Hello everyone.

Just wondering if this thread is still active as a point of reference for me to collect more info/knowledge on Focus. I'm getting my car soon and any valuable info shared here is truly appreciated.

Hi evoHahn,

I've surveyed almost all the listings for Ford Focus Sport that's currently available on sale. Saw about 15 units of them and test drove 9 of them before settling with what I'm currently getting, a Midnight Sky unit. Needless to say, I have seen Focii Sport ranging from very bad to near mint running conditions.

There are about 165-170 listings on Carlist now for both the sedan and the sport, but in actual fact there are probably only about 20 odd unique units on sale; the rest are duplicate posts or the same car that was bounced from one dealership to another.

This black unit stands out as being the only 1.5 EcoBoost unit on sale, and I've seen the car myself. I can confirm that they did not allow test drive, and only allow startup of the car. Even then the vibration of the engine is harsh (bad mountings perhaps) and there are indeed fresh paint marks on the rear and front of the car. It was a bit out of my budget but I went on to look at it anyway, giving it a benefit of doubt being one of the newer units on sale. It's not worth the time.

I dare to say that out of the 15 units that I've seen, only 2 or 3 units has full service record and untampered odometer (I've learned the signs to see the tampered mileage as well). There is one particular 2.0 S+ unit that stands out among the rest with a tampered odometer and incomplete service record, but the price is a bit on the higher side. I can share more with you or anyone who is on the lookout for a used Mk3 Focus, if you are interested.

many thanks for the info. was about to pull the trigger huhuhu

edit : do share if you have info on facelifted mark 3 for sale

It's a bit hard to find used Mk3.5 on the market now. I'm guessing because of the short sales period (IIANM Ford sold it only for 2 years from 2015-2017), and also the problems associated with the Mk3 may have affected their total sales number for the Mk3.5. That didnt stop me from getting the Mk3, tho.

If you are interested in the Mk3, however, I know a few units that are currently available and in great condition out there. You'll be hard pressed to look for units in better condition than what I've filtered out. Took me 3 weeks of surveying.

I've test driven a few units that judders at gearchange and also one particular unit that had its radiator leaking after the test drive (everything else is perfect other than this problem). One test drive for less than 10 minutes and the radiator went completely empty.

The fact that the car got bounced from Johor to Cheras should raise some concerns about it. There are a number of Focii in the used car market that have been passed around from dealership to dealership for months, maybe even years. I dont see why nobody would snap them up if the cars are mechanically sound.

Your friend saw it in Johor, I saw the same car at Kajang.

Hi all, long time no came here.

However, i was wondering of buying Ford Focus S+ (2016 maybe?)...

For 2016 onwards, is there any major problem that i need to know before buying? Like i read somewhere about leaking gearbox...And howz about maintenance like, sensors/lower arms of Focus?

Im kinda on the gate here between Focus or Hyundai Elantra...any advice from Focus driver here would be helpful.
*
2016, EcoBoost model? If EcoBoost model not much problems with the gearbox as it is running on good ol' torque converter box.

But good luck searching for a used one. Seeing a 2016 Focus on the road is like finding a unicorn. The sedan version is even harder to come by.

I just received my 2013/14 Mk3 2.0. Rewarding driving experience, indeed. Have you test driven both the Elantra and Focus?

Nope, i mean the non EcoBoost. Found a few in Mudah.my but since im away for work now, so only Mudah.my could give me some idea on how's the price is. However i'll look around when im back home.

Ive tested Elantra, and its good. Got 1.6 and 1.8 models. Never tested any Focus yet.
*
2016 Mk3? That's very specific and rare, no? The mk3.5 is launched in 2016 March, I'm not sure if you can find any MK3 of that year tho. Perhaps you should look at the grant first.

That said, a 2016 model will give you more peace of mind as the clutch and TCM will still be under warranty until at least 2021. I'm saying this because I am not sure if the 2016 Mk3 receives Ford's extended warranty on the gearbox. But I've been looking at many units of Focus before settling with mine and I've not yet seen a 2016 Mk3 yet. If you do come across one, do share with us here.

Will do that. Just curious, ive just found one private post in Mudah.my, the guy selling his car for 72k. Stated year 2016 but i believe thats for its reg. but manufactured should be 2015? Check below link:

https://m.mudah.my/view?ca=9_3_s&cg=1015&ca...&ad_id=76166976

However, his car looks damn nice. Just that a bit overpriced i think. Imma gonna be back home around October/November. Will buzz that guy if its still available.

FORD FOCUS S+ 2.0 (A) Mk3 Upgraded STAGE 1
YEAR MAKE - 2015
REGISTER - 2016

This is written in the description itself. A 2015 made model registered in 2016.

I think I sort of know who is the owner of this car, but I might be wrong.

