guys..
me and a friend (not LYN forumer) is planning to drive to Koh Samui for songkran 2014.. 2XV's so far...

depart KL-Hatyai - 10th April.... (6-8hours drive max)
overnight stay at HatYai to avoid fatigue...
11th Hatyai-Koh Samui... 3-4hours including ferry and queue
songkran water festival - 12th and
Full moon Party (in Koh Phangan) is 13th... (optional)
return date is up to you, but i plan to stay in Samui til 18th...
accomodation of kos depend on u... but roughly rm70 can get a good decent clean hotel, right in the centre of Chaweng Beach, the most happening place in Samui....

roughly the max cost to drive (fuel price of rm3-4 per litre, tolls , insurance) is not more than 1K per car... if 4 person each car, its like 250 per person smile.gif

Any of you guys are welcome to join the road trip...

lots of people do this, so I was thinking, why not??
i've been flying to Samui for the past 3 Songkran, and firefly alone cost me 1k++... this year, why not utilise my XV to its true potential smile.gif
KL-Samui is around 899km only....

any1 interested to join?
i bet a convoy of Subarus is definitely fun!!!

Hmmm.... I have a small issue about my XV. I drive 140 - 150km/h is fun, cornering steady .... but when stuck on jam, especially driving uphill, car stop, accelerate, stop, accelerate, stop... when doing low speed acceleration (10/30 km/h), car feel jerking abit... like manual car using 2nd gear doing low speed, but a while only ...  1- 2sec, you can see the rpm go up very quick then went back normal.

is this normal for subaru XV?
*
i think the CVT effect is more obvious on full time AWD car like ours at slow speed..

Tested the paddle shift this morning for a short distance.  Accelerating/shifting up is great but shifting down is kinda jerky, I am too rusty with manual gears after 10 years plus with auto gear.  sweat.gif
*
for XV, i woulndnt call jerky a "negative point", cos the downshift is almost mimic a non CVT gbox, which i think is a good thing...
it gives a a manual feel to it... more in control of car speed....
before turn into corner at high speed, release gas, downshift to 3rd,then halfway out, step on gas and feel the grip... seriously, its fun....like my XBOX... hehe...

sound fun, need to break in the new engine and familiarize myself with the CVT in manual mode first before i do all these fun stuff.

Btw, we can just push the stick from D to M and vice versa anytime at any RPM and speed?
*
yup... anytime.... actually, the pedal shift will not be under ur control 100%...
if u exceed the safe speed vs rpm, it will automatically upshift for u ... to avoid any damage to the gbox....
it will not let you change to any gear if the speed vs rpm is not suitable...

Dear XV owners, I am considering an XV but I have some questions.

1. How is the ride of the XV? Is it as rough or bumpy like what some people said about Subaru cars? How smooth is the engine?
2. Is there anything important that I need to know about it before buying a Subaru?
3. Are there any major issues with this car that I need to know off? So far, looks like everyone in this thread are quite happy with their car.
4. How is the service of the service centre?

Quite like the fuel consumption of the XV so far and generally the car feels quite comfortable.
*
i guess u saw the car on a roadshow and sat in it to get the cabin feel...
yes.. it does feel like an upmarket car, with leather interior, simple dash, roomy..

ride quality is "just nice"... so u should not just trust my commnent.. u need to test drive it to know...
engine is very smooth... boxer is the best!!
major issues?? still a new car, but Subaru is known for its quality... so dont worry too much....

when ur buying a Subaru, rest assured, the AWD is not just for offroad.. its for overall handling of the car, which means, ur SAFETY...
no other SUV have this.....

Is there any other way to turn on the Kenwood HU other than pressing the Menu button?  I need to press quite hard on the button to turn on the HU, scare will increase the wear and tear.  I tried to press the Mode button on the steering wheel for few second but it does not turn on the HU.  sweat.gif  Haven't used the remote control though.  I think the remote is still in the plastic wrap.
*
i normally just switch off my engine without switching off the HU... hehe.. too lazy to do so..
ten when i start the engine, the HU boots up by itself...

Test drove X1/X3/Tiguan/Evoque/Q5/Q3. None of them gave me the same feel. In the end, die die buy back Forester. But no regrets. ...
*
wow.. u ditched the evoque and X3 for a forester?
i trust that ur decision was based on performance and ride quality thumbup.gif , and not like some people who buys car becos of brand, looks and resale value etc sweat.gif

Very nice.  The XV shown is fixed with Subaru OEM mud guard as well i think.  Is this a custom made perfect fit for XV or just generic one that we will need to cut here and there to fit it?  Any import duty?
*
it fits perfectly, with or without the original mudflap...
i plan to remove the original mudflap, and just use the Rokblokz...

wanna do combine shipping? if im not mistaken, ur in Johor right? cos if we combine shipping (usd60) (i'll send urs using poslaju) would be a cheaper option than if we both use USPS priority (usd 45 each)...

ok, combine shipping should be fine.  But need to trouble you to do the postage from your place to me at JB.
good idea.

*
nice...poslaju is not a problem....
so what color u want?
have a look at their website first.. just google rokblokz...
they have black, white and red (with black, white, red decal)...
diff combo, diff price...
let me know urs and i'll get a confirmation from them...

im getting the black with red decal (or maybe white decal...eheh) cos both are nice... i like black n white decal (like the Mazda 3 picture i posted earlier)

Just visited their web site, din notice they have white color for the flap.  Although my car is white but mudflap in white colour is kinda weird, and hard to maintain i think.  I will take Black Flap with White decal.  smile.gif
*
cool.. i guess for payment, you will bank in ur share to me and i proceed with paypal?
or maybe we can ask rokblokz to issue 2 seperate paypal invoices (total / 2) , if u wish to pay using ur own paypal, but send to 1 address?

but since its 1 shipping address, 2 units will cost more than rm500...
if im not mistaken, custom might impose an extra tax (if we're unlucky), which i dont think would be much either...
if we do get taxed, then we'll split the cost?

Some say because of the courier use - UPS parcel will have higher chance of getting tax than US Post.  Kinda true for me - all my UPS parcel kena tax, no matter the amount.  So far item send via slow US Post no tax.  unsure.gif  Maybe because items sent via USPS consider low value.  tongue.gif
*
thats logic...if the item is expensive, it wouldnt be wise to use usps mail...

I've recently switched over to RON 97 and used it for about a month already after using 95 for the past 4 - 5 months.. my experience is that it gives a smoother acceleration and therefore a quieter ride on my XV.
*
i gotta try this on my next fill up.... and definitely my drive to Samui in April....

You need to drive around half tank before ECU will readjust the fuel trim. So don't expect immediate improvement. Don't have too high an expectation on massive improvement as well.
*
my colleague said, although the 97 cost more, but he got a better milage..
is this true?
