Ederson – 6.5 Some questionable defensive positioning perhaps for Crystal Palace’s two goals, but was largely faultless throughout the rest of the game, taking note of a trademark stellar assist for James McAtee. Injured and forced off, however. Rico Lewis – 6 Having been in and out of the side lately, Lewis showed good composure on the ball and held a clear intent to bring Manchester City up the pitch when in possession. Some may point an element of blame in Rico Lewis’ direction for Eberechi Eze’s opener, leaving the forward unmarked inside the City penalty area. Ruben Dias – 6 Resolute in his defending. Little to write home about, but strong and commanding as you would expect. Josko Gvardiol – 6 More of the driving force alongside Ruben Dias, carrying the ball out from Manchester City’s defensive third and trying to find those in midfield and attack with his splitting passes. Nico O’Reilly – 7 Another strong showing from a 20-year-old playing without any previous experience at left-back. His physicality, ball control, eye for a pass, and eye for a goal makes him a unique presence as a full-back, and no doubt a player Pep Guardiola can count on in future. Excellent finish for the fifth and final goal. Nico – 6 Brought about an assuredness at the base of midfield. Largely faultless in turning the ball over and bringing City forward. Combined well with Mateo Kovacic and the defensive pairing in particular. Mateo Kovacic – 6.5 A much better performance from the Croatian, in a season where he has been pretty strong overall. Excellent finish for his goal at a time when Manchester City needed to get a grip of the contest and get in front before Crystal Palace could themselves. Ilkay Gundogan – 7 Similar tone to Kovacic in being a strong performance despite recent criticism. Ilkay Gundogan seems to be using his experience more and more lately, turning over the ball quicker and getting in more offensive areas, perhaps through Guardiola’s instruction. Kevin De Bruyne © – 9, MOTM Class is permanent. This was a Kevin De Bruyne showpiece; the exact sort of quality we have become accustomed to over the last decade. If Manchester City are to qualify for the UEFA Champions League or win the FA Cup in the remaining weeks, the outgoing club legend will be at the very centre of that output. James McAtee – 7.5 So many opportunity to convert and score perhaps around five goals on Saturday afternoon, but he finally got his strike and took it expertly with an outstanding first touch and showing the composure to round Dean Henderson and slot home. More of the same, and consistently, and he no doubt has a long career at Manchester City. Omar Marmoush – 7.5 Where would we honestly be without Omar Marmoush’s forward presence and goals?! This was a must-sign player in January and we’re seeing exactly why; pace, flair, eye for goal, attacking urgency. Substitutes Stefan Ortega Moreno – 6 Oscar Bobb – 6 Savinho – 6 Jack Grealish – N/A Jeremy Doku – N/A |

Ederson: Defended abysmally for the opening two goals, but ended with an assist for McAtee before injury saw him taken off. 5 Lewis: Hasn't played in a while and he did well, confident enough to take the ball under pressure and push City forward. 7 Dias: Too weak for the second Palace goal but got a grip after that and worked well as Palace got deeper. 6 Gvardiol: Some good late tackles to prevent Palace getting clean through, and looked happier once Mateta went off. 6 O'Reilly: Palace kept getting in behind him in the first half but he made some recoveries and did well for City's third before a great finish for the fifth 7 Gonzalez: Looked to get City moving and made some important interceptions, although a first-half booking was avoidable. 6 Kovacic: Turned the team out of some tricky spot and took his goal brilliantly to complete the comeback. 7 Gundogan: Another quietly influential performance, making the key pass for the third goal and helping the attack. 7 McAtee: Made a lot happen. Wasn't brilliant at making the most of that with some good chances missed, but he took his goal well. 7 De Bruyne: Started the comeback and never stopped, driving City on until the end. He's still got it. 8 Marmoush: So much energy, limbs whirling all over the pitch. It wasn't all for good use but he scored another important goal. 7 Substitutes Ortega (for Ederson, 71) A quiet 20 minutes with the game all but over. 6 Savinho (for Marmoush, 82) No time. 6 Bobb (for McAtee, 82) No time. 6 Doku (for De Bruyne, 88) Even less time Grealish (for Kovacic, 88) Even less time |

