Officially is 7 years. But if due to some legal issues, court/officials may request for documents or proof. There are on-going court cases that is requesting for 1980's income tax returns.
Therefore, my advise is not to throw away the docs, but keep forever.

Yes, whatever needs to pay or claim back, still need to pay or claim back. What I am saying above is for the penalty or fine only, whether can waive.
*
I think for business really needs to to keep, as for individual without business income, can keep for 7 years only.
Don't scare on this, I only keep for 6 years sweat.gif
Penalty usually can, unless it is big amount and they find out you do it with intention.

Regarding the hard copies document that need to keep for 7 years, I am a bit struggle with the receipt that I keep especially for book. Even the printed receipt by Popular, it will going to fade off, after 2 or 3 years, look back at the receipt, it is just a blank paper. Started last year, I hv started to photocopy the receipt and keep together, but I am not sure whether the photocopy can be accept by LHDN, since the original copy is already fade off. Anyone hv the same issue??
*
Mine faded within a year doh.gif
They won't really check on you, unless you are blacklisted.
Just make sure you don't simply claim or do mistakes. And if you are "clean", thy won't check your past records thumbup.gif
Last time I do made mistakes on claim wrongly. Slow talk with them and I have to pay that difference. But then for the next 2-3 years they may check your hard copy records which happened to me once on 3rd year.
BTW, they will randomly check only, not necessary you will be that lucky one laugh.gif

When buy book / magazine, I did not retain the receipts. Can I still claim of RM1000 relief?

Thanks

I've been doing this for 4 years, never have problem, books, sports equipment is used to "balance" my tax return, such that I pay them some extra or they pay me back some.
But make sure you don't claim maximum on them.

I really hope you won't call for the audit.

We don't encourage stoppy to do that.

Of course, the final decision is still on you.

LHDN is very strict this year.

I'm paying 5 numbers tax, so should not be any problem.

Well, you can always don't follow.
Comparing to those who do business that own bungalows and luxury cars but never pay a single cent, mine are nothing basically.

If I have an insurance policy that is categorized as Life/Medical, can I split it to claim as follows:
60% claim as medical policy.
40% claim as life policy?

Thanks!
*
Your insurance policy should stated clearly already, right?
Anyway, you can always try your luck on this.
Get caught, you need to pay the difference.

Guys, i have paid my tax using atm machine. My Payment code is 084 but under the no. Ansuran, I have selected not applicable on atm, where it shows 004.

Reading back the threads I found that no.ansuran shall be filled in as 99 for without installment.

But my maybank slip has shown none installment number.

Does anyone knows what's the impact on filling in wrong installment no.? What does installment code 004 means?

FYI I have already paid full amount although the installment code is wrong.

Please assist me.

Let say i got 10k which i need to pay to LHDN

Anybody know what is the late payment charges if I pay after the dateline 30th April 2014.

Thanks
*
You still have the absolute grace period of 15 days. Slow talk to them and you no need to pay that 10%. If can't afford pay 1 time, can pay installment. But once under installment payment, you must make sure you pay it on time.

Got a question for tax expert here. For income earner who is taxed at 26%, would u suggest the below move:

"An employee can arrange for his/her employer to contribute 19% to EPF by lowering his/her salary. For example,

Original salary RM10,000 a month, Employer’s EPF (12%) RM1,200.
Cost of hiring to employer = RM10,000 + RM1,200 = RM11,200

The employee can ask his/her employer to consider paying less basic salary but increase the employer's contribution to EPF as follows :-

Adjusted salary RM9,412 a month, Employer’s EPF (19%) RM1,788
Cost of hiring to employer = RM9,412 + RM1,788 = RM11,200

So there is no difference to the employer, but for the employee, his/her taxable income is RM588 (RM10,000 – RM9,412) less a month, which is RM7,056 a year. If his/her tax bracket is at 27%, the tax saving would be RM1,905.12 a year !"

Pick this up from a blogger site. Since this is park under employer epf contribution, my take is no impact on the employee 6k rebate? What would be other Pros and Cons? Is their any max limit for employer contribution to epf? How about bonus (getting less since lower basic) and future prospect if making career move?

Thanks for all input given!  tongue.gif  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

If you are paying for 26% tax, your own EPF contribution already > rm6000 a year.
You may ask your HR to do this but i doubt they will approve such request as it will affect other calculation also.

usually they need 1 month to refund, provided you submit early. I submitted on March and get refund on beginning April.
If you submit on mid April or end April, it will take longer.

What are you guys fussing about?

It could take up to 30 WORKING days to get the refund.

If you want the refund to arrive at your account early, you should have submitted as early as in March 2014.

My friend submitted on 1st week of March. 3rd week got refund already thumbup.gif

For the RM3000 rebate for PC purchase thing, must I buy the PC from a vendor such as Dell/HP or can buy parts and assemble or the receipt must show as one unit and not individual parts?
*
As long as it is a full set PC you can claim.

I'm aware of that option but there're some personal reasons behind of requesting a cheque.

Then is time for you to settle that problem and put the bank account in.
BNM may charge higher cheque's price next year.

Recently purchased a phone casing from the US and using FedEx Courier services. The product cost roughly Rm 350 and I was surprised that when it reaches Malaysia Kastam, it has been then further taxes together with duty fees in the amount of RM 240.

So, i am here to ask is there any possible ways for me to get back the money through rebate? How about i declare it as personal use and then got the rebate from the LHDN later on?

Any opinions and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. smile.gif Thank you.

You can appeal. But that's almost 100% of tax. Something wrong already.

FedEx provided this statement

FedEx: AWB#********** has been cleared with duty and tax RM235.68 + RM5.00 (FCZ CHARGES) = RM 240.68. For assistance on delivery and shipment movement status, kindly contact our customer service center at 1-800-88-6363. Thank you for shipping with FedEx.

Gonna do that tomorrow. Hopefully everything can be fine soon.

After checked with the Malaysia tax and duty fees, my product the most will only kena 10% sales tax which is RM 39.00. Clearly there was an error made by FedEx or Kastam

Highest tax rate are about 30% from postage and item's price.

I see. May I know how you deduced that highest tax rate are about 30%? hmm...

This website stated that Malaysia only imply 10% service tax.
http://www.dutycalculator.com/hs-code-duty...2.39.0090/7353/

While, in the kastam's website. Under the 420239900 of Old HLS (you can put the number into the search bar at the right to search) It also stated only got 10% sale tax.
