Pep Guardiola has once again reinforced the fact that rising youngster Nico O’Reilly is not a left-back, despite his staggering rise within the role in recent weeks and months.
Manchester City continue to be linked with a number of full-back solutions during the upcoming summer transfer window, and particularly on the left side of defence which may raise questions over Nico O’Reilly’s longer-term future.
Bernardo Silva has been told he does not feature in Manchester City’s plans past the 2024-25 campaign
As detailed by Belgian football journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Benfica are ready to make a deal happen for Silva and negotiations are being handled by super agent Jorge Mendes, who is believed to have a strong relationship with Viana.
Pep Guardiola’s efforts to bring Florian Wirtz to the Etihad Stadium have impressed the Germany international, according to new reports.
According to the information of German newspaper Kicker, Florian Wirtz is set to ‘closely monitor’ developments surrounding Bayer Leverkusen and their current head coach Xabi Alonso – who is a primary target at Real Madrid to succeed Carlo Ancelotti this summer.

Player Ratings
Stefan Ortega Moreno – 6
Couldn’t do anything about the penalty, made a good save in the first half.
Matheus Nunes – 7.5 (POTM)
Looked good at times going forward but Villa countered quite a lot. Scored the late winner.
Ruben Dias – 5
Unlucky penalty to give away. Was okay afterwards and played a role in the opener.
Josko Gvardiol – 6
Did his job at the back but picked up a silly yellow card.
Nico O’Reilly – 7
Liked his want to go forward and create chances. Not afraid to put a ball into the box.
Mateo Kovacic – 6
Moved the ball around the Villa midfield but lacked penetration.
James McAtee – 7
Unlucky not to get on the score sheet with two chances in the second half.
Bernardo Silva – 7
Was in the right place at the right time for the goal.
Ilkay Gundogan – 6
Had a different role today and moved the ball around the final third.
Kevin De Bruyne – 6.5
Played some intricate passes into the forwards and had strong deliveries from corners.
Omar Marmoush – 6.5
Quick on the ball and always wanting to go forwards and create.
Substitutes
Jeremy Doku – 8
Made the difference at the end of the game and created the winner.
Manuel Akanji – 6
Came on with seconds to play so didn’t get to do much.

Ortega: Couldn't do anything with the penalty and didn't have much else to do, kicking was improved on the weekend. 6
Nunes: Unlike Dias, he could do something about the Villa penalty but committed another needless error. But then got the winner, so all is forgiven! 7
Dias: Penalty has to go down as clumsy but he couldn't help it, and otherwise he was solid at the back and decent pushing forward. 6
Gvardiol: Up against Rogers and was outstanding all evening, winning duel after duel to keep the dangerman quiet. 8
O'Reilly: Good again roving up and down the flank, surprising Villa with his movement and athleticism. 8
Kovacic: Some wild passes but flung himself into the action at every opportunity to help City keep control of the ball. 7
Silva: Enjoyed scoring his first in four months and he was another who made sure he was everywhere to plug the gaps that Villa were looking to create. 7
Gundogan: Wasn't able to make the difference linking the midfield to the attack enough despite a few glimpses. 6
De Bruyne: Improved in the second half, although there are still too many wasted possessions these days. 6
McAtee: Nearly scored a wonder goal after brilliantly latching onto a De Bruyne ball. Should have scored when he ran onto O'Reilly's cross. Pressing was excellent. 7
Marmoush: Lots of running up and down to help the team and important for the first goal. Goal threat is still irregular. 7
Substitutes
Doku (for McAtee, 74) Some nifty runs and set up the winner. 7
Akanji (for De Bruyne, 95)

Player Ratings
Stefan Ortega-6/10: Made one good save and was good when required in goal.
Matheus Nunes-6.5/10: It was his errant pass that led to the incident that saw Dias give away a penalty. But to his credit he scored the winner late on to redeem himself. It was a fantastic moment and one that Nunes deserved.
Ruben Dias-6/10: Harshly adjudged to have fouled Jacob Ramsey, but after that, he did his job.
Josko Gvardiol-7/10: He was the better of City’s two-centre backs once again.
Nico O’Reilly-7.5/10: Another quality performance from O’Reilly. Defended well when required and offered a constant threat going forward.
Mateo Kovacic-8/10: Played well in midfield. He has been in good form of late, and that continued tonight.
Bernardo Silva-8.5/10: Scored a goal and once again did the hard work for his team. His performance was crucial in City’s win and he City’s man-of-the-match for me.
Ilkay Gundogan-5/10: An anonymous display from Gundogan. He couldn’t get into the game at all.
James McAtee-6.5/10: McAtee took up dangerous positions and his movement did cause the Villa defence problems. He almost had a great game as he had a chip go inches wide and he scuffed another great chance in the second half.
Kevin De Bruyne-7/10: Tried all he could for his team and he played well for the majority of the game.
Omar Marmoush-7/10: He ran himself into the floor and had his moments without defining the game.
Substitutes
Jeremy Doku-8/10: He won the game for Manchester City with a superb run and ball to set up Matheus Nunes for the winner. It was great to see and Doku’s game if developing.
Manuel Akanji-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.