Ederson (6/10): Pathetic attempt at a punch cost his side for Palace's second goal but redeemed himself somewhat with a fabulous assist for McAtee. Taken off after 70 minutes with a groin issue. Rico Lewis (5/10): Was nowhere to be seen as Eze tapped home at the far post and it seemed he was under instruction not to get forward too much, understandably given Palace's threat on the counter. Might've given away a late penalty for a clumsy handball. Ruben Dias (3/10): A nightmare first half. Was sleeping as Palace punished City's high line for Eze's goal and then reacted too late to allow Richards the easy task of nodding home for 2-0. Josko Gvardiol (5/10): Slow to react to Sarr escaping free for the Eze opener and caught under the ball as Lacroix eased him out of the way for the second. Improved in the second half as Palace's threat faded. Nico O'Reilly (7/10): Was getting little help as Palace exploited his side of the pitch in the first half but played a part in Kovacic's goal and then scored his first in the Premier League with an assured finish. Nico Gonzalez (7/10): Hardly put a foot wrong after City's early struggles, keeping things ticking over and helping mop up defensively, too. Mateo Kovacic (8/10): Smacked home City's crucial third goal in an all-action performance that saw him cover a lot of ground over the 90 minutes. James McAtee (7/10): Wayward with his finishing at times but his cross for De Bruyne helped cause havoc for the equaliser and then he got his goal by coolly rounding Henderson. Ilkay Gundogan (7/10): He improved as City started to rack up the goals and he hardly gave the ball away all game. Will get the assist for Marmoush's goal, albeit he didn't know much about it. Kevin De Bruyne (9/10): Vintage De Bruyne. City needed their captain after their horrendous opening half hour and he stepped up and delivered. A goal, an assist and easily the best player on the pitch. Omar Marmoush (7/10): Denied by a big save from Henderson early doors but showed his predatory instincts in the box to smash home City's second goal. Should've added to his tally after De Bruyne put it on a plate for him. Subs & Manager Stefan Ortega (6/10): Had literally nothing to do after replacing Ederson for the final 20 minutes, save for a few passes out from the back. Oscar Bobb (N/A): A late replacement for Marmoush as he continues his comeback from an injury-ravaged season. Savinho (N/A): On for the final 10 minutes. Jeremy Doku (N/A): On for De Bruyne to allow the Belgian assist king the standing ovation his performance deserved. Jack Grealish (N/A): Replaced Kovacic for the final few minutes. Pep Guardiola (7/10): As much as he'll be furious at his side's slow start he'll have been hugely encouraged by the way they reacted, with City eventually getting their act together - likely after some choice words from their manager at the break. |

Ederson-6.5/10: I thought he could’ve been stronger in dealing with the cross for Crystal Palace’s second goal. His assist for McAtee’s goal was utterly superb. Rico Lewis-7/10: Linked the play well at right-back in a good performance from Lewis. Ruben Dias-7/10: Dias helped City settle after their poor start. Josko Gvardiol-7/10: Like Dias he helped his team regain control of the match after a poor start. Nico O’Reilly-8/10: He scored a goal, and he played well over the course of the full 90 minutes. He is developing into a fine player which he showed again today. Nico-7.5/10: Helped Manchester City take control of the game in midfield alongside Mateo Kovacic. A good performance from Nico. Mateo Kovacic-8/10: Scored a goal and played well alongside Nico in a no-nonsense display. One of the better performances from Kovacic this season. Ilkay Gundogan-7/10: Linked Manchester City’s play well in midfield in a good performance. James McAtee-7.5/10: Scored one but should have probably scored a hat trick. Put in a lively performance before he was substituted late in the second half. Kevin De Bruyne-10/10: An inspirational performance from De Bruyne. At 2-nil down, Manchester City needed someone to inspire them and it was De Bruyne. His goal got them back into the match and his efforts helped lift his team. Omar Marmoush-8/10: His movement and pressing was superb and he was rewarded with a goal. Perhaps he should have had another but he played a key role in City’s win. Substitutes Stefan Ortega-6/10: Made one crucial intervention after coming on for Ederson. Oscar Bobb-N/A: Not on long enough to mark. Savinho-N/A: Not on long enough to mark. Jack Grealish- N/A: Not on long enough to mark. Jeremy Doku-N/A: Not on long enough to mark. |

