i think only used engine flush like once http://twitpic.com/doro53or maybe none, cannot remember lol... yes this is as is the moment the cover is opened, you can see the sludge/dirt on the edge of the engine block as there were leaks from the valve/rocker cover gasket (which prompted me to open up the engine cover.

QUOTE(6UE5T @ Jan 20 2014, 07:41 PM) If you can see sludge build up, then it's already too late even to use regular off-the- shelf engine flush. Or you may have to do many times before you can see any improvement. yeap hence prevention is better than curing. and a sparkling engine internal is always nice to see... the "sludge" on the edge is probably due to external exposure over time... and that's not a concern at all hehe

QUOTE(6UE5T @ Jan 20 2014, 08:07 PM) Yes, that's why I do it at rather regular intervals even though not too often like oil change. I've done that for all my cars and even those which were >10yrs old, the internals were still shinny gold and no sludge what so ever until I sold them. If those which use hydraulic lash adjusters like Mitsubishi engines, then maintaining engine cleanliness is even more important to keep those HLAs live longer and still sounding smooth/soft. I learned this the hard way during my first ownership of a Lancer back in the mid 90s. i got a bit lucky for my first car ownership as i had good advises/education/self study. and of course, the 4g15 engine rebuild is an eye opener on the internals as it looked damn dirty hehe; i didn't want that to happen again
