Dear XV owners, I am considering an XV but I have some questions.

1. How is the ride of the XV? Is it as rough or bumpy like what some people said about Subaru cars? How smooth is the engine?
2. Is there anything important that I need to know about it before buying a Subaru?
3. Are there any major issues with this car that I need to know off? So far, looks like everyone in this thread are quite happy with their car.
4. How is the service of the service centre?

Quite like the fuel consumption of the XV so far and generally the car feels quite comfortable.

i guess u saw the car on a roadshow and sat in it to get the cabin feel...
yes.. it does feel like an upmarket car, with leather interior, simple dash, roomy..

ride quality is "just nice"... so u should not just trust my commnent.. u need to test drive it to know...
engine is very smooth... boxer is the best!!
major issues?? still a new car, but Subaru is known for its quality...  so dont worry too much....

when ur buying a Subaru, rest assured, the AWD is not just for offroad.. its for overall handling of the car, which means, ur SAFETY...
no other SUV have this.....
*
The cabin feels pretty good in general. Good viewing angle without any obstruction or poor design, like some Lexus cars where the dashboard feels higher for some reasons. Love the extra leg room at the back seat too. Its functional in general but it can be a bit plain but I am using it as a site car so I actually dont really care.

AWD is a good choice, IMO, better grip means better safety without having poor consumption. I am not too certain how durable is the car though, like will I run into major engine issues like some Korean cars 5 years+ down the line.

I use my previous SUbaru Forester and current Forester to enter construction sites at all stages. From earthworks/site clearing all the way to completion.

Durability, no issues. Engine and gearbox for previous Forester built like a tank.

BUT for site use there is one issue. The exhaust system rusts very easily when in contact with mud/soil. Of course this happens with other cars too, but it seemed much quicker on my previous Forester. So either you change it to stainless steel or you spray anti-rust as soon as you get your car before using for site.
*
I'll keep that in mind but I do not go site as often. Usually just once a week as I am working as a consulting engineer.

I did hear about that Subaru build their cars like a tank. If I am not wrong, even Proton's Satria Neo in WRC also uses a Subaru gearbox for a while as their gearbox isnt durable enough for WRC.

How was your previous Forester? Any issues with the car? Why did you sell it?

QUOTE(hypercrazyd @ Feb 10 2014, 08:10 PM)
regarding the durability of subaru cars u need to check with those who owned FXT or WRZ, i assumed all the XV owner are first time owned the subaru car.
for me, driving 140km, XV felt a bit lighter and bumpy compared to my ford escape. but cornering wise, for me i just "dare dare" accelerate, because i have confidence with the Subaru AWD.
FC im having 8.4 - 9.0L/100KM (Mon - Fri morning jam from NKVE to damansara) XV easily can reach 140km/h with 2.5k rpm.
*
I can see that there are a lot of XV owners. Does anyone knows who owns/used to own a WRZ or Forester?

Wow, the engine is pretty powerful then. How is the handling? I tend to like cars that are a bit more agility than drives like a truck.

Of course if we start comparing to other countries, then our cars totally are crap price for value wise.
*
Its more like our weak currency that is causing the issue. Even a Proton Suprema S costs around $18 to $26k in Australia which is no where as ridiculous as ours that cost upwards of RM80k. On top of that, our lower minimum wages is pretty terrible.

QUOTE(joker98 @ Feb 11 2014, 02:40 PM)
So yahh...it was more of a performance and drive thing. I mean the Forester is not great looking and in fact quite ugly according to some. But that's fine by me as I go into site, some slight scratches on the body and it still looks ok. In fact with scratches, it will look more like a real AWD vehicle and not some pretty pretty thing just driven only on tarmac roads and valet parked outside a mall.
Loved my previous forester. Sold it because.......bought another Forester smile.gif

I can believe what you mentioned about the subaru gear box. Because I mod my previous forester up to 300+ bhp and the auto gear box took the extra torque and power without sweat. Didn't even need any oil cooler whatsoever. All I did was to change the transmission oil slightly earlier as precaution. But no problems at all.
*
Thank you for your feedback.

