Southampton 2 Norwich City 0.
Jordan Robertson fired home a goal on his Championship debut to inspire Southampton to their first win at St Mary's this season. Striker Robertson, who only arrived on loan from Sheffield United last week, cut in from the left wing and curled a delightful 20-yard shot into the top corner to give his new side the lead on the half-hour mark. The game was decided in controversial circumstances with a penalty for Southampton. Dejan Stefanovic was ruled to have brought down Adam Lallana and the referee pointed to the spot. Veteran defender Stefanovic protested and was shown the red card for foul and abusive language before David McGoldrick stepped up to slot home the penalty for his fifth goal of the campaign. In a lively opening to the match, both sides hit the woodwork. McGoldrick was the first for Southampton when his shot from eight yards cannoned off the post with the goal at his mercy. Norwich midfielder Lee Croft then put over a teasing centre for on-loan forward Antoine Sibierski to head against the inside of the Southampton post with goalkeeper Kelvin Davis beaten. After Southampton took the lead they almost added a second when Joseph Mills set substitute Bradley Wright-Phillips free and his 20-yard shot clipped the top of the crossbar. After the break, McGoldrick crossed to Robertson who hit a first-time shot just over the bar. Davis came to Southampton's rescue twice in a minute on the hour-mark with two fabulous saves. First he denied Omar Koroma when he was clean through on goal and then brought a stunning second save from the striker after the resulting corner fell to his feet eight yards from goal. After the sending off and penalty, Southampton looked to go on the rampage to kill the game off. Lallana, McGoldrick and then Lallana again all went close to adding a third but it was not to be. The win was Southampton's third of the season and they are now four matches unbeaten as they look to climb the table. Southampton's David McGoldrick celebrates scoring his sides second goal with a penalty. This post has been edited by PIRATES!: Oct 1 2008, 04:53 PM |

QUOTE(enemyofgod @ Nov 2 2008, 10:32 PM) Preston North End 2 Southampton 3. This was a real game of two halves with Southampton producing a great second-half comeback to win 3-2 after trailing 2-0 at half-time.Jason Euell was injured in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Lloyd James with Oscar Gobern on the bench.Saints made two substitutions at half-time, bringing on Gobern and Bradley Wright-Phillips for Ryan Smith and James. It was 2-1 in the 63rd minute when Andrew Surman won a corner and took it left-footed and debutant Alex Pearce, on loan from Reading, rose highest to nod home from close range. In the 68th minute it was 2-2 when Jack Cork crossed and St Ledger made a mistake and substitute Gobern crossed the ball over to Surman, who dived to head the ball home. The winner came in the 90th minute when David McGoldrick broke through the middle of the pitch, beating Youl Mawene before firing into the bottom right-hand corner of the net to break Preston's hearts. - Southampton's David McGoldrick after scoring the third goal. QUOTE(PIRATES! @ Jan 2 2009, 03:08 PM) But the past few times I watched Southampton played in the FA cup on TV, they were horrible, like cursed. A few years ago( i think the year after relegation) we lost to Newcastle, but got to see Blackstock playing GK for a while XD. Last year I think we played against Bristol and we lost that one too, embarrassingly. But this time, we are the underdogs! Can't get worst already, seeing the current opponents. |

2 more hours! I go play some Fable then I go watch the match.
*FT Saints 0 - 3 MU Oh well, i say pretty well played. Added on January 5, 2009, 2:14 amUnlucky for MU that this was Davis's on form night, or else they would have easily 5 or 6 If only Davis plays like this every match, and not only in one or two matches.
