LOL. From what I know, engine flush is essential for old cars. Just don't do it regularly.
Like once every few years is okay.

Engine flush is good to maintain cleanliness but don't do it at every oil change. I usually do once every 20-30k kms.

i am not sure bout this..btw is this a proven method to remove old sludge/carbon from engine?

the reason why engine flush is not recommended on old vehicle because some engine flush may

remove all the carbon, deposit, sludge which cover all the old seals. by removing them, ur old seals might get leak

and thus need a top overhaul. and who knows, the sludge might clogged the oil pump after do engine flush?

and if this is a proven method, why i didn't see any petronas, shell, sell any engine flush fluid?

well that is what i want to know about. whether it is proven safe to use or not. icon_rolleyes.gif

for how long & how far u want to drive ur car??

last time my p/wira mileage was almost 340,000km (in 11 yrs) but never did engine flush. Fyi, the engine still running smooth, no white smoke. I'm just using semi-syn oil since 10,000km & do oil change every 10k km.. Only few times did tappet adjustment & clean TB

At last, someone with the same dilemma as me...

I was also thinking Liqui Moly Engine Flush... Part of me say yeah, part of me no... I'm doing engine service tmrw... Planning to use Liqui Moly semi-syn.

Corolla with 380km... Engine is indeed a little sluggish but no white smoke and smooth, but very thirsty.

Engine flush is not a necessary thing to do.
Is all boil down to the car engine itself.

Personally, I did it once before.
I just gotten a 2009 Saga.
Slightly less than 50K KM, history? Not really known.
I had a very long long thought about using engine flush.
So what led me to using it?
Wanna remove all those sticky/gunky engine oil that look a bit bad.

Bought prestone engine flush at ACE.
Me and my friend started removing the old oil right after parking it in the workshop.
The oil wasn't light in viscosity.
Now, we poured back the old oil with engine flush.
Idle for 5 minutes. Some observations was engine sound a bit louder.
Removed the engine oil, now is a lot lighter in viscosity.
Is like water pouring out.

Conclusion?
I didn't felt much effect.
Cleaner maybe?
From the engine oil fill hole, is slightly cleaner.
No blue smoke or anything. Previous owner didn't torture the engine maybe?

Use it again? Maybe with a different brand.

I personally, wouldn't do it to an engine that isn't well taken care of.
But then is a bit dumb, if the engine is well taken care of, there wouldn't be a sludge or any problem.
Thus, the engine flush is unnecessary.

i think only used engine flush like once http://twitpic.com/doro53
or maybe none, cannot remember lol...

yes this is as is the moment the cover is opened, you can see the sludge/dirt on the edge of the engine block as there were leaks from the valve/rocker cover gasket (which prompted me to open up the engine cover.

If you can see sludge build up, then it's already too late even to use regular off-the- shelf engine flush. Or you may have to do many times before you can see any improvement.

yeap hence prevention is better than curing.
and a sparkling engine internal is always nice to see...

the "sludge" on the edge is probably due to external exposure over time... and that's not a concern at all hehe

Yes, that's why I do it at rather regular intervals even though not too often like oil change. I've done that for all my cars and even those which were >10yrs old, the internals were still shinny gold and no sludge what so ever until I sold them. If those which use hydraulic lash adjusters like Mitsubishi engines, then maintaining engine cleanliness is even more important to keep those HLAs live longer and still sounding smooth/soft. I learned this the hard way during my first ownership of a Lancer back in the mid 90s.

i got a bit lucky for my first car ownership as i had good advises/education/self study.

and of course, the 4g15 engine rebuild is an eye opener on the internals as it looked damn dirty hehe; i didn't want that to happen again thumbup.gif
