I never use Shimano before.

I've been using Abu Garcia products since I was like 10 years old.

Have you tried Daiwa baitcaster ? I saw most of their latest baitcaster products requires no thumbing to the spool when making a cast. Check this video out. Fast forward at 1:12. Habis tali !  shocking.gif

*
Thumbless cast is also achievable with DC reel as long correct braking is applied. Just difficult to set to get long cast distance. Maybe i am not pro enough.

As for daiwa BC, the technology seem to be steps ahead of shimano. And they also own many design patents especially for BC reels.

I am not a hardcore caster where some of them even own more than 10 reels just for casting. Just enjoy fishing occasionally thus 1 reel is enough for me. And i love the zingggg sound when cast a DC reel.

Hi,
where I buy fishing equipment
(beginner here)

I found cheaper on at Decathlon, damansara. but dont know how the quality
*
I think decathlon didnt bring any commercial brand fishing gear. More to simple fishing set and accesories. Better head to any other tackle shop nearby. If in Kl can try jalan pudu shop beside the balai bomba. Forgot the name already but price there is competitive

QUOTE(Cicero @ Nov 27 2017, 12:25 PM)
Went to Tanjung Harapan yesterday. Found a fishing jetty and the jetty itself sold live prawns etc as bait. RM7 per rod. Jetty condition looks kinda scary with no guardrails. There are shelters all along the 30m jetty. Tide was high and beginning to subside around 10am when I got there. About 5 anglers trying their luck.

Then came the rain around 3pm. Shelters were quite inadequate to protect us from the rain. Basah kuyup yo. So, hows the fishing there? Pathetic. I was there for 10 hours. I didn't get anything nor did anyone else. Won't be going there again.
*
Jetty fishing is purely luck. Just many small fishes play2 took bait. Hardly to hook any big fishes. More to lepak2 with friends is ok. Just dont go there with any high hope

any good recommended set joran with reel ,, below RM100 ?

just for fun only

Wahh this is hard. Usually for below 100 just go to shop try mix and match. Reel can get shimano fx around 50-70

Oh yes, my budget less than Rm400....That is the thing..I have no fish spesis in mind. Any fish will do for me....I want an all rounder gear..salt and fresh water...No intention to have so many rods...
Btw where is young tackle?
*
Well since u didnt mention any deep water fishing then maybe spinning reel with size 3000 should be fine with 10-20lb rod spec pair with 20-30lb braid line. Can do bottom and also casting. As you gain more experience and given you still stick to this hobby, you will realize that you are going to need different fishing set for different fishing purpose. Welcome to the club.

QUOTE(HoyHoySum @ Jan 1 2018, 12:41 AM)
Thank you, what will be the length of rod for the 10-20lbs rod? With this specs I have, next will be what brand should I look for? I need some reliable quality and most of all the lines won't get jammed with poor reels....Advice is appreciated.

Happy New Year guys and gals and the betweens...
*
Happy new year.

The length can varies between 5'6" to 7' whichever suits you. If you plan on boat fishing later, don't get the longest one. 6' and below is OK. As for rods there are different construction such as 1 piece (one piece rod), 2 piece (middle joint or butt joint) and so on. 1 piece will provide good rod strength due to one piece construction but it is not convenient to carry. 2 pieces seem to be more practical to use.

There are many brand out there. Me personally prefer to use Shimano reels for their proven durability. Never had any problem with any reels I owned. There are many models within any budget range. Try to find the one without anti reverse switch because this is usually the point where water can easily get inside. And just remember no matter how expensive your reel is, it will rust and degrade if there are no proper maintenance done especially after each salt water trip. Learn to take good care of your fishing gears and they will take care of you. Btw line got jammed? I think it is more to spool got jammed. Usually water got inside the reel and wear down the grease. Rust bearing and bent shaft also can caused this.

As for rods, I don't have any special brand in mind. As long as it serve its purpose and feels good in hand then it should be fine.

Happy hunting!!

I rarely buy stuff online. If you have FB, there are many fishing group over there. You can find some great deal.
Or based on my own experience you can try find Sim Lim Fishing in FB. I bought my set once from them. Fast delivery and great services.

fishing at Tuas Yan got some pertua

mind share what gear and bait/lure using ?
*
These were caught using balloon drifting (life bait from apollo). There were times where white feather lures are effective. Just need to cast fast enough using mono line (12/15lbs) with steel wire short leader. Casting with dead kembong are also effective at certain spot. Due to many techniques available, you’ll need to try them at every parked tuas and find the most effective one.

Gears used were mostly spinning reel size 3000/4000 with ratio 6.0 and above. Tenggiri over there are very sensitive to coloured braided so recommended to spool with full mono line.

Coming back into fishing after many years. Last I fished was about 15 years ago. I have lots to learn because my dad only taught me how to fish but not what kind of rods, reels, baits and all the other basics.

Anyone got some nice spot for lakes/ponds or streams? Prefer not those pay to fish ponds.
*
You can try cyber lake beside mex highway. My friend landed giant catfisfh, baung, haruan before. Many bangla also jala giant talapia over there.
