With TotalMedia Theatre 6 on my HTPC, 3D iso files can be toggled to 2D playback. Menu is just like on a real standalone BD player.Android TV Box

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Feb 2 2016, 10:35 PM) Yes, always. QUOTE(voncrane @ Feb 2 2016, 11:06 PM) Features like that are where the HTPC shines... It's more of a Windows advantage over Android... Thing is, as advanced as the Android OS is today, especially with all the fragmentation.. It's still not truly ready for the living room. Advances in hardware & software should bridge the gap. Yes, I also believe a real PC in the form of a HTPC is most configurable. But I wanted to try something different and see how much I can make it work for me.But like everything else, it's always a compromise / workaround. QUOTE(thingamagic @ Feb 3 2016, 06:50 AM) Assuming u have an android media player, have you tried the same iso on it? Yes, my Nvidia Shield just arrived. I haven't had the time to set it up yet. I believe I need to install Kodi first before I can stream the BD isos on my NAS?The iso i tried so far that dont work are goosebumps, hobbit and guardians of galaxy QUOTE(thingamagic @ Feb 3 2016, 06:57 AM) 3d is not something for everyone, to me its a nice to have (bonus) especially if it was well done for 3d viewing. I thought the hfr hobbit trilogy in cinemas were beautiful. Gravity, avatar and the walk were great also. But other movies only capitalise on it for the higher ticket prices with little effect. I thought I quite enjoyed the dog fight scenes in Star Wars 3D. It was IMAX 3D if it made any difference. The latest star wars 3d was boring except for few wow scenes (destroyer in space) cos it was 2d conversion anyway |

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Feb 3 2016, 10:55 AM) I'm a newbie when it comes to Android boxes. So I might take some time. One thing though, I cannot stop oggling at the design and the sharp lines. Definitely one of the more eye catching products I've come across. |

QUOTE(voncrane @ Feb 3 2016, 01:58 PM) Nice... That's right. It was a whole 715MB of download plus reboot and set up accounts. QUOTE(cchean @ Feb 3 2016, 05:06 PM) Yeah, hopefully it performs within expectations like a Mercedes. This post has been edited by jchue73: Feb 3 2016, 09:16 PM |

Been busy and I have not been playing much with my Nvidia Shield. My wife probably is more familiar.
But a few days ago I happen to switch it on to check on something and a notice came out on huge update; Thought it was just a routine update and proceeded to update but just now only I read that it's actually a Marshmallow update that a lot of people have been waiting for. http://www.androidcentral.com/marshmallow-...rolling-out-now Supposedly with the latest Kodi and Mashmallow, I am able to bitstream audio to my sound bar. But don't think that happened when I played Avengers Age of Ultron. Need to investigate further. |

QUOTE(stormaker @ Mar 9 2016, 12:41 PM) True, but in my case, i wouldn't change android tv boxes every now n then, also i like to install apps/games to test them out, to sideload most of them is pain in the ass for me, which also come with no update in future. Just curious... What apps / games that needs to be sideloaded on the Shield? So far I find everything is there. Unless I'm missing something... That's why im being picky, fussy ... what ever u call it for my 1st ever android tv box purchase. (My 1st TV box was non-android Xtreamer Sidewinder). |

QUOTE(voncrane @ Mar 9 2016, 04:37 PM) Ah... Ok. I'll pretend that I needed to google what ehem means. Anyway, I believe those apps are mostly streaming related. At the moment, nobody comes close to Netflix quality... Or are they of good quality in which case I'm behind time... |

