Now you that you mentioned it...is it risky to flash new bios to your card?
There's a rumour about you can flash your 290 to 290X, is it true? hmm.gif
*
Actually, there is a saying that if nothing's wrong with your card, then there's no need to flash the BIOS. However, after confirming with distributor, my card is still covered by warranty, even in the event that something goes wrong during the BIOS flashing process. So I go ahead to get it done. biggrin.gif

the new vbios that you just flashed default boost is 1163? so high!? shocking.gif  shocking.gif
*
Yes, Hexus also reported the exact default max boost clock speed. smile.gif Your clock speed in the Leaderboard is the max observed boost clock right? I think you should state down the base clock instead. laugh.gif

Shaders still remained as 2560 units, 290X has 2816 units, only the core & ram clocked changed to 290X's level

hmm.gif I see, so did you revert back to old bios? if yes how?

Just curious, not going to risk my card becoming a brick unless there's a way to revert back to old bios.

If not mistaken, you can use GPU-Z to save a copy of your default BIOS, before you flash it to the new one. You can also download the respective BIOS versions from Techpowerup. But since Tri-X 290 is not known to have any issues with its default BIOS per se, I would suggest to refrain from flashing to any newer versions of it, unless absolutely necessary only.

Yes, after that i revert back to 290 original bios follow the same bios flashing procedure which can be found in OCN forum. You can find VGA bios in techpowerupVGA bios collection

I see, which means your clock speed runs at a constant speed instead of a base and boost speed? Sorry, what was your stable clock speed already?

my card somehow boost speed are quite abnormal, most of the reading in gpuz are incorrect to me, eg base clock 1150, boost clock 1200, actual boost in afterburner 1240, gpuz reading shows 324 doh.gif doh.gif most stable would be 1240, anything over that you will see up down up down, unless use the bios that l previously mentioned nod.gif

Hmm...it doesn't show the core / mem clocks on the upper right corner... hmm.gif
After some research, im guessing your core clocks are 725MHz and memory clocks are 1250MHz correct?

As for the dual GPU issue, sorry can't help you with that, not familiar with MAC system.
Damn...you beat my (your) overclocked card with stock settings. :|
*
Yup.. correct. It's okay la... Not going to use it for full time gaming. Mainly used for Final Cut Pro.

Gotta love how the Zotac 780 Amp performs at its stock clocks. Even with 3dmark Firestrike you'll get 96xx score at stock.

My initial score was significantly less than that, did some googling and found that the default BIOS gave me a very conservative boost clock, max at around 1084 MHz only (despite the high base clock of 1006 MHz). What was your max observed boost clock for your 780?

So I flashed the latest official BIOS last night and voila, the max boost clock increased to 1163 MHz, and overall Heaven scores increased as a result. biggrin.gif

The reading on GPU-Z is correct, usually they will list the base and boost clock speed. The one that you see in Afterburner is the max boost clock speed. The max boost clock speed is not fixed and depends on how well your chip can boost while remaining within the temperature target. I believe when it shows 324 MHz, that is the lowest speed the card is at, usually when your com is idle or low usage.

Actually your score is on par with mine. smile.gif What I earlier meant was, what was the max boost clock speed that you observed in Afterburner/Precision? Do you still remember? Just curious how much a manually overclocked reference 780 can reach. Earlier mine running on stock BIOS only 1084 MHz, now the new one allows me to hit 1163 MHz.

ahh dem, i cant recall it :/

wasnt checking Precision at that time for its max boost clock

tbh, im not sure if i can even OC more. previously i tried at this same clock speeds, but my system went into a boot loop before return back normal. so i didnt dare try again sweat.gif

LOL, it's ok then. No need to tempt with fate. biggrin.gif Last time I think I kena one time, the infinity loop thingy and I also don't know how to recover from it, finally reformat whole com. sweat.gif

Indeed, it is. Right out of the box, it is already so heavily overclocked. smile.gif I've not yet run Firestrike though, but I reckon my overall score would suck, since newer i7 processors have significantly better Physics score. biggrin.gif

Nope, my gpuz reading are 324 when running heaven, the gpuz readings are all mess up untill recently 7.8 version, i know about the gpu boost 2.0, my card more or less like this, if l reset everything and reinstall afterburner, same core +170, power target 109% its boosted up to 1280, running full 109%, if any crashing occurs, it reseted and ultilization limit kicks in to cap at 100% power target, 1240, when benchmarking best use ln2 bios, it will disabled boost, l would get firm reading, this card are somewhat quite confusing lol! But all my score submited on this threas are on default bios, but before my gpuz reading are not reliable, so l submited the afterburner validation doh.gif
