'Curse of Silence' exploit squelches inbound SMS/MMS to Nokia S60 devices
Here's an odd one for you. Tobias Engel of the Chaos Communication Congress has discovered a rather nasty exploit that'll cause any Nokia S60 devices running versions 2.6, 2.8, 3.0 or 3.1 to stop receiving SMS and MMS messages. The "Curse of Silence," which has been independently verified by F-Secure, is triggered by sending an SMS that begins with an email address that's at least 32 characters long. The attacker must also change the protocol identifier to internet electronic mail before sending. Devices with versions 2.8 and 3.1 lock up after 11 such messages and still have some limited receiving capabilities, while 2.6 and 3.0 devices will go completely mum after just one attack. In both cases a factory reset is required to fix it, and he says there is no other known workaround for the user. We don't imagine this being a pervasive issue, but if you've got any tech-savvy enemies or malevolent pranksters in your life, you've been warned. Video demonstration is after the break, or hit up the read link to see if your device is among those listed at risk. Source |

QUOTE(keith_hjinhoh @ Jan 4 2009, 03:51 AM) Just my suggestions.Garmin Mobile XT - if you have built in gps Google maps to complement garmin Fring - free voip calls and sms for major IM like googletalk, ym, msn live, icq etc - everything in 1 interface File managers like X-Plore or Y-Browser. Coreplayer - video player Joikuspot Premium - turn ur phone into a wlan hotspot, if you phone have built in wifi. The free Lite version is not stable on my S60 v3 FP2 device. Some hack apps - to hack your phone so can sign unsigned apps and crac-ks. Widsets - widgets manager Opera Mini - hell much faster than the S60 web browser cos fully utilising cache just like old school netscape or older IE browser. Symtorrent - bittorent client - i can even download a full album 100 MB size in 2 hours using slow ass but stable Digi edge. |

I think there's no option to disable network assisted gps in google maps. If turn off the gps, accuracy is off by 400 metres..
but in SE K660i, the location service (google maps also, pre installed by default) is pretty accurate, even without the built in gps! for the Joiku premium version - can get it for free also if you know... symtorrent is like any bittorent client - smooth download btw...since that my phone now is like a mp3 player - downloaded lotsa music stuffs..never download ripped movies anymore hehe..cos no more streamyx. |

I am having a problem with my nokia n96.
I had insert some pictures into my device. But after that I deleted the pictures by using my computer. (connect the handphone with the computer) After I deleted those pictures, I go to the photo gallery, I saw all the image files is still there but all in error file. It is like the phone never synchronise with my computer. I tried to delete those error file via handphone but an error massage prompt "system error". Anybody can help me on this? Please advise how to delete the "empty" picture files Attached is the error picture file. Thank you. ![]() |

Did you try switch off the phone and switch on again ? Gallery should auto-refresh it.

How about :
1) Restart phone 2) select Remove Memory Card 3) Open Gallery 4) It should auto-scan and refresh. 5) close gallery (Options -> Exit) 6) put in Memory Card 7) Open Gallery again 8) It should auto-scan and refresh. |