QUOTE(stormaker @ Mar 9 2016, 05:24 PM) Hi jchue73, not all the games/apps in normal play store are available in android tv play store. But Android tv are getting steam since last year, so the available apps/games are getting more n more. Sorry if I generalised a bit in my earlier reply. In truth, I'm still trying to catch up. Lots of things I am not aware of and things to discover. Lets just say I'm like 3 years behind and that's quite a lot. Glad to hear that u havent come across any apps/games that not in the store, bcos that's mean u don't need them yet or will never need them ... In time I'll probably find myself needing those apps. QUOTE(stormaker @ Mar 9 2016, 05:24 PM) I find it's ok for the limited time I'm using it but the full HTPC is still more flexible. I guess I need to get used to it and perhaps discover more apps to help me achieve what I want.I don't have a 3D LCD to test but I do have 3D Bluray ISOs. They play find in 2D. It does not give you simulated 3D or attempt to play 3D like what you get on a real 3D supported Bluray player or with TMT on my HTPC. I am still trying to see why Dolby DTS does not bitstream to my soundbar when using Kodi. Picture quality is quite good but I somehow detect a very slight judder on fast panning scenes. Perhaps that's my old LCD TV not able to keep up. QUOTE(voncrane @ Mar 9 2016, 05:27 PM) Yes, but they aren't designed to combat Netflix.. Take live TV for instance, Netflix does not do that.. All I have to say is that some look mighty fine at 1080p.. Ehem.. Ehem.. LOL ok. Still learning. BTW, any LIVE sports channels to suggest that can replace the ones on Astro? |

QUOTE(stormaker @ Mar 9 2016, 08:15 PM) No worry, i myself still learning, in fact u are light years ahead of me since u already own the best android tv box on earth but i have yet to own any ... LOL I had the chance and got the Shield because I malas want to find and chase around trying to solve problems because things don't work or incompatible. When you get older, you get lazier too. Thanks for ur review bro .... QUOTE(voncrane @ Mar 9 2016, 08:18 PM) What's the connection between your soundbar, TV & Shield box? Most TVs can not passthrough certain formats over either HDMI or Optical connection. If using KODI, check the passthrough settings. What is this cCloud thingy? Need to find time and go through Kodi.Pay a visit to the KODI thread.. An example would be cCloud addon. Shield to Soundbar to TV All with HDMI cable. |

QUOTE(andrewL @ Mar 14 2016, 11:37 PM) On top of the original Shield controller for playing games, mine came free with their remote.Anyway, I still use a wireless mouse / keyboard combo. Sometimes the mouse does not scroll properly at Shield's main menu. I have to use the keyboard arrow keys to scroll and navigate to the apps below and then press Enter key. |

QUOTE(calvin @ Mar 16 2016, 08:32 AM) gahhh.. typo No worries. Mine only came with US type adapter. Just like vocrane mentioned, use a passive adapter to convert to Malaysian plug.In fact, I used a multi 2 pin adapter plug to plug my other 2 pin power plugs as well as Nvidia's. Ngam ngam fit. QUOTE(voncrane @ Mar 16 2016, 09:37 AM) I believe one can just use a passive adapter for the Malaysian power sockets, seeing as the main power adapter is rated to accept between 100 - 220v, 1.2A. It's 2.1A, 40W. QUOTE(andrewL @ Mar 16 2016, 11:44 AM) hi bro, my unit doesnt come with a free remote unfortunately.. and it cost USD50 for the remote excluding transport charges. Yes, mine was on promo with free remote thrown in. If not wrong, it was from B&H Photo.Do you mind pm me where you bought yours and for how much ? QUOTE(voncrane @ Mar 16 2016, 02:29 PM) IMO.. The Nvidia ships with a controller but not the remote (Yeah, Nvidia.. It's true. Stylish, yes but the remote is not very functional. If you have to buy the remote, I suggest to skip it. The wireless keyboard / mouse is a better investment. |

QUOTE(cruiseantz @ Mar 17 2016, 04:38 PM) i bought my shield TV come with free remote too....as for the game controller, i still keep it at the box. love the remote due to it simplicity & accurate voice recognition. Logitech K400 Plus will be my next best option if i don't use the remote. Yeah, voice recognition... I'll try it out and see but I'm still old school. |
