There has been an application ID mix up at Valve. If your Steam is logged in and your games are set to auto-update, Source-based games will break. I recommend staying offline until Valve rectifies this issue, or you may end up having to redownload the entire game.

Either that or disable updates. D2 is being recognized as L4D2. If you allow it to update, it'll delete your D2 files and start downloading the files for L4D2.

TL;DR don't update.

For the time being, you can run the game by running the dota executable directly from Windows Explorer. Just stay tuned to Reddit, they'll update once the problem is fixed.

Modest, but not true.

Valve paid out $400k to content creators in the first week of Jan 2014 alone. Content sales are so lucrative, that some modellers have left their day jobs to become full time content creators for video games. There's money in it if you're good enough, so keep working on your designs.

Solo matchmaking is an exercise in patience. It really teaches you that a good attitude makes a difference. I used to rage really hard, so believe me when I say that a change in attitude brings a lot of difference.

Remember that the one common factor in every game you've lost is YOU.

Pretty much. I've been having much more fun since they introduced ranked games. Now I just segregate my buddy list into ranked/unranked buddies. Lower expectations = no raging = less stress. laugh.gif

i kinda dislike people scolding people straight instead teaching people how to improve. well that situation is quite hard because there is no stunner in my team so i can't shoot arrow to do secondary stun.

ah well, leave it.

Positioning is key. Skillshot heroes (Pudge, PotM etc.) are best played from the fog. Avoid being seen by wards etc. You have a better chance of landing the hit if your enemy doesn't know you're there.

Win rate doesn't matter. MMR does. Even for regular games, you have a hidden MMR. If the MMR of that account is low, you can expect better players to be paired with you.