The owner is selling the car for 73k together with all the modifications. I dont know if you think those modifications are worth it, but they do cost a lot to install to begin with. Most importantly is you should try to look for one that is in good condition. Go take a look at a few different Focii to learn more about the car before you commit to a decision. If you are in KL, I can assist you on this too.

Yup i know, the price includes all the mods thats installed together. Im aiming at the last 2015 models. Bit afraid to buy from Used Car company but thats my only choice.

I live in KL but now in South Africa, working.
*
If you know what to look for, you dont have to worry about buying from a used car dealership. Let's just see how it goes and when you come back perhaps you can go take a look at a few different cars first.

Yup. Gonna look around Kepong/Selayang used car. A lot of used car company there, i lived in that area too.

Just asking, what choice do we have for sport springs and absorber? Other than OEM i mean. And bodykits? And what mods do you guys did on the engine usually? Other than exhaust/intakes
*
For some reason when I was surveying for my Focus, I couldnt find any Focus in the Kepong/Selayang area. They are all scattered around Ampang and Cheras/Kajang area.

I havent done my research on the mods on the Focus yet. Thinking whether it's worth modding or not considering that the parts are not cheap. Perhaps senior members that love modding can enlighten you on this.

Remove all 4 plug coils held on by 8mm bolts. Loosen all 8mm bolts holding the valve covers. The screws cannot be separated from the valve cover itself.

Clean the valve cover, clean any residues on the cylinder head where the valve cover sits, and apply a thin layer of RTV silicone gasket for added insurance

Tighten everything down by feel ( not too tight as you might strip the bolts ). DONE! No more leakage.

Hello Everyone !

I just bought a second hand Ford Focus 2013 Titanium sedan

after bought only read those comment regard Focus clutch problem  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

I've test drive the Focus but it seems fine,(no jerking and all)  and I have inquire with the salesman , said prev owner did not service at service center

May I ask how often does the DCT breakdown ? or  does the it still under warranty for the clutch replacement ?
*
Hello Don. Welcome to the dead club biggrin.gif

No worries about the clutch. Ford offers a 7 year warranty on the clutch and 10 years for the TCM. But it is best if you can get a second opinion and let someone else who drives a Focus Mk3 to give it a go so that you can compare the transmission feel. You might wanna check your car registration to find out when is your DCT warranty expiring (7 years from the date of manufacture, somewhere in 2020 for your case).

IIANM Ford Malaysia halted all sales of their passenger car models except for the Mustang & Ranger late last year or early this year.

For clutch warranty, better check the month, not year. If the car is registered in January 2013, you only have 1-2 months left to file in the warranty claim.

My car is also year 2013 and I have recently arranged for the warranty claim on the clutch, likely my last clutch warranty claim with Ford Sime Darby.

No, has to be the dry clutch of Ford's DSP6 Powershift design.

Other than Magna PT (Previously known as Getrag, manufacturer of the Ford's Powershift gearbox), the only third party company that makes clutchpack for the DSP6 is Schaeffler with their LuK RepSet 2CT for Ford Powershift.

I think I saw a local seller for this before, but forgot who.
*
What I do know is the dry clutch kits that we get from Ford SC (with FoMoCo box, stickers and whatnot) are manufactured by LUK.

Called up the Ford PJ2 service centre to ask if the steering wheel of the Mk3.5 can fit into the Mk3 and they don't have a clue and asked me to call the Damansara branch.
*
I was looking into this as well. Did some research and looked into other forums as well as websites of custom steering makers (link below).

From my readings I understood that the steering for ST, RS & MK3.5 has the same mounting points as the MK3 and even MK2, and therefore fits like a glove. The only thing that bothers me is the functionality of the extra buttons such as cruise control & SYNC voice control & music controls. The steering on the Mk3.5 does not have SYNC & Media control buttons IIANM. The cruise control should still work with the correct slip ring for the Mk3.5 steering.

If you are driving a MK3 S+ and you want a Mk3.5-looking steering while retaining the functionalities of a MK3 S+, then you might wanna look at custom made ones such as the one in the link below.

Thanks for the information. From the link, looks like that shop is based in US and not Malaysia. Anyway, the Mk3.5 steering wheel is something that crosses my mind in the event it can be technically done by the service centre here. Similarly I also think that some functions might not work because there are paddle shifters on the Mk3.5 while there are no paddle shifters on the Mk3.

If too troublesome in that the service centre here doesn't recommend the swap or some of the functions of the Mk3.5's steering wheel will not work on the Mk3, I won't be pursuing the plan any further.
*
The paddleshift can be separated from the steering wheel. Just thought you should know. You can also find Mk3.5 steering wheel that doesn't come with the paddleshift attached.
