Doesn't matter you like it or hate it, You still have to live with it. I think it's unavoidable especially when you working in medium or large company.

Haiz, because of politics, I have to wear the same style of clothing with my colleagues, and because of politics, i need to stay back late just because they told me to. Anyway I not really like to be involved in politics, but what can i do? I think for now I must gain as much experience as i could then after this i prefer to do free lance which i think wont have much problem about politics among colleagues...

In order to enjoy myself inside the office, i prefer to play a little bit of politics inside the office...biggrin.gif

So whenever i make any mistakes or anything i just smile a bit and it all should be forgiven / forgotten tongue.gif

Actually, smiling is the most dangerous form of office politics. It's a necessary evil.

How genuine is a smile, you wouldn't know, would you?

How sincere is your colleague, you can't tell if he's the one who stabbed you.

Watch your enemies, but be even more careful of those who call themselves 'friends'

Hmmm for me I dont trust anyone at my work place and I never treated them as friend. I only treat them as my work colleague. I'm a kind of person that dont like to mix my work life with my personal life.

Office politics is unavoidable especially in big organizations. If you have ambitions to climb up the corporate ladder you have to excel in office politics. You need to have allies and support to climb up.

In a business organization, be it small Sdn Bhd or multinational company, everyone inside (actually to be more apt, most) is working for money, and money alone. Everyone is struggling to protect their own interests, to compete for promotion either morally or unscrupulously for more power and higher status, and with the ultimate goal, to get more money income.

Why this is so? Because everybody have to survive, have families to feed, have to give their children better education, have to pay high medical expenses for their elderly parents and ultimately to withstand the rediculously increasing and high living cost. It is human nature that politics are everywhere. It is the same as the wild nature out there.

in big GLC... from what I experienced, there are two type of politics
1. kiss up politics... everybody have to kiss up to the big guy, if he say jump, you can only ask how high?..... but problem starts when even the secretary starts to have the authority to tell you to jump!
2. camp politics.... where there are several camps within the office with conflicting interest/goal... this one is mati liao! you are either with one camp or you'll be assumed to be on the other. nobody likes a 'neutral'... too unpredictable. rclxub.gif

the hardest part is if one camp lose in the powerplay, the whole heirarchy will have to face the broom, pressured out or coldstoraged. and in the reshuffle, most of the time, even the neutrals will be sweep out together with the garbage.

its a hard life, most ppl, just for the sake of survival, had to play both sides against the middle.... now that's office politics.

thank god i'm behind all that now. rclxm9.gif

I cried once when I first joined me current company, all because of those political 'b****es. But now I 'established' my own gang to counter-back, and they don't dare to bully me now. Another way for you to counter office politics is to be an absolute 'lone ranger' who works for work. There's 2 colleagues who practice that and nobody even bother to gossip about them, cause there's nothing to gossip!

Office politics. Damn hate it. But the simple rule seems to be establishing ties with the important people without playing politics, but only through real work and sweat- or at least that's what I observed.

ie. Someone b****es about you in front of your supervisor/boss. Meanwhile you prove the person wrong to your supervisor/boss by your performance review and you don't b**** back (act as though you didn't know you got b****ed). In the end of the day, you're the clean and performing dude and he's the politician. You win.

Incorrect, I worked in a multinational manufacturing plant before. Because of the manufacturing nature of the company, people are very overloaded, and unable to make profits, people started to be very defensive and bureaucratic.

If you have experienced on how aggressive and dangerous bureaucratic politics are, you will shiver.

right after i quit from the big GLC and right before I started on my own, i joined a small growing comapny. I was invited to help the owner to transform and restructure his growing business from a 3-man operation to cater to the needs of his newly won multimillion RM contracts.

it started so small that they never had their accounts audited, even after 5 yrs of operation, never paid EPF nor SOCSO and so many other no-nos.

wehn i joined we started to create organisation chart, identify needs and create depts and start to hire ppl (it have 60+ staff now). but every step of the way u can see office politics were in play, at every turn u see kaki kipas, kaki ampu, and even backstabbers active and aggressively pitcing thier lies and maneuvering around, building camps and killing off other camps.... it was a dirty playing field...

my point is... it doesnt have to be a big company, the game is always being played. question is are u playing them or is thegame playing u?

well, u either go with da flow, or u go against the flow. stuck in d middle of it is even worst. being a lone ranger? well, upto u. anyway, we're there for the $$$, not for the biatches. so chill. suck it up or just leave.

ya..in job market, people keep knowledge becos they wanted to protect their own bowl. v cant realli blame or acquire people to help us, but i think got to acquire urself to figure out the solution, they deserve not to share, if they share, this will be a bonus!

but i know the best way to learn is to teach and share, and the more you share, the more u gains. but i dunno whether this theory can be use in job market or not. the world is jz so practical and realistic.

the only solution for this = " be the boss"