I think i'll consider whether should I get a XV. Its pretty damn amazing to see that the Forester still can take the extra bhp without needing much modification.

I dont know, but to me, Subaru is very much a company where their products are designed by engineers, not artists, as it is very clear that their products are emphasizing function over aesthetics while reliability over looks. I am looking for something that could be used long term, up to 10 years+ to replace my 1999 Accord. If i could use my XV without much major problems, like my Accord only had part of its cooling system repaired and swapped transmission once compared to some Korean cars that failed completely after 5 years, I think XV would be a good choice. Considering how good is Subaru used to be at WRC, i think the WRC tech will be carried over to our road cars. Thats what all these WRC or Le Mans are for anyway, to develop new technologies for our cars in the future.

Is your Forester very bumpy when you drive on relatively flat tarmac? How was the maintenance of your old Forester? Seems like once you bought a Subaru, its always a Subaru.

welcome on board!

Thank you!

I took the 2013 model though, as I get free accessories like duck tail spoiler to day running lights and also free 3M tinting. Considering 2014 model is largely the same as 2013 model. We dont have hybrid model in Malaysia or probably also wont get the rumored diesel turbo version of XV. 2014 model also do not have Blue which I am left with Tangerine, White and Silver so take a 2013 model with some free accesories.

I test drive it and felt in love with the XV with its performance and handling. It is a fun car to drive compared to ASX.

Yeap indeed~~~ actually before I get this car I also test drive Cx-5 and ASX .... I only love the driving experience in XV ... I took year 2013 as well, but I didn't get any daytime running lights.. is it yours version is XV crosstek? come with diff leather seats, DRL, floor map...etc...
*
Nope, mine is the non-Crosstek version. It just that they were supposed to deduct 5k for older model from the cost but they offered to use the money for the spoiler and also 3M tinting which is also 5k at the end.

Day running lights are complimentary as it is the current promotion where you get free insurance, free day running lights and free basic security tinting. I think all XV purchases on May gets free day running light.

car alignment can be rectified for free during 1k service FOC.  Always need to check thoroughly the new car during delivery - dun rush, check it inside out.  I will bring my "new car inspection checklist" with me whenever i collect a new car.  biggrin.gif

You discover the scratch during the collection or after you drove it off from MI showroom?  Tell you SA about it already?
*
Do you have the New Car Inspection Checklist? I like to bring one too when im picking up my Scooby.

Haha. But I'm not satisfied with XV pick up from 0 rpm, very slow. But then again, can't complain much, it's not built for it  thumbup.gif
*
I think thats how CVT gearbox is.

I drove a Nissan Dualis in Australia that comes with CVT. The power pickup feels slower if you try to floor the accelerator but if you gradually increase the power, the acceleration doesnt feel slow.

At least from my experience with driving that Nissan for 500km.

Just had my car broken into a few days ago in the Damansara Uptown area. Seems that with everyone having security film, they don't bust your window anymore, what they do is use a flat head screwdriver to prise the window sill and just pull the whole window out and dump it. Was wondering why there wasn't much glass in the car, the service technician at HQ explained that this is how they do it nowadays and it was quite "lucky" that the guy didn't bend/break the sill or that would be a bigger issue.

Lost a duffel bag and golf shoes, but they left the golf set behind, wierd. Everything was in the boot and covered with the tonneau cover. The guy just took the back left window off, pulled down the back seat and took my bag. I'm guessing they were just trying luck to see what they could get since nothing can be seen from the outside. They took nothing else, not even my Smart Tag or sunglasses, etc.

Just a pain in the ass, now have to go retint the window. The total cost at Subaru HQ was something like RM360 for the glass and labour as well. The guys at the service center were pretty helpful. It seems this kind of thing is pretty common, was worried they might not have spare windows initially.

Not much can be done I guess except try to park in a well lit area with lots of traffic, of course everyone tries to do that, just not possible at times.
*
I am sorry to hear about your incident with your XV.

Thanks for the warning. I think i'll use my bang up car more for short distance even after my XV comes.

Still waiting for number plate. :/

Your situation is quite same with me.

