Yes, mine was on promo with free remote thrown in. If not wrong, it was from B&H Photo.
It's true. Stylish, yes but the remote is not very functional. If you have to buy the remote, I suggest to skip it. The wireless keyboard / mouse is a better investment.
i bought my shield TV come with free remote too....as for the game controller, i still keep it at the box. love the remote due to it simplicity & accurate voice recognition.
