I always have an OBD port scan tool, which is not too expensive nowadays with me in the car. One of the main reasons is because for my turbo Forester and since I mess around with the air intake and turbo boost sensor, there is a chance that some error crops up and my car will go into limp mode. Basically cannot drive above a certain speed and will be like a snail. The tool can erase the fault codes and let me car return to normal. But more importantly, it lets me know where the main problem is, as it reads the fault code and indicates the fault for most of the generic codes.

Also I have it so that the SC cannot bullshit me. The car has different combinations of lights to indicate different issues. But there are too many codes and there is not enough combination of lights to represent everything. For example when my main air flow sensor wire was loose (due to my own fault) the car display would say Hill Start Assist require checking with some engine and oil light on. But when checking the error code, it is specifically to the MAF sensor reading issue.

But really hope it is nothing major for you. But rats can be a problem. My previous Polo GTI had a rat die inside the bottom plate. That was horrible as I only notice it when it decomposed and there was smell and maggots coming out of the bottom of the car. Worst still I coul not access it properly without getting the car up.  Later on, another rat started coming into the engine bay again. I even found pieces of chicken wing bones and bread inside my engine bay with all the rat poo. Really horrible experience.

I bought a better one on another online shop because I wanted to handle and erase more specific fault codes for my wife's Citroën. But it can handle Subaru as well.

You need to make sure it can erase fault codes and not just a reader.

Alternatively u can buy the OBD Bluetooth modules and then buy the App on your android or iPhone to link up and use it to read and erase fault codes wirelessly. The apps can also give you a lot more info during driving.

great info.. its has been a while since i take note of whats out there for car mods gadget..
last i had was just safc2 on my kenari 1.3T.... almost 7 years ago...

Thanks, first time knowing there are so many XV owners out there, well, online at least. I've seen a whole bunch around Ara Damansara, all kinds of colours, but for some reason, very few blacks or dark greys. Most are white, silver or blue for some reason.

Been reading from these forums before this, if they aren't allowed for any reason, the mod can just delete them:

*
i live in ara too.. but e very edge of ara, near the nkve underpass to taman megah mas and kelana medical centre..
mine is white....

i guess xtra care is needed for dark colored cars, specially black...they are prone to have visible fine scratches, unless u wax n polish them ofter la...
thats why not much black color otr...

I thought white is the most trouble to take care...:/
*
solid white prone to turn yellowish after years , if left under the sun a lot..
depends on the quality of the clear coating also..so need to keep it shaded or wax once in a while to keep the color...
at least thats what i notice from my previous cars smile.gif
had a metallic black kenari, solid white myvi and metallic lavender nissan cube....

Very near then. I'm in Ara Damansara near the old NZX. If the grey that subaru had was a bit lighter, like the Honda grey, would have gone for that. Keep seeing dark streaks everywhere with the current white, especially with all the rain.
*
dark streaks? hmm.. funny that i dont get it on my car even though after nearly 2 weeks , unwashed...
maybe i wax my car evry 2-3weeks, thats why the stain just washes off before it gets dry...

i do my waxing at shine shine..they claim that their wax doesnt hurt the car clear coat..
its just a soft coating that stays on top...
previously sent my nissan cube there for years and the color is almost like brand new after 5 years, so i trust their product...

Not really.  My current Livina is black, very visible if dirty and have tonnes of hairline swirl mark.  So this time opt for white for my XV.  SA estimate i can take delivery of the car by next Tuesday - new Horse year get new "horse".  laugh.gif  can't wait.  rclxm9.gif

Haha. No wonder, have never taken it for a wax or polish yet. To be frank, not even sure whats the difference between a wax and a polish. Yeah, lame.  Which one is Shine Shine? The one in NZX or in the Citta Mall car park? Thanks.
*
i dont think nzx got shine shine carwash..
the one i always go to is near Giant kelana jaya(small one)
very near the chinese restaurant at jalan bahagia..
if ur goin to paradigm mall from jln bahagia, u wont miss this carwash on ur left.. yellow color signboard

just an advice, dont go to that carwash in nzx, next to a workshop.. i sent my car there a times, and im very sure they purposely scratch my rear bumber, so dat I will do the waxing with them.. cos i always check my car front n back before sending in for washing.. then i check on Foursquare, some else experienced the same. scratched rear bumper.. so mmg confirm lah..

Mine is black xv, just a week of time will turn to 'golden black', covered will dust.. sad.gif
*
kena cuci selalu bro.. then try fastwax spray on wax.. alternately, i use this wax.. help me get closer with the car, can look in details of the paint job when i diy... very simple to use, just spray n wipe... look for Fastwax in fb..

I bought mine from ebay. I think around RM 50+. But of course you need to download/buy the app for your phone. I use TORQUE.
*
so i need to find the obd BT module that can R/W..
or all of them can R/W?
or is the R/W features depend on the software?

TT should be nice, we also can meet at taman ekuestrian

I'm a bit sceptical on the light offroad because looks like the trail is very short  sad.gif
*
for AWD trail, its not about the distance, but the landscape...
it can be just a small area, with bumps, uneven road, steep incline etc...

anyway, i also agree.. if the trail is not AWD certified, then better dont risk it...
im good with a normal TT....

Majority of the member here are from which area? PJ? KL? Shah Alam??

Can find more XV on the road of Johor Bahru now.  Sighted a white XV at Tun Aminah yesterday, very striking, eye-catching even from far.  So far sighted 3 - 1 blue, 1 dark grey and 1 white.