After prepare all the docs, my SA submitted the loan to 3 banks which is Public bank, Maybank & RHB bank to compare all the interest rate. (Heard from my SA said RHB offer the lowest rate)

He submitted it on Monday. Tuesday morning I got a call from public bank to confirm about the loan, no interview needed. In the afternoon, I received from Maybank regarding about the loan, had a interview with the officer about 10-15 mins.

Wednesday, RHB called me in the afternoon, interviewed for around 10mins, was told by the officer that the rate is 2.5%

Friday morning got a SMS from maybank regarding the loan had been approved and the interest rate is 2.64 % . I was told by SA that my Public bank had been approved too, rate is 2.72 %.
RHB told my SA that other supporting docs is needed for the loan in the evening. Im thinking WTF, you need those supporting docs you should tell earlier in the morning, so I can prepare it and submit on that day and proceed it earlier. I do not have any transport already as I have trade in my car earlier, I need a transport badly. But due the interest rate they offer, sabar abit.

Friday evening after working hour, delay again 2 days due weekend.

Next Monday evening, check the status, pending.... Tuesday afternoon, check again, still pending........... Directly tell my SA to cancel RHB, straight away take Maybank and call them to prepare the agreement, to be surprise that he told me that I can sign the agreement on Wednesday (Within 24hrs) if I'm willing to sign it at their branch.

Gao dim everything in the Wednesday, agreement signed, paid the balance and insurance everything and pass all the docs to my SA.

I'm thinking that my car should be delivery around 2 weeks, but my SA told me that the due date for delivering my car is 15 working days. 15 days is not long, but if you realize that 15 working days are not included public holiday, weekend this and that it actually take around 3 weeks ++ !!

I told my SA that I need a transport badly and call him to delivery ASAP if possible, and he said he will try his best. I had get a confirmation date to collect my car last week, it's 3 weeks exactly , 21 days after I Gao Dim all the things. But my SA apologize to me also la, he said that his company arranged it, he can't do anything and complain also, coz the delivery date not overdue also..

What to do is only wait only now sad.gif

I think my case is different from yours. This is the first time I am buying a car with my own name as my current car was a 15 years old Honda that I got it from my parents which is creaking with lots of failing components. So I wont blame the bank to be suspicious with my bank account considering my rather different situation as I work from home under a small company. I got offered with 2.54% from RHB while I got quoted 2.7 from Public Bank and 2.6 from Hong Leong.

Just had a call with RHB a couple of minutes ago, they wanted even more information. I guess its gonna drag on quite long I guess. sweat.gif

If its Australia, things might be easier since I have a good credit standing with the banks there and XV cost less there too. However, in Malaysia, I dont which is tough to get loan approvals. My number plate is still on the waiting list too. I think i'll only get my car in June.

I still can use my old creaking car so I guess my situation is alright.

I got mine at 2.39% few months back....
yeah just got back my XV from HQ, replacement of rear windscreen.... need to do tint again T_T
*
I think the new rates are effective on May where May buyers have to pay with higher interest.

What will happen if we lowered our XV by 1 inch?

a)reduce cabin noise
b)better handling/cornering
c)more fuel efficient
d)none of the above
*
Probably only (b).

I doubt XV will be more fuel efficient or less cabin noise.

Is the cabin noise that bad?

Whatever, booked the car. I'm gonna keep it after the loan is approved. Not like there is any other off road capable cross overs In the market that is reasonably priced.

Something you need to know about Subaru cars.. they all sound like atap roof when it rains. Sometimes so loud it's hard to maintain a conversation in the car.
*
Oh god.

I know they are not known to be comfortable cars but having a roof that sounds like atap roof is a bit too much. Still, i need it for its off road capabilities on unpaved roads with potholes and I really like my short test drive with its handling and performance. XV feels pretty damn agile. Aint gonna change my booking.

Just hope the passengers doesnt mind a bumpier ride and atap roofs. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, waiting for a number that is the same as my parents. Easier to key in numbers for parking tickets since dont need to remember different numbers.

I think now it is WA xxxx C. Next week will be going to WA xxxx D.
