Hi all, i'm at day 2 with my mac and was reading mac book pro essentials ebook. It says that personal hotspot can only be used with iOS 8. Any other way for iOS 7 to allow sharing? Does it also mean that it won't accept Wifi signal from an android device?

QUOTE(dannykhoo17 @ Oct 25 2015, 02:29 AM) The ebook that i was reading says that iOS 8 (iphone)and above only can be used as a hotspot for MBPr. Normal Wifi i can connect, i meant if i use my MBPr with iOS7 device or an Android device as a hotspot. This post has been edited by silverwave: Oct 25 2015, 02:30 PM |

Hi, let's say if i am not moving around much with the laptop, should i use the power outlet? I've not used laptop for quite a while so i'm curious if i should use the battery until it is low and charge it. If i use it with power all the while, will it increase the cycle count of the battery or reduce its lifespan?

QUOTE(dino89 @ Oct 27 2015, 08:10 AM) I nvr even move my laptop anywhere, sit on the table 24/7. Now i also wonder why i bothered to get a laptop, should have gotten a desktop instead I prefer a desktop anytime if i'm not on the move.Anyways i would use the battery till 10% then start charging it via the power outlet I plugged in the charger at 3% (going for the second count now) Just wondering, is there any option to disable the battery from being used while i'm using the power outlet? I removed the battery from my older laptop 7 years ago if it i'm not on the move and it is on my table. The battery could last longer |

QUOTE(Mac Man @ LYF @ Oct 27 2015, 10:01 PM) Correcting you . Thanks for the links and correct me if i am wrong from what I've gathered.http://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/ http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/1...is-fully-charge https://www.quora.com/Is-it-recommended-to-...s-fully-charged https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2689315?tstart=0 It's ok to leave it plugged and the battery should be discharged at least once a month. The 1 full cycle is only counted if i use it fully (a full 100%). If i use 50% today and charge till 100%, the cycle remains. If i use another 50% tomorrow then it is 1 cycle. The part i did not quite understand is the charging part when the battery is around 94%. Does it mean that i i leave it plugged till 100%, it will take around 6% x 16-17 rounds before it is counted as 1 cycle? |

QUOTE(jumpstat @ Oct 29 2015, 08:53 AM) I have downloaded the app 'battery health' and it is free to download and use. Thanks, jumpstat. I will download it tonight. There are some interesting advice within the app and it tells you how to calibrate the battery upon a specific period. The app also provides details and health of the battery which is more information than the standard app that comes with the mac. Try it out. |

Hi, i just noticed that my 2 weeks old laptop has a minor uneven coat inside the Magsafe 2 charging point (right below the 5 points). I can't seem to put my finger in to touch but i used a name card to feel and it seemed normal. I'm just wondering if the Magsafe charger caused it? Looks more like a manufacture issue to me. It looks something like the picture below but it's just a small tiny part.

QUOTE(jumpstat @ Nov 3 2015, 12:26 PM) mine also shows wear all around the charging pot which is mainly due to the action of the magnetic head that couples to the port. As far as I am concern the pins are not deformed and its charging then, its good to go. I see, so does it mean that we will be seeing more in the future? I've only charged it twice.Just wanted to point that the magsafe charger do not have any grounding, so sometimes can get leakage around the casing.... About the grounding, i thought i felt a slight sensation on the palm rest when using the laptop while being charged. |

QUOTE(jumpstat @ Nov 3 2015, 02:26 PM) More or less like in your picture plus the corners where the adapter slides to meet the pins. Can't be helped as the materials is anodised aluminium which is kinda soft for both adapter and notebook. I know, it's new and i was taking care of it like a precious baby. Don't worry, as your notebook age and builds character, you will no longer baby it like when just bought. Will upload the actual picture tonight. |

Hi all, back with more updates regarding this mark that i posted a couple of weeks back.
I called Mac City about it and they asked me whether there's any issue with the charging, i said no as i've only charged it twice. They asked me to bring it in since i asked them if it's a leak from inside the charging point. I'm not sure if it was there when i got it or it happened over time after using though I'm sure i did not do it. What do you guys think? Is it urgent to get it checked or go when i have other issues in the future? From the picture below, it looks different under different lighting conditons. QUOTE(jumpstat @ Nov 16 2015, 10:33 AM) IMO, its not happening at the contacts. If it was at the contacts, then I would want it to be rectified. As is, it looks like a blemish on the surface of the aluminium with its coating. As it is an aluminium unibody, there shouldn't be any issues with rusting. So having said that, I might just let it fly till there is other issues in the future. That's what i thought too, thanks for the feedback. Just curious though, do you think MacCity will touch up the layer or change the whole side frame when i take it in? Initially i was worried they will need to open it up and it might induce scratches on other parts of the surface. This post has been edited by silverwave: Nov 16 2015, 10:33 PM |

QUOTE(jumpstat @ Nov 17 2015, 07:49 AM) I have no idea, but most probably they would do a touch up as it is so small area and secluded. Like I said, since it is not affecting the laptop in any way, just let it be. But then again, we have paid top dollar for perfection, right? Exactly, honestly i thought Mac laptops go thought stringent quality checks and i would not except to find one. May be when i pass by 1U, i'll just let them have a look since i've already emailed them the picture. No rush. |
