usually, it is yr android accessing the files on pc attached drives.

the files accessed are then played by the android player->tv.
first, turn samba on android on (in settings). then go to pc to allow pc to be accessed (control panel, sharing...)

if necessary, just google to how to allow pc to be accessed. someone recently reported it is difficult with windows 10 which i find surprising becos doing that in vista and windows 8.1 is straightforward.

You must be doing something wrong then.... Samba allows both ways.. Sorry, but did you even visit the Google link I posted here previously?  There's a post right in the first page of the results that outlines (with pictures) how to setup and access files within a shared folder in Windows. Accessing windows shared folders with ES file Explorer app is pretty straightforward afterwards.. No need to completely spoon feed ya.

Connect both pc & box to the same router, turn in network discovery, automatic setup & connect.. Turn on file & printer sharing... Navigate to desired folder on PC, properties... Enable sharing.. Advanced sharing... Password protection... Security.. Etc... Launch ES File Explorer on box, scan for Windows shared folders.. Select IP address of PC on home network.. Login if required.. Profit!!!
Yeah, you'll require a DNS service that supports Netflix.. Setup the TV or your router with said DNS.. Launch Netflix... Login.. Profit..

i have not tried using es file explorer.

i have always use the device's native "media/search" option.

diff devices and diff brands may call it differently, but i m sure it is there.

I'm running Windows 10 Home Edition and here's a screenshot of the settings you need to duplicate on your PC.

As you can see... Just need to enable options in "Advanced Sharing Center" & the Folder (you want shared) sharing properties. After doing the above...On the android end...
*Open ES File Explorer or any file explorer which supports such. But for this example, I'm using ES.
*Right side, under the Network Tab, Hit LAN....
*Then "Scan" on the bottom and wait for your PC (IP address) to be discovered on the network (Should be fast).
*Select the PC, login if required with your PC's username and password.
*If successful, you'll see something like below;

The rest I believe is self-explanatory... Stock TM router + Windows 10 PC + Nexus 10 (Wireless connection).

Precisely.... Since at least Windows XP (maybe even earlier), there has been native support for folder sharing over the home network. IMO, ES File Explorer is like the champion of file explorers in terms of pricing (Free) & features. So when people report that they can't access folders & files over their home network, usually there's a little hitch somewhere.

considering the cost of a new router vs the cost of all the other equipment whose performance depend on it, best to change.

u will see improvement in stability, max speed and wifi coverage.

The method I posted works... Noticed I mentioned going into the folder's (aka drive) properties after setting up in the advanced sharing centre... Which you did.. I purposely didn't list the entire process step by step as it feels better when you discover the rest by yourself..  . There'll be a noticeable difference when you change the stock router, how much, depends on the capabilities of the new router. More features = higher cost. As for launchers, there are more than a few options in the Play Store. Search for "launchers" & take your pick..

i think the powerlines need to buy in pairs, one pair for one device, right? cost?

Well, it's for those who'd prefer to launch an app with a easy UI, pick a show or movie & instant streaming.. No worrying about pre-downloads, dealing with addons, repositories, dead links or piracy. My neighbour is using the m8s with 60" led LG TV, the picture quality for 1080p movie using Phoenix looks darn nice

I tried again and still black screen, I really wonder why is it that you had no problems. Is it TV or something else ? I have it connected to Panasonic Plasma TV via normal HDMI.

It seems that I am on the stock factory firmware KOT49H.20141122
(Weird that the check for update via the pre-installed update app did not detect there were updates which is why I had wrongly assumed I was on the latest firmware)

Will do a clean flash to FW008 (20151231) once I get it downloaded.

Get an Android TV Box for IPTV. You can have one device to watch live channels and movies/dramas on demand.  Need more info, pm me.

iflix works now on my Minix X8-H Plus with FW008 (the only problem is that subs cannot be selected any more
iflix Subs FIXED: Simply keep exiting/restarting the iflix movie playback until the subtitle box appears at the bottom right! 

When the iflix movie plays and only shows the single scrollbar at the bottom, just click back to the iflix movie page and then click play again. I had to try 2 or 3 times before the subtitle button appeared at the bottom right.

Minix restructured the OTA update process and in so doing, dropped access to the older app & required a manual flash of a later released firmware containing the updated OTA app & support. Coming from a much older firmware, it's recommended you perform a clean flash using a PC. Also make sure you aren't supposed to initially flash a particular firmware before flashing the latest firmware.
There's an updated YouTube for Google/Android TV that works.. I believe it's "YouTube_1.0.5.6.apk". Google or search on Minix forum for the download link.. It's within the Minix Neo X8-H Plus sub-forum.