Ederson - 6 City’s goalkeeper was caught flapping nowhere near the ball as Richards headed in Palace’s second goal. A measly appeal for a free kick for some minor contact by Jean-Philippe Mateta was never going to absolve him. However, Ederson made up for the error with a fantastic pass to put James McAtee through on goal for City’s fourth. On a mixed day, Ederson then limped off injured. Rico Lewis - 7 Many of City’s best moments came from Rico Lewis’s driving runs from deep positions. The England star is finding his groove after a tough second full season in senior football. Ruben Dias - 5 Dias was weak and allowed Richards too much room to score. The Portuguese defender had little to do in the second half with Palace taking Mateta off at half-time. Josko Gvardiol - 5 Gvardiol was also caught underneath the ball for Palace’s second but most of the blame will go to Ederson and Dias. Nico O’Reilly - 8 The emergence of O’Reilly has been a highlight of City’s season. The converted left-back defended well and showed huge confidence to weave his way around a number of challenges. His side-footed finish to score City's fifth was a reward for a fine display. This is another case of the City academy producing a top-class talent. Nico Gonzalez - 6 Gonzalez kept City ticking in midfield and broke up many of Palace’s most threatening attacks. Mateo Kovacic - 8 A deserved goal capped an excellent performance by Kovacic. If De Bruyne was the headline act, Kovacic did an excellent job in a supporting role. James McAtee - 6 McAtee drifted in and out of the game. He missed a couple of excellent chances but benefitted from Ederson’s fantastic pass, with the midfielder rounding Dean Henderson before tapping into an empty net. Kevin De Bruyne - 9 This was a throwback to prime De Bruyne at his very best. He struck the post with Palace still leading 2-0 and that marked the moment the momentum of the game swung in City's favour. De Bruyne then thrashed a free kick in via Henderson's post. He created the most chances in the match with three. Ilkay Gundogan - 6 Gundogan played his part in a big win, featuring in a more advanced role than usual. Omar Marmoush - 7 Marmoush was guilty of missing a couple of key chances but did eventually score his goal by firing in the equaliser. The January signing has been an excellent addition and has stepped into Erling Haaland's shoes very well. Substitutes Stefan Ortega (for Ederson, '71) - 7 Ortega made an excellent intervention to deny Matheus Franca's cross from finding Ismaila Sarr. Oscar Bobb (for Marmoush, '82) - N/A It is positive to see the talented Bobb back from a horrible injury he suffered at the start of the season. Savinho (for McAtee, '82) - N/A Had little impact after replacing McAtee. Jack Grealish (for Kovacic, '88) - N/A City comfortably saw out the game after Grealish's introduction. Jeremy Doku (for De Bruyne, '88) - N/A Doku can thank the man he replaced for giving him an easy job in helping City see through a 5-2 win in the final few moments. Stefan Ortega Moreno – 7 Sometime shaky on the ball when playing out from the back, City’s deputy in goal did step up when called upon in the second half and was on hand to help launch a few counter attacks. Matheus Nunes – 7.5 Often criticised for his recklessness in possession in the first half of the season, Nunes has really come of age since the New Year and did very well on the right side of defence, providing a crucial assist for O’Reilly’s winner. Ruben Dias – 8 One of Dias’ best performances of the season as he thwarted everything that came his way and his alliance with Gvardiol in central defence in recent months Josko Gvardiol – 9 (POTM) Wow, just WOW. We’re running out of words for Josko Gvardiol. At 23 years of age and having played out of position for a large part of the season in a turbulent season, Gvardiol is my personal pick to take away City’s Player of the Season award with astounding performances after another despite his pre-match briefing. Defensively solid throughout and kept Everton at bay with a calm, composed, classy centre back display. Superb. Nico O’Reilly – 9 O’Reilly narrowly misses out on the Player of the Match despite scoring the winner – another crucial goal for the teenager, who has come of age and keeps playing well beyond his years. The sole reason City have an FA Cup semi-final to play and arguably the greatest silver lining in what has been a cloud of many challenges for City and Guardiola this season. Kevin De Bruyne – 7 De Bruyne has lost a few yards and was not quite at his usual, imperious self but he was once again Manchester City’s architect-in-chief and in the absence of Erling Haaland, he did take initiative by wanting the ball time and time again to engineer something out of nothing – and whilst he did not get in on the act, he was good in an important win on the road. Nico Gonzalez – 7 City’s man in the middle in the absence of Rodri wanted the ball as much as anyone in the first half and enjoyed a fine spell of possession as the visitors tried to slice open the stubborn hosts and despite a few nervy moments in his own half, Nico has impressed of late – as he once again did today. Ilkay Gundogan – 7.5 The