Was looking at my 1st statement of CC account  and noticed 30,000 "RESERVE ACTIVATION TP " ... smile.gif
Didn't know about FREE 30,000 TP before...

30,000 TP = 6,666 enrich miles,
so This free TP alone can almost justify paying rm800 annual fee for frequent flyer like me .....

EDIT : Thanks for @iamWill for corrected me...
*

Yah, nice welcome gift, FREE TPs. If you had not post I would not have even noticed it.

I just checked my Statement after reading the posts above. Well, my statement also mentioned "RESERVE Activation TP" BUT I only got 20,000TP!!! Well, better than nothing and get to offset cost of RM100 GST. As for the VI, I got nothing for activation, only earned TPs from overseas spent. Maybe got to use the VI locally to get 10,000TP? I must go call CS and report back later.
*
I called Maybank CS and was told we will only earn 10,000TP each for activating the AMEX RESERVE and Visa Infinite. Therefore what I got. i.e. 20,000 TP is correct I guess. tigaxxx, you lucky fellow get to be rewarded with 30,000 TP notworthy.gif

For those of you new to Maybank 2 Cards Premier, click here to read my Comprehensive Review of the Maybank 2 Cards Premier.

And click here to see the Agoda 12% for Visa Infinite issued in Malaysia for bookings on Wednesday until 4 June 2014.

@Gen-X, You're right (and Maybank CS too)....
My other extra 10K TP's were from My wife's Suppl. VI card ... and I'll get 10k more TP's  when she start using her AMEX card for the 1st time...
May be you should add the FREE TP's stuff in your MBB2 Card review and quote my name ..hehehe  just kidding thumbup.gif
and I did read all ur blog's posts (well..almost) and very informative & comprehensive  indeed...
*
Bro, thanks for the heads up, I must go ask my wife to go use her Maybank 2 Cards Premier supp cards so that I earn 10K TP too. And added your nickname into my article mentioned above by giving you credit on the extra 10K TP.

Upon 1st usage/transaction ---> Principle 2 cards + supplementary 2 cards = 40,000 FREE  TP's

What supp card also get 20K, i.e. 10K each? Good deal considering the fact GST only RM25/card. I must go revise my articles again.

This is good news ! Maybe i'll sup one for my mum. BTW if i do so, will MBB cancel my mum's card when she turns 65 ?
*
Bro, what you talking about MBB canceling one's card when he/she turns 65? Foreign bank(s) maybe they will do such a thing but MBB?

Anyway, you being the Principal Cardholder is responsible for your supp card bills.

Hello everyone, I m back! wink.gif

Finally I've spent RM80k over my Amex Reserve Card for the past 2 months, next year's annual fee gonna to be waived.. wink.gif
*
Bro, and you said RM100K tough tongue.gif

I was wondering if you did read my Maybank 2 Cards Premier American Express Reserve and Visa Infinite Comprehensive Review. If you had not (or any of my articles), it does not surprise me as you are an expert in credit cards. In an earlier post, I did ask you to consider providing a link my Comprehensive Review of the Maybank 2 Cards Premier in Post#1 for the benefit of others.

TO ALL:

I just posted in my Facebook Page, if we had set our SMS default Value to RM1 for our previous Maybank credit cards, i.e. MBB 2 Cards Plat, we still need to request that the SMS default value to set to RM1 for our Maybank 2 Cards Premier as it is not automatic. And to my surprise, AirAsia did not request for AMEX MSOS Safekey when I used my AMEX RESERVE!

*
Bro, did you ask what is your MBB2 Cards Premier SMS Default Value and check it against your other MBB cards?

Who is so stupidly idiot would want to pay for this MBB 2 Cards Premier Amex Reserve on RM800 annual fee charges yearly, or spending RM80K per annum for its waiver??  doh.gif

Who would rather cares for its so-called "Reserve" status??

