Third time charm perhaps?

As long as they keep it open and app-compatible with mobile then it should do ok, if not better.

One of the PITA thing about Google TV is the apps is not compatible with other Android devices.

Use NFS, I find it much more stable on Win7 media servers.

This is what I use, it's shareware and the license for personal use is not that expensive compared to others.

Hmmm... is it possible to launch external program from XBMC? Since HyppTV has an Android app, it's just the case of launching the Android app in BlueStacks and then mapping the controls to the remote.
*
Yup you can do that on Android version of XBMC. Usually it's under Programs. Some skins allow you to customise and add them to different groups, usually as Favourites.

need to make correction after a new development.

hypptv app does not work on androids by default. u need to get unifi to turn on and grant u access thru hypptv everywhere (like astro-on-the-go). then the app will work on android phones, tablets, boxes, PC. foc for some customers, others need to pay. it works but video quality is not as good as with orig hypptv box.

as for incorporating into xbmc, i hv not known if it has been done, just like is it possible to get astro-on-the-go on xbmc? i mean a simple way and not with additional hardware and "programming", watever...? anyway, we're talking about using legit ids/pw and not outright hacking, right?  hmm.gif

You can install the APK for Astro-on-the-Go on Android XBMC box, then launch it either from Programs or Favourites. Since it's for mobile, quality is also mobile. laugh.gif

Interesting. This box have the potential to be the smallest and ultimate XBMC HTPC. Run Win 8.1 on it and you can do Netflix in Full HD as well, and launch it from XBMC.

already received yours? i thought it still not released to the market yet?
*
It was released around mid Nov. Got mine from Google Play store. You can find them for sale on eBay with varying markup.

Good news is, we might see licensed Android TV OS box from Chinese manufacturers soon. Allwinner seems to be working on one.

At the moment no support for local playback yet AFAIK.

On the bright side regards to Plex, direct stream and direct play of MKV files is supported.

please confirm:
you mean the nexus player is able to play mkvs from an NFS or SMB share? just that playback from a usb storage attached to the device is not supported?
*
Yup correct. I tested MKV and M2TS from NFS share (via Kodi). H.264 and MPEG2 played fine, only VC1 had issues.

Thinking of picking it up and the FireStick when I get there in a week's time - just to test the capabilities.
So far my Ouya and FireTV does what they are intended to
*
Got the Fire Stick when it was on sale, seems decent. Will know more when I get it in my hands. My only issue with Ouya is that it doesn't do Netflix in HD. Otherwise it's great.

hey guys..
anyone here bought a media player directly from the USA? I want to know about tax...last time i bought a nexus 4 phone from usa but got RM100 duty. cos device is not Sirim-fied also.

Plan on getting the FireTV Stick, Roku or the Nexus player.
*
Tax is usually 10%. Media players for personal use you don't need SIRIM AP generally. They usually kacau if it's something that transmit radio frequencies. Wifi radio fine.

FireTV stick for travel, Nexus Player for home. thumbup.gif
