The monthly expenses(calculated based on the rates of AY2014/15) are roughly like this:
Accommodation:
Single room(SGD110 per week/approx. 440 per month), double room(SGD75 per week/approx. 300 per month). The room rates are charged on a semester basis..(SGD1980 for semester 1 and SGD1870 for semester 2)
Food:
If you're staying in hall, breakfast and dinner will be provided every weekday plus breakfast on saturday morning and dinner on sunday evening totaling to 12 meals per week. Each meal costs roughly SGD2 (which is really cheap). Assuming the meals taken for lunch as well as dinner on saturday night and breakfast on sunday morning costs around SGD3-4, your monthly expenses on food would be more or less
SGD180.
If you're staying in student residences in which no meal plans are available(but you can have your meals in the food court there), and assuming each meal costs about SGD3(depending on what you're eating), your monthly expenses on food would be around
250-300 SGD.
Transport: Traveling within the campus via the internal shuttle bus is free. For traveling outside campus(bus, taxi, MRT..), around 10-20 SGD would do(I hardly used more than 5SGD per month..LOL..)
Miscellaneous:
Telephone bills(depends on you...but I think 10-20 SGD per month would do as many uses whatsapp and line for instant messaging instead of SMS)
Photocopy of lecture notes:Price is 4 cents per page for black and white...if you're the kind of person who hates digital reading materials and prefer hardcopies like me

, then the expenses should be around 10SGD(depending on how much lecture notes your lecturer uploaded...)
Hope that clears your doubts
*By the way, Eric and I are in the same ethnic dance...make a guess

.... lol!!
Thank you so much! Your breakdown is so clear and useful

So I suppose 800SGD per month would be sufficient?
Btw for tuition fee loan and study loan application, is it 100% guaranteed we can get? And I actually apply for financial aid from NUS too, but still yet to hear from them. I'm wondering whether is it easy to secure the financial aid from NUS.
Oh and for the accommodation, does it already include utilities (e.g. water, electricity)? Also, we pay one lump sum amount of accommodation fees on the start of the semester?
Well, I personally prefer hard copy lecture notes too

So that I can scribble and make extra notes on the side hahaha.
Too difficult to make a guess man, so many different dances! Hahahaha.
Really appreciate your estimation, so clear and very helpful!