Note: MBB is one of the bank here who rarely waive their AF or GST charges on credit cards, unless with ridiculous-required minimum HIGH spending amount / total swipes per annum for AF waiver only. (GST is 99% surely not waive-able items!!)
*
Firstly, if one does not want to contribute to the well being of the nation by paying the miserable RM50 tax, go get a debit card tongue.gif

For the first year, the Maybank 2 Cards Premier annual fee is waived PLUS we get FREE 10,000 Treats Points for every card including supplementary cards to offset GST (the smart ones will pay the miserable GST and convert the FREE Treats Points to Airmiles)

Now, if one spends less RM10K a year with the MBB2 Cards Premier AND did not utilize the 5 FREE airport lounge access overseas (this statement not applicable for our local airports) and decides to keep the MBB 2 Cards Premier after the first year anniversary and pay the RM800 annual fee, I guess I will agree with you that he/she is stupid, hahahaha.

But here is my case where it'll be stupid of me not using the Maybank 2 Cards Premier.

1. Click here to see my credit cards collection 2014. And you will note that I mentioned that I have Alliance Privilege Banking Visa Infinite which is FREE FOR LIFE (non PB got to spend RM30K to get auto annual fee waiver).

2. I do spend substantial sum on overseas transactions. Let's say RM100K for discussion sake.

a. If I use my FREE FOR LIFE Alliance PB VI, I will earn 500,000 Rewards Points which I can then convert to 83,000 Enrich Miles. (Can't get a FREE return Business Class ticket to Europe unless there is a Sale but can get one to Australia).
.
b. If I were to use the Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX Reserve or VI, I will earn 500K Treats Points which I can convert to 111,000 Enrich Miles (FREE return ticket to Europe on Business Class).

Difference in FREE Enrich Miles between Alliance Bank VI and Maybank 2 Cards Premier is 28000 Enrich Miles! Over 3 years, the difference will ballooned to 84000 Enrich Miles [can get FREE return Business Class ticket to Melbourne worth RM4920 (if MAS is having 50% Enrich Sale, this amount will double)].

Above is only one part of the benefit of Maybank 2 Cards Premier over Alliance Bank Visa infinite and UOB Visa Infinite. FYI, I can save money by using my Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX or VI versus Alliance or UOB VI. Click here to my article The Best Credit Card for Overseas Transactions 2014; and from the table I prepared, you will note that Alliance VI and UOB VI overseas conversion rate can be more than 1% higher than MBB VI!!! So for RM100K spending, that's RM1K savings simply by me using the MBB VI.

And with the introduction of Maybank 2 Cards Premier, most of us here concluded so far than the Maybank 2 Cards AMEX Reserve overseas conversion rate is lower than MBB VI - which means we can save more. Click here to my Comprehensive Review of the MBB 2 Cards Premier to see difference in overseas exchange rate between MBB AMEX and MBB VI.

And in the above said article, I did conclude that the Maybank 2 Cards Premier is good for those who do spend substantial sum and more importantly wanting Airmiles. For those who spend less than RM30K per year and not into Airmiles, better to go with cash back credit cards.

Last but not least, there is another reason why some may want the Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX RESERVE besides wanting Enrich Miles - it's the 50% discount at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. And if Maybank was to extend this promo until end of 2015, those who frequent Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur and dine at Lafite in particular would be more than happy to pay the RM800 annual fee. Actually, if one gives the MBB 2 AMEX Reserve supp to his/her spouse, and total 4 guest but split the bill, the savings for a night at Lafite is more than the RM800 annual fee. So, I can tell you those who can qualify for the MBB 2 Cards Premier or AMEX Plat (without Maybank Logo) but don't go get them and go to Lafite with a guest (more than twice before June 2014 and maybe beyond that if MBB extend the promo for MBB 2 Cards Premier) and pay using other credit cards that don't give them discount are the ones who are stupid, hahahaha.

QUOTE(tigaxxx @ May 4 2014, 11:49 AM)
I have my own reason to own the cards beside "syok sendiri"  cool2.gif

Me too, all my credit cards do earn me something in return which is more than the miserable RM50 GST.

I just published my article I Earned 15000 FREE Enrich Miles for Purchasing American Airlines Tickets Which Also Earn Enrich Miles.

1. Firstly, I only found out recently that we can use our Malaysian Issued Credit Card to purchase American Airlines tickets online without any surcharge. If we were to book via American Airlines MAlaysia Contact Number, each ticket will be imposed RM80 fee.

