as u try try more apps on boxes, phones, tablets, androidtv, u will see some differences.

some devices work very well for certain things; other devices work well for other things.

there is no one device that fits all.

anyone with 4k tv and android 5.0 or above, can try this youtube version 2.00.17.

it should get u 2160p videos; a new "stats for nerds" window will confirm that.

the search function may or may not work, depending on device.

This version is restricted for google androidtv, i think.

Good for 4k videos, but search will crash it.

Bring up menu, u see an new icon.

Stats info for video, e.g. 2160p 30fps.

new cloudtv is pretty good now, very usable.
some free channels are very stable, in HD.
paid service, think much better, get more live sports and movies, i think.
cloudtv to my knowledge is among the longest surviving "free" apps.

at this time, i used only these apps which are stable, long life (not die after 2 weeks), free, mostly in HD.
tired of too many short life ones, end up spending more time trying to keep up than using them!

news, live tv - chinese, english, singapore - new cloudtv
news, live tv - eng - mobdro
tv shows/movies - terrarium, kodi/quasar
mandarin tv shows - moli, cibn, mango
canto tv shows - kodi/icdrama

tv already on many hours a day, don't need more!

between the threads in this and iptv section, plus googling, all these apps can be found w/o much problem.

just as backup, don't really watch canto/hk dramas much these days.

using same free mx 1.9.3 from playstore.

box hdmi to avr.

not sure if using optical/toslink to avr.

i just use default which is HW and HW+.

mx notice does say they may not work with some devices.

already discussed in kodi thread...

many people can't do with mandarin only, need canto dub or eng subs for chinese/korean/japanese videos.

for that, icdrama has been a darling addon in kodi for a long time.

of late, it has been less reliable as the addon developer has quit kodi; a kind soul is now patching up as best as he can.

at times, it goes down.



the good news is u can use a simple app to get the same.

u can even watch walking dead and prison break in canto audio!

there was a problem with unifi some weeks ago but now, all is good.
can stream everything with just google open dns, no need vpn at all.

I tried the app on my androidtv... yes, it crashes, won't work... like yr mibox.

Google androidtv is sensitive to certain apps, will even reject installation sometimes.

After so many times and survived, think will be ok.

Whether china block, unifi throttle or quota used up, we are better prepared now.

It will work on all yr devices.

below means trouble for all... all kinds of traffic in and out will be affected, i would think.

when they start clamping down on vpn's and "banned sites", u never know what is their definition.