Stefan Ortega (6/10):
Didn't have a great deal to do but was competent enough when called upon, in place of the injured Ederson.
Matheus Nunes (7/10):
After not doing a great deal right for much of the evening, the former midfielder was in the right place at the right time to score the winner.
Ruben Dias (4/10):
Struggled early on with the pacy Rashford and conceded a penalty in ungainly style. This was a difficult night for the Portuguese.
Josko Gvardiol (6/10):
In the air the Croatian put in a strong showing but he wasn't entirely assured in other areas.
Nico O'Reilly (7/10):
Didn't have many chances to show his attacking talents but when he did the youngster looked a threat, particularly with his balls into the area.
Ilkay Gundogan (6/10):
The 34-year-old showed some good movement on occasion and some neat passes but at times the game passed him by.
Mateo Kovacic (6/10):
Was busy in midfield as he searched for openings in the centre of the park but didn't contribute a huge amount in terms of tangible chances.
Kevin De Bruyne (5/10):
Displays like these perhaps show why City didn't take up the option to extend the veteran's contract.
Bernardo Silva (7/10):
Highlighted the importance of getting the ball on target for his goal as Martinez dropped a clanger.
Omar Marmoush (7/10):
Created something out of nothing for the opener and gave Cash nightmares. Looked the most likely to provide that necessary bit of quality.
James McAtee (5/10):
The City academy product can be a bit too lightweight and needs to offer more in attack to become a regular.
Subs & Manager
Jeremy Doku (7/10):
His superb run and cross grabbed City a late, late winner.
Manuel Akanji (N/A):
No time to make an impact.
Pep Guardiola (6/10):
His side put on a late show to beat Everton last time out but they lacked a spark for much of this contest against Villa. They seemed to run out of ideas at times, which is so strange to see from a Guardiola team. But Nunes bailed him out late on.

Player Ratings
Stefan Ortega Moreno – 7.5/10
Made some important saves when called upon largely in the second half and despite a shaky moment or two early on with his feet, this was one of Ortega’s better performances this term.
Matheus Nunes – 7.5/10
Nunes is in a fine run of form and he did well to deal with the threat posed by Hudson-Odoi on the wing, often driving forward with the ball and linking well with the likes of Silva and Kovacic in midfield.
Ruben Dias – 8/10
No words needed. Solid and always sets the tone for the backline.
Josko Gvardiol – 9.5/10
We said last time we’re running out of words for Josko Gvardiol. We were right. IN-CRE-DI-BLE.
Nico O’Reilly – 9/10
O’Reilly played like he was having a kickabout with his mates and it is quite astonishing to wonder just how good this teenager is on the ball. Drifts past the opposition like they’re not there, not an iota of doubt in the 19-year-old’s mind.
Rico Lewis – 9/10
Haters, where are you? Lewis was a surprise selection by Guardiola but he sent a timely reminder to those who’ve criticised him this season with an early goal and stupendous all-round performance elsewhere.
Mateo Kovacic – 9.5/10 (MOTM)
Wow, just wow. The Croatians are running the show for Manchester City lately. It’s time we start giving Mateo Kovacic his flowers. The best way to sum up what he did out there today was to say it felt like Rodri was playing in the middle for City at Wembley.
Jack Grealish – 7/10
Solid in holding the ball and doing what Guardiola wants him to do. I’d still like to see him back himself more and shoot when he has an opening in and around the box but he played soe good through balls and was a key presence in attack for City.
Bernardo Silva – 7.5/10
An attacking defender is how Silva once described his role in the Manchester City side and he did absolutely everything and was absolutely everywhere on the pitch.
Savinho – 7.5/10
City’s forwards could have scored another three to four goals between them if they put their head up and were slightly less selfish in the final third but Savinho was a bright spark in attack today and could have gotten in on the act.
Omar Marmoush – 8/10
Marmoush adds a very unique fundamental threat to the attack and like Savinho, he’d be disappointed to leave the pitch with no goals to his name but you can’t complain after the Egyptian drove at the Forest defence as many times as he did and put in a beautiful corner for Gvardiol to head in early in the second half for City’s second.
Substitutes
Ilkay Gundogan – 7.5/10
Calm and composed on the ball when he came on, executing the message from Pep for City to keep the ball and protect their lead
Phil Foden – 7/10
Helped see the game out and kept City high up the pitch.
Jeremy Doku – 7.5/10
Won fouls, got City higher up the pitch and would probably have been disappointed not to start given his heroics against Aston Villa in midweek
Nico Gonzalez – N/A

