

i think yr fresh install of isengard cum copy and paste of "zipped addons" is the cause of the incompatibility related problemd.

copy and paste the whole org.xbmc.kodi folder is fine but copy and paste addons..? i have not tried this method.

i suggest u wipe everything clean, reinstall 16.0 jarvis. then put in the repos and addons one by one manually - they will be fresh, updated and compatible with jarvis.

yes, it is a pain to do all that. so, once u get it right, make sure u use es file explorer keep a copy of the org.xbmc.kodi folder in case u need to reinstall again.

Nice of you to provide more info.. Much clearer picture.. I'd go with what AVFAN wrote.. KODI on its own is rock solid, where issues begin are with addon installations & tweaks.. While most addons are written properly, many others aren't or are obsolete, hence incompatibility issues. Hence, it's always best to manually install each skin or addon, and tweak settings. That way, one knows exactly what went in and when, so should an issue occur, it's easier to detect & rollback changes. Oh yeah, make regular backups.

Edit: you already have access to good android streaming apps.. So that's alright.. As for the sound issue, try going into settings to check that all sounds are at maximum. I prefer using the TV/HT remote to adjust volume level.. In case you aren't already, one less thing for the box & KODI to worry about. I've had issues in the past where system & a custom KODI's volume levels clashed. Though the issue was fixed in a later version..

If I do a fresh install of Jarvis, how do I manually install the add-ons such as Genesis or other add-ons 1 by 1? Honestly I only use this one Add-on to watch all my English series (which I can't think of it's name now)

Can I actually find/install add-ons within Jarvis?

Yes you manually install and use every single compatible add-on for Jarvis... There are official and unofficial KODI add-ons...

How to Install Genesis or unofficial addons. While you are at it, the FUSION repository is a solid addition... Lots of decent unofficial add-ons in there.

To install official Add-ons in KODI... System --- Add-ons --- Install from repository --- Kodi Add-on repository... The rest is self-explanatory.

to install any addon, there is a procedure.

best to google "how to..". e.g.
https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-phoenix-for-xbmc/

u will need to some of the basics one way or another to keep kodi running for the longer term.

Thank you both for your easy instruction.

The other addon that I always use is 1Channel smile.gif

Anyone encountered the issue where texts in Jarvis are not displaying correctly?

It's being displayed in blocks which is unreadable. I've download this through the play Store.

What can I do to remedy this?