oldest of Manchester City’s midfielders, Gundogan has fond memories of playing at Goodison Park and after a limited contribution to City’s attack in the first half, he set up Kovacic for the all-important second goal that sealed the three points. Bernardo Silva – 7.5 Often guilty of overplaying the underlapping pass to De Bruyne on the right and getting caught in possession, Silva was frustrating in the first half but he remains important as ever and one of Guardiola’s most trusted confidantes in an important period of the season. Omar Marmoush – 6 Marmoush had the chance to put City ahead a few times and whilst he could have done better when he was in on goal, it has to be appreciated chances came few and far between for the Egyptian. Still, even he’d agree he’s done much better previously in a blue shirt but nonetheless, another energetic and spirited performance from the January signing. Savinho – 6.5 One of Savinho’s more lacklustre displays in a blue shirt, largely because the young winger feeds off the presence of a certain Erling Braut Haaland in the box. He kept going one-on-one against his man and despite a hit-and-miss strike rate, the Brazilian was a potent source of danger and often the only outlet for City actually trying to create something in the first half. Substitutes Mateo Kovacic – 7.5 No words needed, a man in fine form in front of goal and what a finish to seal the win. Jeremy Doku – 7 City’s most underrated and under-appreciated player once again delivers the goods and energy off the bench to help the Blues to a third straight win in the Premier League. Manuel Akanji – N/A |

Ortega: His kicking was abysmal, but he made a decent reaction save from Branthwaite in the second half. 5 Nunes: Targeted defensively but stood up to the challenge impressively, one foul throw aside. Forced Pickford into a save as well and created the goal. 7 Dias: Some important touches to take the ball away from danger and he led the backline as well as supporting attacks. 7 Gvardiol: Kept his cool whenever Everton got past O'Reilly, taking the sting out of any threats before they could grow. 7 O'Reilly: Saw a lot of the ball and a lot of it was good. He needed Gvardiol to cover at times but another huge goal. 8 Gonzalez: Stepped back to help the defence, although it felt like he could have done more to push City up the pitch. 6 Gundogan: Saw more of the ball in the second half and tried to make things happen in attack, assisting Kovacic. 7 Silva: Remains a tidy player, but he couldn't make anything happen on the right wing and contributed to a build up that was too slow. 5 De Bruyne: His passing accuracy got worse as the game went on, failing to make the decisive breakthrough. 5 Savinho: Frustrated after not getting an early penalty (that never was) and contributed little after that. 5 Marmoush: Belatedly managed to get some touches of the ball in the last 20 minutes but wasn't in the game enough. 6 Substitutes Kovacic (for Gonzalez, 78) Like for like but he was more forward and got his goal. 7 Doku (for Savinho, 78) Looked to run when he got the ball. 6 Akanji (for De Bruyne, 88) Good that he's back |

Stefan Ortega (6/10): Threw his arms into the air to block Jarrad Branthwaite's close-range header then stopped Abdoulaye Doucoure at the near post. A smart throw out set Savinho free on the attack. Did not always transmit security from crosses though. Matheus Nunes (6/10): His low effort was one of City's few shots in the first half but this was a mostly scruffy performance from the midfielder-turned-right-back. His foul throw was indicative of his display, but all was forgiven when he played the match-winning pass to O'Reilly Ruben Dias (5/10): Given a few scares by Doucoure. Had the most touches of a City player in the first half but the most they amounted to were a couple of hopeful long balls that were easily cut out. Josko Gvardiol (5/10): Beaten in air by Tarkowski when he hit the post. Saw a lot of the ball but never caused any danger and it appears he is not as useful in the middle of defence as at left-back. Nico O'Reilly (8/10): Another encouraging display was rounded off by him grabbing the winner, showing the instinct of a natural No. 9. Nico Gonzalez (5/10): Gave City control in the middle albeit sterile control, rarely stretching Everton. Indeed, the breakthrough came when he had been taken off for Kovacic. Ilkay Gundogan (6/10): Tried to influence the play from deep but didn't take many risks until he teed up Kovacic for the second. It was a far cry from when he scored twice here in the 2023 title run-in. Bernardo Silva (6/10): A competent but largely uninspiring performance, failing to get in the usual danger areas. Kevin De Bruyne (5/10): Came close to breaking the deadlock with his thumping effort which hit