Player Ratings
Ortega: One excellent second-half stop, although he was occasionally guilty of taking too long in possession and being rushed. 7
Nunes: Picked up where he left off against Villa, doing his bit defensively and getting into excellent positions to support the attack. 8
Dias: There to spot the danger and do something about it every time, he also made sure his backline kept catching Forest offside. 8
Gvardiol: Lost a mark for nearly gifting a goal to Gibbs-White but another terrific display capped by a goal. 7
O'Reilly: His purple patch continued as he seemed to come out of every duel with the ball. A real threat going forward. 8
Lewis: An inspired pick as he drove at the Forest box whenever he got an opportunity, combining his tenacious side and work ethic with great intelligence in small spaces. 8
Kovacic: Arguably his best performance in a City shirt, finding the assist early on and running the game in midfield with barely a step out of place. 9
Silva: Another all-action display that involved defending, attacking, and somehow giving Chris Wood as good as he got physically. 8
Savinho: Some direct running at the Forest goal and improved decision-making in the final third kept Forest nervous. 8
Grealish: Couldn't make the most of some promising positions, although he regularly won free-kicks to help the team. 7
Marmoush: Led the line very well and was better in the second half as he produced an assist and threatened the Forest goal. 8
Substitutes
Gundogan (for Grealish, 71) Helped to keep the tempo. 6
Doku (for Marmoush, 82) A strong run. 6

Player Ratings
Stefan Ortega (6/10):
Didn't need to make a save until late in the game when he tipped Gibbs-White's header away. Quick out of his area when he needed to sweep up through balls.
Matheus Nunes (6/10):
Played intelligently, perhaps lifted by his crucial winner against Aston Villa last time out. Kept the ball well and got in behind the defence a few times.
Ruben Dias (6/10):
Put in a commanding performance at the heart of the defence, keeping Wood quiet all game.
Josko Gvardiol (6/10):
Put his strength to good use in both areas and his brutally powerful header effectively saw off Forest's threat. Loses a mark for his terrible pass to Gibbs-White which he was lucky to see go to waste.
Nico O'Reilly (7/10):
Another strong display in the FA Cup, a competition he has taken by storm and used to establish himself as a regular.
Rico Lewis (7/10):
Got the ball rolling with a fine finish and nearly got himself a second, too. Helped City cruise through most of the game.
Mateo Kovacic (8/10):
A dominant performance from start to finish, dictating the rhythm of the game. Also teed Lewis up for the opener.
Bernardo Silva (6/10):
His energetic display ensured City had a tight grip on the game, although he largely stayed out of the final third. Made a sloppy pass late in the game leading to short-lived Forest breakaway.
Jack Grealish (5/10):
Played a supporting role, helping tick things over without doing anything remarkable. The first player to make way, coming off for Gundogan in the 71st minute.
Omar Marmoush (7/10):
Delivered the perfect ball for Gvardiol to head in the second. Had freedom to get at Forest's defence and caused them plenty of headaches.
Savinho (6/10):
Didn't exactly terrorise Forest with his usual trickery but kept them on their toes until making way for Foden.
Subs & Manager
Ilkay Gundogan (6/10):
Continued City's strong grip on the game.
Phil Foden (N/A):
Had some nice touches in and around the area after coming on in the 81st minute.
Jeremy Doku (N/A):
Ran at Forest on a couple of occasions to limit how much they could throw at City in the final stages of the game.
Nico Gonzalez (N/A):
An 89th-minute substitute.
Pep Guardiola (8/10):
His starting XI was surprising when it landed, but it soon made sense as City dominated the game and ensured Forest rarely stood a chance.

Stefan Ortega-7/10: Made one crucial save in the 80th minute to keep Manchester City’s lead at 2-nil.
Matheus Nunes-7/10: Got forward well and did his job in possession. Defended well when required.
Ruben Dias-7.5/10: Made several crucial challenges and was composed when required.
Josko Gvardiol-8/10: Scored City’s second and defended well for the most part. Although he did make one error which played in Morgan Gibbs-White but his blushes were saved by the post.
Nico O’Reilly-8/10: A brilliant performance again from O’Reilly. Was good on the ball and did his job defensively.
Rico Lewis-8.5/10: Scored the opener and was good in midfield throughout the game. His runs into the box from midfield were a feature of his play.
Mateo Kovacic-9/10: Manchester City’s man-of-the-match for me. He was dominant in midfield when City were on top. Ran himself into the ground before being substituted. His assist for Rico Lewis’ opener was brilliant.
Bernardo Silva-8.5/10: Another brilliant performance from Bernardo Silva. Did everything for his team and continued his strong recent form.
Savinho-6.5/10: He had his moments but his end product was lacking. But he did offer a constant threat with his driving runs.
Jack Grealish-6.5/10: Played in midfield and offered a threat in possession and control. Was taken off in the 70th minute and replaced by Ilkay Gundogan.
Omar Marmoush-7/10: His movement was a threat to the Forest defence all game. Although his end product wasn’t there he was a constant threat going forward.
Substitutes
Ilkay Gundogan-6/10: Gave Manchester City control when he came on.
Phil Foden-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
Jeremy Doku- N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
Nico- N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