Thanks for the info about the speaker, abundai, time to hunt for a set of 6.5" component set with tweeter and crossover in front and a pair of 6.5" for back.  Thinking of adding a 10" sub but the boot area already very small.  sweat.gif  Need to check with my installer is there any other option.
*
yesterday on my way to work, to my suprise, i saw 2 XV on the road..
then i quickly cathcup to them, and managed to form a straight line of 3 xv's...black, white(mine) and black..
if another white comes in, then can form a zebra crossing...hehehe..

if ur into SQ, an 8 inch active subs under the seat is sufficient...
for deeper bass (HipHop, RNB, House music), get the 10inch and a very slim box for the rear trunk...
Saw one from the shop that i did my soundproofing.. but 12" (not sure bout 10") rm590 just for the box
but in KL la...

QUOTE(pai3355 @ Jan 28 2014, 10:29 AM)
can we install sub under driver seat?
*
surely can... i hav a square 250W active subs under the front seat...
set it to 50% power, good enuf for me... really helps a lot in bringing up the bass for my Jazz music, and sometime Deep House.. smile.gif

I know exactly what you're talking about, the Shine Shine place. Will probably do one after CNY. There are about 3 wash/polish shops at NZX now.
*
i like the floor manager at shine shine (name is K.C)...
he really take care of his customer and of kos, my car...
but i heard he'll be moving to a different carwash soon (Paradigm), which also offers a good product ..

so later maybe i'll join the carwash in Paradigm when KC is there, cos i want the the same guy to handle my car...

so you get to know another 2 XV owners?  biggrin.gif

thought of getting active sub to put under seats too.  But together with the amp, they will take up both the space under the front seats.  I like to hide my shopping stuff under the seats.  blush.gif

oh..gosh... my wallet will bleed like hell after CNY - new alarm, new speakers, new steering lock, windows tint and some accessories from AE.  sweat.gif   Btw, any steering lock to recommend?  Want to install Locktech but i think they dun have one for XV.  sad.gif
*
if u have an active subs, get a good set of speakers that can work and sound good even at lower load/input.. no amp required..
so under driver seat stlll have space... just use passanger seat...
im using German maestro, if im not mistaken, only requires 35W.. our kenwood are 50W per channel..
of kos, with a good amp, can help the speaker sound even better...

our XV has immobalizer.. do u really need to get an extra steering lock? and didnt u get free windows tint from ur SA?? hmm.gif

QUOTE(pai3355 @ Jan 28 2014, 12:31 PM)
thanks mr abundai smile.gif

There's 1 shop near my house offering me sound system for RM800+ and installing sound deadening at rm150 for each door
*
800? what brand and whats included in the package??
for me, i'd invest one time in a good speaker set, but not those 1K and above for a pair la.. those are too advance for me (actually , to expensive hehe). cos i feel our Kenwood HU is quite good already... all it need is good set of speakers and active subs...
maybe u can try have a listen on my setup first during our TT (whenever that is smile.gif )

so for sound proofing, to fit all 4 doors, will cost u 600?
does that include both side of the door (making it a close box) + the white material like the the pic i posted earlier?
what brand of soundproof? mine is STP....

btw, roughly how many km you can make with one full tank of fuel?   I know different users has different types of routes, but just want to know a rough idea.  coz on paper, the fuel mileage is really good, even better than my 1.8L Livina which i regards as quite good.
*
i normally pump when all visible fuel bar are gone (there are 10 in total i think)..
usually a total of 50 litres (xv tank is 60litres)
first start up, the system will show ur total milage u can cover with a ful tank is 690km
i normaly clock 560km with 50litres...
average of 8-9litres/100km on the centre dash display...
total of 690km would probably mean the whole tank (60litres)

so according to my limited math skills sweat.gif
560/100km = 5.8
50litres /5.8 = 8.6litres /100km

so i guess the indicator is correct when it shows 8-9litres/100km...
and i do like like to play with semi auto and step on full throttle (when the road is clear) most of the time...
with cruising, im sure can get lower...

blush.gif
*
not really expert with speaker brand, but i heard of soundstream before...
make sure it can handle low input signal .. otherwise, u'll need to install an amp for it..
but does that 800 include 2 component for the front + 2 coaxial for rear door?

how you control bro?
i got 9-11L per 100km.. and got 7.8 (less than 10 min then back to 8.x) during my trip to Melaka.
Everyday jam to work, and night time "fly" balik rumah.
*
i rarely caught in a traffic jam...
maybe for some 5-10 minutes of moving traffic daily..
other than that, its an average of 80-110km/h...
i use semi-auto a.k.a paddle shift when there is no traffic jam...

still in default setting, i still thinking wanna install those speakers or not  tongue.gif

Mr abundai : yup, he mention about 2+2 and sub. About sound proofing he said besides inside all doors, he can put that material on ceiling and on floor (beneath carpet). Hmmm  not sure same material wif u or not unsure.gif  unsure.gif
*
2 speakers + subs , which would need extra wiring, rca cables and power amp..
wow.. all that for 800? my best bet is that brand is not for sound quality category..

just a suggestion, if ur dont really blast ur music, why not go for a better quality speakers that can produce better sound clarity ..
and let ur Kenwood drive it (no power amp)
then buy those active subs from online seller (LYN) at 400-500 to give it an extra punch of bass...
actually, u can get cheaper door speakers as well here in LYN.. then ask the shop to install it for you....
u will sure spend a lot less for somethign that would cos more if u buy directly from a shop...

some sound proofing material comes with no brand...its cheap...
STP brand usually cost more.. but my isntaller manage to quote me a reasonable price, so i just go for STP la...
at least its a reputable/known brand

Thanks for the fuel info.  Looks like it is more fuel-saving than Livina.  My Livina average 450km for 42L and I am not a heavy footer, not caught in heavy traffic often too.

Your trip meter trick is a good idea.  I only use one of the trip meter for full tank mileage on my curremt Livina, another one seldom use.
