1st. this is about we stockpiling players. yes..I agree that we are stockpiling young players, but this trend started after they announce that they want to start FFP. Chelsea started to sign young prospect all around the world and bring to the academy. we never really sign them for first team.
major discussion in the other chelsea forum about why we do it, and most of agree that it is the supply for the FFP. we will use this players if they good enough for first team, and sell them with profit if they surplus for the team..and use the movey again to reinvet or retain current players. young players value always increasing. Its our model..not a good one..quite harsh to the players actually...but its working..plus if they are not ready they cant be in the first team..Mourinho already changed this slowly..we let go 4 players sell and on loan this transfer..but we buy only two..and another 2 from the academy/reserves.

2nd about loss and spending. we reduce our debt slowly and every season we improve our financial account. we still losing money, but its getting better in term of the revenue and sponsorship. the year that we won the UCL account is off trend because we never expect it. the latest account is negative but we already comply with the FFP, since then we secured a few major sponsorship..the biggest one is addidas 300mil deal. we are improving..it took sometime because of the crazy spending we had earlier in the roman era.

nope i dont disagree with you, im just stresing the point that people spend on their hobbies. thats it and theres nothing wrong with it.

It is an issue if you consider FFP's regulations and their intention to curb indiscriminate spending.

Here's the thing about FFP. When I first read about it, FFP was supposed to be implemented in 2013 but it's already 2014. Not sure if they're really serious about it.

I agree with signing or better yet, grooming young prospects, preferable local since English youngsters can fetch a good profit but the question is, how much should a club pay? This is where Abramovich and FSG differ. Roman has the financial clout to pay top dollar for young players who are largely, untested at the highest level whereas FSG will only pay the bloke what he's currently worth, with the option of an improved contract if they perform as in the case of Raheem Sterling. FFP's requirements are fairly simple - that a club doesn't spend more than it earns. As it stands I think Chelsea have some ways to go if they are to meet FFP's requirements (on time which is now pretty vague) which probably explains why the club is loaning out so many players. I'm assuming this is to reduce your wage bill as it's common for loaning clubs to pay the salaries of players for the duration of the contract.

It's generally a good idea so sell expensive substitutes as they are a drain in finance (look Winston Bogarde). The biggest coup was getting the mancs to pay $37 million for Mata.

Sorry, maybe I a bit slow. Anyway, Adidas left Liverpool back in 2012 and Liverpool secured the biggest kit deal which is Warrior since then. Unless  you meant Liverpool renewing deal with Adidas back in 2006 (which was only about USD 120 mil anyway for 6 yrs).

on principle yes..the FFP is to spend what you earn and not more..but there are certain cap of loss and debt that allowed.

ohh we bought players like that too..just not that famous..only about 4-5 players out of 23 loaned that are high profile players. plus our new academy building just finish construction last year or the last two years.

bottom line is chelsea try to improve and be self sustainable..we know Roman is not forever..while he still here..we use everything to meet the sustainable level by using his money for investment and connection for the good of the club..this campaign spearhead by our chairman..Bruce Buck. 

That's the scary thing, that no one really knows how long Abramovich intends to keep the club. Would be a sigh of relief for you guys if he balances the books and the sooner the better.

The "Moneyball" approach or "Sabermetrics" is too complex for a simpleton like me which is why they hire blokes with professional backgrounds in accounting to work out the value of a player. I can't say if I'm pro or against it but it has worked in the US so I'm optimistic. Young players don't always hit the ground running and only time will tell.

I do agree that there is a margin for error and Sabermetrics is meant to narrow that margin but on the flipside this also means that FSG are less likely to take risks. I don't think there is a right or wrong approach in this respect.

btw..I'm backing Liverpool for top four..first because of my dad..second because we just sold mata to them.
