That is definitely not a SPDIF port. As for connection... SPDIF transmits digital signals, 3.5mm ports transmit analog signals. So a single cable will not work. An adapter or better phrased, a converter will be required. That's just bad luck, you got misled by crafty marketing.
From my experience, mine laptop able to using 3.5mm plug as SPDIF and send the input to the AMP, i using the converter from 3.5mm to optical cable head and input to optical input.Yep, they appear to just be changing the externals...