2. There is no surcharge for using AMEX.

3. I used my Maybank 2 Cards AMEX RESERVE and I was surprised to learn that the overseas conversion rate was less than 2%

Transaction Date: 30 April 2014
Posting Date: 5 May 2014 (Monday)
USD4,320.64
RM14,342.60
USD/MYR Conversion Rate = 3.3195545
USD/MYR Spot Rate on 2nd May 2014 (based on Friday's Closing Rate) = 3.2661 (BNM website states 3.2690).

In another thread, someone mentioned that nowadays need PIN to transact in Europe. So, if I don't have a PIN, can I go shopping in Europe using my MBB 2 Card Premier?

Anyway, I did call MBB CS, to get PIN I need to go to branch.

pspfan - like you said, I had no problems using my Maybank 2 Premier AMEX while I was in Paris, New York and London. Nobody asked for PIN and the merchants knew that the transaction needed to be signed.

haha, if it was me, I let me wife or one of my children to enter and I go ta pau a cup of cofee and go to the smoking room.

Which airport? If KLIA, many credit card give FREE access. In Malaysia, the Plaza Premium Lounges (i.e. KLIA and previously LCCT) allow use to use more than one card to enter. Example, if you have Allaince Platinum and Maybank 2 Premier PPMC, you and your GF can enter for FREE.

Great article by Gen-X sifu again. Thank you!

May I know what are your thoughts on the "side perks" of the cards such as golf, shopping and dining privileges, as I notice they don't go into your consideration factors?
*
Golf Yes. Dining and Shopping included under Promotions. See last few columns of table and I also spelled it out in methodology section for the last criteria, i.e. Others. But actually shopping and dining not a good comparison as there are too many variables, varies between cards and some dining promo may be good for you but not for me. However, I did in my conclusion add that the best credit card in the world does offer discount at Shangri-La thumbup.gif

QUOTE(Wongchoy @ Nov 5 2014, 09:34 PM)
Great job on your article bro. I do enjoy reading it and would like to thank you for the hard work. From using this card, i could tell you that i have been using the VI to pay the kindergarden fee of my little princess in Singapore. Glad to say i got 5x TP for those payment.
*
Good to know you benefiting from your little princess education, haha. VI sure can get 5X for overseas. Last time I bought from Dell online also get 5X (???)

Question is will we get 5X with the AMEX for education bills overseas? I too kiasu to use it (my son high school in Melbourne accept AMEX); therefore only use the VI to pay for my children tuition fee. Only last month earned myself just over 50K Enrich Miles with the VI to pay my son's high school fee for next year's 1st semester (have to pay in advance 3 months!!!).

just trying to see what it offers but this Enrich Points is still too complicated for me
*
Bro, did you read my lastest credit card showdown? If yes, then I must be very bad in explaining Enrich Miles, hahaha.

Tell you what, since you took the trouble to explain to me the Basel 3 Bank credit thingy, I shall now try to explain to you about Enrich Miles for Maybank 2 Premier AMEX Reserve versus Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX Plat/Gold.

Both the Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX Plat/Gold and Maybank 2 Cards Premier AMEX RESERVE - you will earn 5X Treats Points for every Ringgit Spend locally or overseas.

For Maybankard 2 Cards Platinum and Gold, to redeem 1000 Enrich Miles you need 7000TP or in orther words, you need to spend RM1400 to get 7000TP (or 1 EM = RM1.40 spent).

For Maybank 2 CArds Premier AMEX RESERVE, to redeem 1000 Enrich Miles you need 4500TP or in other words, spend RM900 you get 4500TP (or 1EM = RM0.90 spent)

A. Say you spend RM62K with the Maybankard 2 AMEX Plat and Gold, you will earn 310,000 TP which can be converted to 44000 Enrich Miles (must convert EM in 1000 basis).

B. Say you spend RM62K with the Maybankard 2 AMEX RESERVE, you will also earn 310,000 TP but you can redeem 68,000 Enrich Miles!

To redeem Enrich Miles for a return ticket on Business Class to Melbourne with MAS, we need 68K Enrich Miles.

So in above example, for the same spending, the Maybankard 2 Cards won't earn you enough Enrich Miles to redeem for a return Business Class ticket to Melbourne BUT the AMEX RESERVE can.