O'Brien's face but it was the one moment of quality as he cut a frustrated figure, misplacing passes and struggling to create any spark. Omar Marmoush (4/10): Gave Everton very little to think about and rarely even got in or around the area. His only effort was when he was played in and scuffed his shot straight at Jordan Pickford. Savinho (6/10): His bursts of pace were City's main outlet but he was removed for Doku when the game was still goalless. Subs & Manager Jeremy Doku (6/10): Gave City a bit more penetration in behind. Mateo Kovacic (7/10): Sewed up the points with his powerful late strike, his second goal in as many games. Manuel Akanji (N/A): Made his comeback from injury in the 88th minute. Pep Guardiola (6/10): Must have been bored stiff watching that but his changes helped City earn three priceless points. This post has been edited by kjs86: Apr 20 2025, 11:50 AM |

Stefan Ortega-7.5/10: Made several crucial saves but his distribution was poor on occasions. But his job is to keep goals out and he did that superbly. Matheus Nunes-8/10: He set up O’Reilly’s opener and played well both defensively and going forward. He’s playing well at right-back and is making a case to be a solid squad member for City going forward. Ruben Dias-7/10: Did his job well at the back and was strong defensively when his team needed him. Josko Gvardiol-8.5/10: For me, Gvardiol was City’s man-of-the-match. He was brilliant at the back in one of his best performances for the season. Nico O’Reilly-8/10: Scored the opener and is showing that he belongs as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s side. He also defended well when required. Manchester City have found a serious player in O’Reilly. Nico- 7/10: He had his nervous moments in possession but overall he played well in midfield before being substituted. Ilkay Gundogan-7/10: He grew into the game as Manchester City took control of the game in the second half. His assist for Kovacic’s goal was brilliant. Kevin De Bruyne-7/10: He was Manchester City’s most dangerous attacking player for the majority of the game. He remains vital to City’s play as he displayed at Goodison Park. Savinho-6/10: Outside of De Bruyne Savinho was City’s biggest attacking threat. He was better in the second half than the first before being substituted. Bernardo Silva-5.5/10: He played a key role in City’s opening goal but over the 90 minutes he wasn’t at his best. Omar Marmoush-6.5/10: He grew into the game after a quiet first half. His movement became key to Manchester City’s attacking play as the game went on. Substitutes Mateo Kovacic-7/10: Scored the sealer and played well after coming on. Jeremy Doku-8/10: Doku put in a brilliant cameo performance. He ran the tired Everton defence ragged which is a credit to him. Manuel Akanji-N/A: Not on long enough to mark but it was good to see him back on the pitch. |

according to the information of Football Transfers’ Steve Kay, all of Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno could also depart the Etihad Stadium this summer, along with a number of other names.
Bernardo Silva’s future is once again in doubt and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki has been named as the considered replacement, while Florian Wirtz would ideally come into the team to take the mammoth role of Kevin De Bruyne. Elsewhere in midfield and Mateo Kovacic could be subject to an exit with Tottenham said to be interested, while it has now been remarkably suggested that Jeremy Doku could also find a way out of Manchester City amid concerns that opportunities will be limited by Omar Marmoush. The 22-year-old understandably wants to play regular football at the top of European football and holds a dream of playing in Spain, while the report claims that his representatives have sounded out the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad, with Chelsea also interested. The expectation is that despite a spend close to £200 million during the winter market, Manchester City officials still have a heavy cash-load available for reinvestment, while the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup and sell-on clauses in contracts across the game will also help. There is not believed to be any concern from within the Etihad Stadium over Financial FairPlay due to previous transfer windows coming and going without too much in the way of spend, while Manchester City have generated huge amounts from player sales over the years. As such, there is an expectation in some quarters that more than four new faces could arrive into the club, added to the arrival of Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, Nico Gonzalez, and Omar Marmoush from the January window. https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transf...wirtz-steve-kay |
